Empty Words

This poem is shorter and kind of depressing, but it's about the disadvantage of texting. You never see the person's real emotion, so you never know what could be going on behind it all.

Empty Words

There's a girl who hides behind a screen

She feels as if her life is a dream

Concerned, her friend questions: "Are you okay?"

Her response: "Of course :)"

Those words are just words

The smile is just a text smiley

They hold no meaning

They're a shield

Behind the words

Behind the face

A girl feels tears stream down her face

They slip off her chin

And land on her jeans

Forgotten by the phone screen

Every night she lies to her friends

Puts on a brave front

But internally gives in

Her walls are crumbling

But who is there to tell?

No one can see past her veil

Her veil is a phone

Its false words

Its fake smiles

Will never mirror her face

But how could they know?

How could they see past?

How could they know she's falling apart

Deep and fast

She feels a void in her heart

But seeks shelter from it all

Behind her words

Behind her acts

No one will ever know her cold lonely truth

So how will they know

How will she tell

How will she get through it all

With her countless tears lost

With her words empty

Cold and dead
