30. Humane

Hi everyone! I'm going to be participating in NaNoWriMo so I'll be putting Enamored on hold until November 30th when NaNoWriMo finishes. I'll definitely finish Enamored because I love writing this book :) Thank you so much for all your support for my book! I hope you guys give Dulcet Oblivion a read once I post the first chapter tomorrow!

Song: Still Falling For You x Ellie Goulding

"Boo!" Daemon cried, his fingers curled in an attempt to scare me.

"Nice try but I wasn't scared at all." I laughed at his pathetic ways of trying to scare me.

"Oh how I miss those old days of you fearing me." he sighed theatrically, tilting his head back slightly.

I was waiting for my school counselor to show up after school when Daemon appeared, leaving a trail of black smoke behind him.

It's been a month since Angelo and I broke up. It was awkward at first because we had the same group of friends but slowly, I noticed, he hasn't hung out with any of us in awhile. I was surprised that I even thought him after a month since I was occupied with getting my grades up and finishing up my college applications.

Daemon had both his hands clasped behind him until I heard a crinkle of plastic and a familiar sweet scent that wafted in the air.

He extended his arm to hand me a dozen of exquisite blue roses. I remembered that he picked these flowers from the Empyrean fields.

"What are these for?" I asked him as I accepted the roses and taking a sniff of their sweet scent.

He simply shrugged, his soft tousled hair falling over his azure eyes.

"Just because."

"Oh, I see." I muttered as a sinking feeling overwhelmed me. My birthday is coming up in less than a month. Does he remember? Would he revive the game again?

I shook my head. Daemon wouldn't do that to me. I judged him harshly the first time and he has changed a lot for me over the course of the month. He couldn't possibly hurt me again. He promised he wouldn't.

"What's wrong?" he asked me.

I shook my head. "Nothing." I faked a smile.

I knew he noticed but yet he didn't say anything. I was glad he didn't.

As the school counselor barged into the room disgruntled, Daemon vanished in a puff of smoke that dissipated as quick as the blink of an eye.

"Ms. Beaumont, I apologize for being late." she said in between breaths.

"It's no problem, Ma'am." I smiled knowing I'll be able to plan what my future will be for the next for years with anything preventing me from it.

I hope.

After I left the counselor's office, my friends cornered me at my locker.

"Celeste." Brittany said grimly.

"What's up girl?" I greeted her warmly while hugging her stoic figure.

"You need to stop seeing Daemon."

I stopped and chose my words carefully before answering.

"Why?"

Brittany sighed while Daniel and Ted looked awkward behind her.

"Have you forgotten what he did to all of us?" she asked me. "Have you forgotten how we lost Summer because of him?"

At the mention of Summer, my throat tightened.

"Of course I remember." I gritted my teeth.

"Daemon hasn't done anything to hurt us. He kept his promise of stopping the game—"

"Yeah because Medio Terrae was coming after us!" Brittany replied raising her voice. "But now that they haven't bothered us in the past month means that Daemon's going to resume the game and the next person that's going to play next is—" she paused before a tear fell from her eye.

Then I understood.

It was me that's next to play Daemon's game.

"He's changed." I found myself saying.

My best friend took a step back, shocked on what just came from my mouth.

"I can't believe you." she said, disappointment obvious in her tone.

"Remember that in just less than a month, you have to choose on whose side you're going to be on."

Brittany turned her back to me and motioned for Ted and Daniel to do the same.

"And I hope you choose the right one."

And with that, she sauntered her way out of the hallway, her dark curled locks bouncing behind her.

Of course I haven't forgotten. In just less than a month, I have to choose between Daemon and Angelo.

Which man should I choose? The choice was evident but choosing one over the other would either betray one of them or I would be doing the opposite of what I feel.

I clutched the rose Daemon gave me and took another sniff before leaning against the beige lockers. I was exhausted from all the college applications and scholarships I applied for that I'd rather just stay in bed and sleep.

It was a nightmare to even think that Daemon hasn't changed. It was frightening to even wonder whether he's only being kind to me only to lure me to his trap.

I shook my head to prevent myself from thinking this way. I can't think this way. I don't want to because I already have a better perception of him as a person rather than what he really is; a demon.

"I hope you choose me." a silvery voice murmured against my neck causing me to jump.

Daemon's soft lips grazed the skin on my neck causing the hairs on the back of my neck to rise. I turned to face him, my face burning and my neck tingling from where he placed his lips.

"You're doing it again." I chastised him.

"What do you mean?" he asked me innocently.

"You know what."

He tucked the hair behind my ear, his strong chilled fingers grazing my cheek gently. I wanted to ask him if he was going to have me play the game again. I remained silent instead.

"Did you like the roses?" he asked me, switching the topic of the conversation.

"Of course I did." I replied, clutching them gingerly.

Daemon's lips curved into a smile.

"I'm glad. I wish I could give you regular roses like an average man, but whenever I touch them, they would die by my hands." he said looking down.

"They're beautiful and I love them." I beamed at him. He touched my cheek softly.

"How I wished to be human." he murmured to himself. It was so soft that I could barely hear his words.

"What's wrong?" I asked him. Something about him was different. Daemon was never like this; serious and somber.

"Today was the day I was supposed to be reborn as a human." he replied.

I took a step back. "What do you mean?" Daemon as a human? How does that even happen?

Daemon gazed into my eyes, sadness evident in his azure eyes.

"I wanted to be human so I could love you wholly, the way you deserved to be loved."
