"I'm not afraid of death; I just don't want to be there when it happens."

― Woody Allen

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"Wake up, Celeste."

A hot breath blowing against my ear woke me from my dreamless sleep. The stranger shook my arm, rousing my groggy mind from its unfocused state.

"Five more minutes, Mom." I groaned, thinking it was my mother waking me up for school.

"Celeste, you need to wake up now! We're back in the Nether Realm!" The high pitched voice said with urgency.

My eyes snapped open when I heard the two words that I've been dreading. I sat up from the cold hard floor I realized I was laying on and scanned my surroundings. I was in the middle of a never ending road with cars from every decade abandoned on the side. Uncertainty and fear settled in my stomach because I knew that this place is where the game would happen.

Ted and Daniel had just woke up and Brittany was staring at me with worry in her eyes.

"Are you okay?" she asked.

I nodded. "Where's Angelo?" I asked her.

Brittany's gaze fell to the ground and she shifted uncomfortably before pointing her finger to one person curled up and shifting himself back and forth.

Angelo was hyperventilating and was curled in a ball. His once tanned skin looked bluish and his lips were cracked from dehydration. Angelo's alabaster wings fluttered behind him when I walked closer towards him. His bloodshot eyes looked at me with shame.

"I-I n-never meant for you to see me like this. I came to protect you," he wheezed. "but I could barely stand up."

I realized he didn't want me to see him weak and powerless. His pride and responsibility to protect me caused him to be ashamed that I saw my hero in his frail state.

"Oh Angelo," I sighed hugging him tightly, "I'll always love you no matter what."

"Who's turn is it to play the game?" I heard Brittany ask behind me.

Pulling away from Angelo, I answered. "Since we're going in order of who ate the apples first, it's Ted's turn."

"Crap." Ted muttered.

"That really sucks man." Daniel added.

"Okay, well um..." Ted began. "The thing I'm most afraid of is turning into a teddy bear."

Everyone was silent after his confession. Except Brittany, she started laughing her head off.

"You're afraid of turning into a cuddly little bear? No wonder why a lot of people call you Teddy Bear."

Ted's face turned a bright red from Brittany's teasing. I didn't understand why Ted would be so afraid of turning into a harmless Teddy Bear. He started scratching a spot on his arm while his head was down in shame.

Soon, Ted began to scratch his entire body as if he was allergic to something. Looking closely, something began to grow and spread on his skin. It was brown and curly and I took a step back when I knew what it was growing on Ted; fur.

"Oh sh*t!" everyone said.

Brittany tried to pull and tug the fur that was growing on Ted. However, it brought more pain to him as he let out a distressful sound when Brittany successfully pulled the fur from his skin only for it to grow up. The pain was too much that Ted clawed me in the face and let out a loud howl.

I fell on my side while I heard Angelo calling out my name weakly. I felt something warm and liquid dripping from my face. Swiping it away from my skin, my fingers were soon stained with blood.

He's turning into a bear at a fast rate that I didn't know what to do.

"Celeste help me!!!" he begged me.

I was panicking but I forced myself to focus and began to think of the ways that we used to win the game. Brittany and Daniel calmed themselves and faced their fear headfirst which caused us to win the level of the game. I knew what I needed to do.

"Ted, look at me." I ordered my voice stone cold.

His shifting orbs focused on mine, his eyes were filled with panic.

"You need to calm down." I said my voice loud so he can focus on what I'm saying. "Take a deep breath with me and exhale with me."

Ted did as he was told until he was finally calm. His appearance slowly returned to its previous state but not quite yet.

"I'm scared, Celeste." he admitted.

Daniel, Brittany, and Angelo huddled closer to Ted. "You need to face this fear yourself, Ted." Daniel said.

"O-okay." Ted stammered before he took another deep breath to calm himself down. Slowly but surely, the fur disappeared and crumbled to ashes.

Everybody sighed in relief and rejoiced with Ted as he jumped up and down because he has overcome his fear. Everybody but Angelo.

I heard a loud thud next to me and I saw Angelo gasping for air and his skin turning into a dark blue. There's only one reason why he's being like this; he's turning into a demon.

"Guys! We need to get out of here, Angelo's hurt!" I yelled.

Ted and Daniel nodded and placed each of Angelo's arms around their shoulders in order to help him walk.

"Where are we going next?" Brittany asked. Beyond the never ending road we were in, was the dark forest. There was nowhere to go.

"Shortcut." Angelo wheezed as he pointed to me.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Your blood."

"What do I do with it?" I asked him.

I swiped some of the blood on my cheek and Angelo instructed me to draw a C on the ground with two dots side to side. I was confused on what he was trying to have me do but I still obeyed.

My blood began to shine brightly causing me and my friends to step back before it manifested into a portal that leads to Chinvat, the place between the Nether Realm and Earth.

All of us hesitated until I saw a crowd of ghosts coming closer to us.

"The forbidden fruit!" They hissed. "Mine!"

I pushed everyone into the portal and the feeling of falling tickled my stomach before I crashed into the cold hard floor.

Groaning I stood up and asked everyone how they're doing.

"We're all good!" they answered.

I walked towards Angelo were he laid on his stomach. His breathing had stabilized and the bluish tint on his skin had disappeared.

"Angelo?" I touched his bare arm. He jolted at my touch before he opened his eyes.

"Celeste," he smiled in relief causing me to hug him tightly.

"I'm so glad you're okay," I admitted as tears welled up in my eyes.

"Of course, I don't want to leave my girlfriend alone by herself." he joked before his tone changed. "Thank you for saving me." he said before bringing his lips closer to him.

I braced myself for the kiss to come until Brittany interrupted our moment.

"Okay, lovebirds! You guys can get a room after we get the hell out of here!"

Both of us laughed at her tone before helping each other stand up. Ted, Daniel, and Brittany literally sprinted to the door that leads us back to Earth.

"Screw this, I'm getting the hell out of here." Daniel said as he opened the door wide open and entered.

I was relieved that we won another level of the game. After Ted, I knew I was next to play and it scared me. Losing wasn't an option. If I lose, I'll have to stay with Daemon in the Nether Realm and doom my friends and family's souls to him. Before I entered the door that leads to Earth, I looked behind me in search of my father's imprisoned soul. To my disappointment, I couldn't find him.

The hairs on the back of my neck stood when my gaze reached Daemon's tall figure. His lips turned up slightly when I saw my father's soul standing behind him. Although I could barely hear the words he mouthed to me, I knew what he meant.

"Winner takes all."
