1:Struggle
The sun rose slowly and gently this morning again as it always does. Alongside the shore was the best view of the dawn from anywhere else on the island. One of the bests the travellers say, the best sunrise you'll see will be at the town of Sunlevigo.
You hadn't woken up after a nights rest to see the sunrise, honestly you reluctantly woke up in the night not being able to go back to sleep. Seeing the sunrise was a reminder that you needed more rest then what you already got. So that's what was planned as you want back to your house to get those needed hours of sleep but, not without taking one more glance out near the sunrise.
It is now noon, you have only received an hour of sleep during this time although the rest of the time until now was a painful battle of unrest. Even the lonely meal at the table couldn't help how unrested you felt. You had debated multiple times before now, as to whether you should attempt slumber again although, each ended with the same answer of you wouldn't get any rest anyways and that today should be continued being awake. Also usually something else following about how you should probably do something more with your life, never know when it'll be the last.
By the time you had finished your meal, that you yourself prepared, someone knocked at the door. You went to answer it.
Behind the door appeared to be a hardworking mother and her young child. She had come for your blessing. She isn't the first to do so but it is quite odd every time. There was no one on the island that others could put there last hope on, no leader or god to ask for their blessing not as if they exactly needed one just for those who believe they must. The reason anyone ever comes to you is because they believe that you could wish a good future for their child. Although there is another reason as well, you did something to earn that trust in others. Not too long ago you would help tremendously with any situation, giving most of your time to others. Whether it was playing with the children or helping harvest the crops the two farmers on the island had. Although you had quit doing much of anything, you don't tell others why. You feel as though that's something best kept secret.
You don't deny the women's request. You don't believe it's your duty to rid away their hope, although it's still a mystery on how to exactly give a blessing. You did as you did to the past five or so people wanting the same thing. Basically you squat down to get eye level with the child and tell them something encouraging. By the end of it you'll give then a pat on the head and some sweet you had in the cabinet at the time.
Even though you went to do the same thing again, embarrassingly you couldn't get out of the squatting position and needed help from the mother. After getting help it carried on like usual, the child was happy to be given a treat.
Although when she left she seemed to notice the tired look in your straining eyes. She apologised for bothering you and left. The door shut and the silence and loneliness wavers back in.
Turning to the left you looked into the dusty mirror that hung next to the door, indeed the look in your eyes seemed dreadful and drained of life. The unrestful night wasn't the only one, it has been happening too often as of late, explaining the lifeless expression.
You went back to doing the usual, to stay confined in the house.
Not until the sun started to set did you realise the time, as well as having the need to eat some more. You were sitting on the coach, that was set not too far from the left of the front door. You didn't quite want to move although you slowly got up anyway to prepare dinner.
All throughout preparing and eating, a thought lingered inside of your head. 'What will you do with the rest of you life?' Surely not be a slug on a log inside of this old and dusty home, it's only dusty because of someone's sloth like nature anymore though which makes it even worse. You never really had a dream of any kind, no desire to be a doctor, Author, blacksmith, marine, or even something off the wall like a pirate. Nothing really ever struck as a desirable goal. One thing stuck out just a hair more then the others, although that one isn't something that could just be accomplished no matter how hard anyone tried. It is more or less tied into a battle of luck. Saying it is a goal is weird though, if it happens it happens though...
You retired to bed soon after finishing the meal and cleaning up, it was fairly an early time to sleep though. Even so you managed to get some sleep, maybe not straight away but eventually and you awoke feeling all nice and rested as the sun started to rise.
The sunrise was once again gorgeous.
Later that day, when going to use the toilet, you noticed the picture frame that stayed set on top of a small hallway table leading to the bedroom. The frame contained a family portrait, your immediate family. This contained a mother, father, yourself and the family pet which was a rabbit named Glitter. The original name for the small animal was Frost though it later obtained a nickname of Glitter after it knocked over a tub of glitter that was being used for a craft. Sadly the picture was taken five years ago, and the rabbit was already a little aged when the picture was taken, Glitter has been gone for a while now. Though seeing the sweet rabbit again brought a smile to your face. Thinking about Glitter brought you back to your parents.
"I should see them again." The two of them sailed far along across the ocean to an archipelago called Sabaody to help out a long standing business of the family after someone had passed away. They made it to the archipelago safely, though it's tough to stay in contact across the ocean without a transponder snail which was sort of tough to come by in the area. Baby transponder snails were available on an island close by and recently a travelling salesmen that comes to the island once a month sells them, though those where only useful for contacting others on the island and not across a giant ocean.
"I would not come back if I left." You talked to yourself a little more, a habit that was picked up from being alone constantly. Though it was true, the trek to the archipelago would in fact be risky to travel and there isn't much point in coming back either. The trip would indeed be one way.
"It's settled then. If I get a chance, I'll go. Then, when I go, I'll only look back once more to see the sunrise."
You set down the picture frame, with a smile that you've held now for a few minutes as well as the frame. Then something dawned on you.
"I still have to pee."
