"Death ends a life, not a relationship." ~Mitch Albom
I immediately sat up from my laying position. The once calm blue sky above me burned in fury. This must be another part of the Nether Realm, I thought. The titan droplets hissed as it stung my skin. I stood up and looked at my surroundings. I was in a garden outside an archaic Victorian mansion in what seems to be the in the middle of nowhere.
I ran towards the door of the beautiful Victorian mansion to seek shelter from the stinging drops of titan rain. Twisting the golden knob, I heaved the door open with my shoulder and went inside. My clothes smelled like burning paper that I immediately took off the jacket I was wearing.
I needed to find Angelo, Celeste, Brittany, Ted, and Daniel. I couldn't just be here in this nightmare all alone. As I explored the inside of this Victorian mansion, some familiarities began to arise from the rooms I explored in. I ended up in the same parlor me and my friends first woke up together in Daemon's Nether Realm. When I strode my way outside of this parlor, I came across the same hallway me and the rest of the group were running from ghosts.
What nightmare would me and my friends face? It's Summer's turn, so it's possible that her darkest fear wouldn't be as horrifying like Daniel and Brittany's fear.
I hope.
Daemon leaned against the wall, his foot crossed over the other casually. The different types of lighting shone made him more demonic than the last time I saw him. He still wore clothes that has him blend in with the darkness and this time, his azure eyes had a predatory glint to them.
"Well look who the cat dragged in." he drawled.
"More like dragged by the acidic rain outside. Don't you have anything to wear besides black?" I growled.
Daemon laughed at my half as*ed insult and pushed himself off the wall behind him and placed both of his hands on the opposite sides of my head. My heart thundered against my chest because of the suspicion on what he'll do next.
"I found the answer to the riddle." I blurted out.
Daemon tilted his head playfully. "Oh did you really?"
I nodded and told him the answer. "It's love isn't it? What a great way to confuse me with that riddle." I smirked, thinking I got the best of Daemon.
"Congratulations," he uttered smoothly, "but you haven't exactly given me the answer yet."
My face dropped in shock causing him to grin widely.
"What do you mean? Love is the answer!" I exclaimed.
"You didn't think it would be so easy did you?" he mocked.
"The answer is love, but you haven't given your love to me." Daemon said as he snapped his fingers.
We were in a different place now. I was in a bedroom to be exact. He moved closer to me, his eyes dark with lust. "Surrender to me," he whispered close to my ear, "I'll make this a night you will never forget." Daemon pulled me closer to his body, his hand at the small of my back.
My eyes widened when I finally realized what he meant. This riddle was never meant to help me and my friends with the game, it was only to help Daemon get what he wanted from me.
I let the rage to flood through me as I feel the hot tide in my evens. Without thinking, I pushed him away from me and struck out at his face, my nails raking his cheek.
His head snapped to the side and when he finally focused his gaze on me, his chiseled face morphed into something I know will haunt me forever.
"You will regret this." he growled.
One blink and Daemon and I were back at the hallway. His cold demeanor continued as he said his last words with a smirk before he disappeared. "Good luck with the game."
I was all alone again until a voice called out my name.
"Celeste! Celeste" a high pitched voice called out.
"Who's there?" I asked, my voice hoarse.
"It's me! Summer!"
She emerged from the shadows from the other side of the hallway. Something about her didn't seem right. Summer still had the same gorgeous golden locks and wide innocent blue eyes and hopeful smile, yet my gut is telling me not to trust her. After what we've all been through with Daemon, one can never know his next game.
She saw me hesitate and her smile fell from her face.
"What's wrong?" she asked me.
"How do I know it's really you?" I responded with a hint of suspicion.
She let out a sigh of unbelief.
"I can't believe you, I'm your best friend!"
"Tell me something that only my best friend would know." I challenged.
Summer sighed. "You have a huge scar on the left side of your hip and it's been there since you were born."
Only Summer would know about this scar on my hip. She was the only one who confronted me about it when my shirt rode up, revealing the fleshy white scar from long ago.
I hugged her. "I'm sorry I didn't trust you. I was scared Daemon was playing another trick with me."
"It's okay, I forgive you." she murmured.
"I'm so glad to see you! Have you seen the others?" I asked her.
Summer shook her head. "I just woke up in the middle of the hallway and I found you. Maybe we should keep looking." she suggested.
We began to roam around the first level of the house. Once we finally looked through all the rooms of the first floor of the house, we came across a long stairway that leads to the second floor of the house.
"Should we go upstairs?" Summer asked.
"We need to find the others." I responded.
Slowly, we both climbed our way and when we finally reached the top, we saw them.
Brittany, Daniel, and Ted were roaming around the large empty room we found ourselves in while Angelo sat on the floor. The large room was eerily beautiful. There were no windows that showed the outside of the Victorian mansion and the walls pulsed with a deep azure color.
When they finally saw me and Summer, they sighed in relief.
"Finally! We've been here for hours!" Ted exclaimed.
"First things first," Brittany interrupted, "mind telling us what your nightmare is Summer?"
Angelo's loud wheezes and coughs prevented Summer from answering. I immediately ran to his side and placed the back of my palm on his clammy forehead.
"Angelo, what's wrong?"
He gulped a few times before answering, "We're close to the core of the Nether Realm. A-angels a-aren't supposed to be this deep in the Nether Realm."
"What happens if you get any closer to the core?" Daniel asked.
Angelo stared at me with blank eyes. "I'll be a demon again."
I shook my head. "That's not going to happen. I'll make sure that's not going to happen." I reassured him.
Outside the circle we formed around Daemon, we heard Summer admit to her fear.
"I'm scared of the dark."
The minute she said those five simple words, everything plunged into darkness.
"What exactly are you afraid of in the dark, Summer?" Ted asked.
Summer only whimpered in response.
The chill of fear swept our entire group when we heard the soft patter of running footsteps and a sinister laugh.
The things in the dark must have been what Summer's afraid of.
"Summer, everything's going to be okay," I consoled her. "when you overcome this fear, we will all be able to go home, okay?"
"I'm so scared, Cel— ahh!!!!!"
Summer screamed for help and I heard her nails scraping the floor. I waved my arms out against the dark, unable to see anything.
Angelo groaned in pain as he tried to muster enough strength to create light from the palm of his hands.
"SUMMER!!!!" All of us screamed our lungs out.
Angelo was able to muster some light and we saw Summer floating in the air. A frightening ghost held her close cackling, "She's mine now! You lose!"
The ghost then pushed Summer's blonde hair away and bit into her neck causing Summer to let out a heart pinching scream.
I attempted to run towards her but a large force pinned my arms and feet to the ground and forced my head to watch Summer suffer in her fear.
"I'm sorry!" She cried out before the entities she feared the most in the dark took her away from us.
I felt like I was going to explode. Someone was screaming, it was later I realized that it was me. Curling up, I sobbed as Angelo grabbed me and the rest of my friends before chanting ancient words with all the strength he could muster.
All of us returned to the mortal world safely. Ted, Daniel, Brittany, and Angelo were all laying on the floor exhausted.
It was only Summer who was missing from our group because she died in her nightmare.
