Hailey Mitchell POV

It must have been around nine o'clock at night and I was standing in front of the shop where Louisa worked. I saw her leaving the shop and I quickly approached her. I was sure I could control my thirst now that I had fed myself and wanted to let Louisa know that I was fine.

She turned around after locking the door and she jumped. I stood there and stared at her. I watched closely every human movement her body made. Her blinks, her breathing, the shivers that ran through her body as the cold wind slid against her skin, a coolness that didn't bother me.

"Oh my dear!! I haven't seen you for a long time! How are you doing?" She asked me.

She quickly approached me and gave me a hug. I froze and stared into space trying to ignore her heartbeat. She pulled away from me and stared at me.

"Oh Hailey, your skin is ice cold. Are you cold? I can give you my jacket."

"No, it's fine... I just wanted to see you one last time..."

" Why do you say that ? What do you mean one last time?"

"I won't come to this city anymore, I'm going to turn the page and live a new adventure. I wouldn't have much time to come back here."

"Reassure me then, my darling, are you staying with your friends? You need them. With your epilepsy and your leukemia you need a good entourage like them."

I let out a laugh.

"I no longer have epilepsy or leukemia. They cured me completely of my illnesses but that involves a lot of sacrifices.''

Suddenly I stopped talking when I had just announced this to Maria, forgetting that she wasn't supposed to know.

"But how is this possible?"

Of course, she was going to ask me questions.

She approached me as I stood in the light of a streetlight.

"What did they do? You seem to have experienced something that you don't want to tell me."

I shook my head.

"I can't tell you..." I told her.

"Was it dangerous?"

"I prefer not to answer that, Louisa, I wouldn't know what to tell you."

She walked closer to me and I backed away, the sound of her heartbeat echoing in her chest driving me crazy. I wanted that deafening noise to stop. I took a deep breath and let out a groan. I was thirsty and trying to do my best to hold myself back. Louisa wrapped her arm around me and the next second she let out a scream.

Under the effect of stress, I withdrew her arm from around me and ripped it from her body... She fell to her knees and stared at her arm and cried out in pain. I grabbed her by the neck and crushed her throat. The next second her cool, warm blood was flowing down my throat. I hadn't been able to control myself like I thought.

The blood was all I wanted.

People passing near us let out cries and started running. I dropped Louisa to the ground and attacked a second person wanting to drink more blood. People started screaming and it only took a few seconds for me to snap the necks of two other people.

I only saw the blood flowing around me and I wanted it more and more. I was letting my hunting instincts take over and snapping another person's neck when I was so thirsty.

Point of view of Demetri Volturi

I could smell her fragrance which was close, the smell of fresh blood passed through my nostrils. I feared the worst when I heard screams echoing in the distance.I had long since left to find Hailey and help her come back to herself, I wanted her to come to her senses before my clan found her. The blood had probably knocked him out of his mind.I arrived on the scene and I saw Hailey draining a woman of her blood. A dozen corpses were scattered around the neighborhood.

"Hailey! That's ENOUGH!" I shouted.

She ignored me and let out a groan, the victim had been dead for a few moments. I walked over to Hailey and put my hand on her shoulder.

"Stop, she's dead. Look at me Hailey."

She turned her gaze towards me and I saw her eyes completely dilated, she was unaware of her gestures. I had never seen a vampire with such a look. She seemed thirsty but yet with all the humans she had killed it was impossible...

"Hailey, I know you can hear me. That's enough, you don't have to hunt anymore, take control..."

Hailey let out a scream and fell to the ground, I turned around and saw my clan behind me who had found me. Jane focused on the pain she was making Hailey feel.

"Jane! Stop!" I yelled.

Caius raised his hand and Jane stopped using her gift. He was staring at me.

"She must be put under control, it endangers our existence." Said Caius.

" Let me do it. " I said.

I turned back to Hailey but she let out a groan and stared behind me.

"Hailey...Hailey, look at me." I said.

She shoved me to the ground and disappeared, she rushed straight at Caius and made him fall to the ground with a grunt, the next moment Felix grabbed her and held her frozen with difficulty.

"Kill that thing!" Caius ordered.

" No! Please Master, don't do this to her! She just has to come back to herself! She didn't want to attack you, she's not aware of her actions!

"Caius stared at me and returned his gaze to Hailey. I let out a scream and ran towards Felix however Jane knocked me to the ground as I cried out in agony from her ability.

"No Felix! Please ! I don't want to lose her!"

Felix held Hailey down on her knees and lifted her head up. I was screaming at Jane to stop her gift on me and the next second I saw Alec standing beside me and holding my arms.

''No ! Hailey!" I shouted.

Hailey was now Jane's victim and was screaming in agony, I started to hear the crack of Hailey's neck as Felix held her neck up.

"No! Stop!"

"I don't want you to witness this..." Alec said softly, sliding his hand towards the back of my neck.

The next second, I couldn't see anything but felt myself falling to the ground as Alec cut off my senses with just physical contact.

When I regained consciousness, I was on my knees still in the same place and I saw the flames burning in front of me, no trace of Hailey but by staring at the flames I could see her body burning. I stared at the flames in front of me, my mouth hanging open in shock.

" No, why?"

I felt a huge emptiness inside of me and I couldn't shut it down as Hailey's remains turned to dust.

Alec held out his hand to me, but I stood staring at the flames. Hailey could have come to her senses, we've all lost control in the face of blood. I stared at the members of my clan one by one without saying anything and my gaze ended on the flames growing as Felix burned the corpses Hailey had left behind. Deep down I knew. I knew Hailey hadn't committed any crime because we weren't in Volterra.

It was an order from Caius, enraged, because Hailey had tried to attack him.For a brief moment Hailey had sensed a threat of Jane's pain but had associated it with our Master's words and so her instincts decided to attack. I was just devastated to have lost her and not been able to protect her as I had promised.

"Dem, get up." Alec told me.

I stared at Alec and not only got up but disappeared in the direction of Volterra. I no longer wanted to be present in this place where my sweet soulmate had been killed by my own clansmen. I hated them for what they had done to her.
