Chapter 17

Due to request I'm fully putting each chapters instead of breaking down the scenes for you guys. Enjoy :)

Mikey always teased Leo for having a sixth sense, or what Leo called a gut feeling. Mikey likes to call it his "spidey sense," but more of a "turtle sense." Well, whatever it is, it was acting up, and even though they just finished or half-assed a battle, it wasn't going away.

"Do you think the Shredder is gone for good, Renet?" Leo asked, voice hoarse from the strangulation.

"I don't think 'gone' is the right word, but he sure won't be a threat for the next who knows. Wherever I sent him, he belongs there now." Renet said, all proud, shrugging her shoulders. She was too excited to see her friend worry about their enemy, but Leo being Leo, always had to be realistic.

"I just – I don't know."

"What's wrong, bro?" Raph asked; he held his dislocated shoulder but bumped him with his good shoulder. "I'm sure whatever it is, we can figure it out." He gave him a warm smile, and Renet was still not used to that.

They were so close to the lair; Mikey was ahead of them, kind of fast walking because they would see their brother. Their undead, older brother, but his gut wasn't acting up out of fear or excitement; something just felt wrong. He couldn't get his mind wrapped around it, but it may just be a mixture of anticipation.

"I think I'm nervous; I mean, this is our brother we're going to see. Finally." Leo smiled at Raph back, but Raph noticed the forced smile, but he didn't want to ruin the moment. Any anxiety or fears isn't necessary; his brother's alive, they're going to see him.

After all this time.

Entering the lair didn't feel familiar; there were so many… things like an arcade, a giant TV, actual electricity, and light flowing through the den. It felt so warm, such as an indoor heater in here, which surprised them the most. But, the three turtles stood there stiffly, unsure what the next move was. Their brother was nowhere in sight, so Renet took charge.

"Hey, Donnie?" Renet's voice echoed, reaching the two large metallic doors. The doors were locked, something that, even when Renet rarely came over, was never locked. Seconds later, one of the doors swung open before she could knock.

"Renet? What are you doing here? Are you okay?" Donnie grabbed her hands, scanning his friend. Rent only comes when there's trouble and his brother's failed to let him know Renet was here in the first place. Speaking of,

"Guys?"

Donatello rushed to his three brothers, who stood there like they'd seen a ghost despite being injured. "What the heck happened? Did I miss something? You guys were playing on the arcade not too long ago?" He spoked a mile in a minute, looking at their injuries. No one was answering, but Donnie was too worried about them being hurt than wanting an answer. "Come to the lab." He told them.

Raph was the first to speak. "We have a lab?"

"Raph, this isn't time to joke." Don rolled his eyes at him, giving him a toothy grin, but his brothers still stared at him like he was some ghost.

When Raph said he wasn't joking, Donnie's face fell, and he looked at Renet. "Renet, please explain. These guys are not my brothers."

"Renet, we don't remember him! I thought if we fixed it, we would get memories of what we missed!" Mikey cried out, and Renet wanted to glare at him because she honestly thought it was going to and that everything was going to be okay, but now she got three friends who never met their brother and one brother who remembers all of them.

Leo looked like everything was starting to make sense; his turtle sense knew something was wrong. He didn't think it was going to be this. So how did Renet not warn them?

"Okay, okay, Donnie, I can explain. Raph, Leo, Mike, I can also explain. Just…just Donnie, can you patch them up? We just got back from a fight."

Renet never took initiation, so Donnie knew it was better than to talk back to her. He quietly went back to the lab to grab his hefty first aid kit. Then, with a defeated voice, he said: "Okay, guys, go ahead sit on the couch. Who wants to go first?"

"Okay, so let me get this straight; in your universe, die. The Shredder kills me for some petty revenge, and so you guys grow up without me, and Renet comes to tell you, and you guys try to fix it and have me not get child me killed?" Donnie asked, but he knew the answer; he just, sounded so made up. Like they were all playing some dark humor trick on him. Leo was the last turtle to be patched up; he opened both of Leo's eyes, and with his lips holding the flashlight, he checked his pupils due to a maybe concussion. He let pulled his eyes away and grabbed his flashlight out of his mouth; "So, you're not concussed. Just probably going to have a bad migraine from the strangulation."

Leo timidly nodded, like he was at a doctor's office for the first time. "Thanks, Donatello."

"And to answer your question, yes, that's exactly what happened. Though, I was hoping this would not have happened." Renee said, pacing around the living room as Donnie put everything back in the first aid and grabbed all the trash of wrappers and bandages.

"So, there was a risk?" Raph asked, but he knew the answer just like his "brother."

"It was slim, but yes. Usually, when someone tries to mess up with the timeline and fix it, everything should go back to normal. But the second we entered the lair, I knew it was trouble because it should have come back the second, we saved your brother's life, and you guys acted as you've never been in your own home." Renet stopped pacing, pulling her helmet off and setting it on the floor just to pull her hair back from stress. "I'm sorry, this wasn't planned."

"It's okay, Renet," Mikey touched Renet's shoulder with his bandaged arm, "It's kind of hard to fix our timeline without something going wrong." He lightly chuckled and glanced at Donnie, who was staring at his hand.

"What's wrong, Donnie?" That word sounded foreign in his mouth, but it seemed like he preferred that name over Donatello.

"No, no, there is no way."

"What?" Leo now asked, pushing himself off the couch.

"I really was hoping it be some sick joke, but the scar on my hand… you guys did save me, but I grew up with all three of you, and you all grew up without me. So where are my brothers?" Donnie asked, but mainly to Renet.

"These are your brothers, Donnie. It's hard to explain, but it's kind of like that movie, Back to the Future. It was always them despite time-traveling; there were never two in the same universe. These are your brothers, just… something must have messed up. Maybe when we went through Shredder's portal… I-I don't know."

"Okay." Donnie swallowed a ball of saliva, nodding his head, trying to take in all the information at hand. "If anyone needs me, I'll be in the lab. You know, where the old garage used to be." Donnie wiped his cheeks, returning to his lab and closing both doors.

"Well, so much for a reunion." Raph bitterly said, playing with the sling around his arm.

"You don't think we can just, I don't know. Go back to our normal?" Leo asked quietly; he didn't want Donatello to hear. Despite missing a good 11 years, it was apparent his brother was upset, and the last thing he wanted was to listen to him ask him to go back when he was dead.

"Like an Uno reverse card?" Mike asked. He didn't like the idea of just ditching Donnie.

"No, no, no, we did not just do all that just to go back to our home." Raph shook his head, but it was ultimately up to Renet.

"Well, the reason why I came to fix this was not only for Donnie's death, but the Shredder ends up taking over New York, and then a year or so later, you guys." She motioned her finger to her neck, making a slicing noise for emphasis.

"So, we're stuck here," Leo said glumly.

"Look, I know it's hard right now, but you guys are brothers. I'm sure everything would be back to normal in a week, and I'm sure you all have stories to tell him, and he has a few to tell you guys since there are 11 years you guys missed." Renet tried to downplay it, hoping they would just agree, and she could go home. It sounded selfish, but Lord Simultaneous only asked her to fix whatever the issue was, and to return, he was going to call soon.

"We don't have a choice, do we?" Leo asked, but he already knew the answer when Renet shrugged.

Renet's phone was ringing; no one had her number but the guys and Lord Simultaneous. She picked it up, "hello? Oh, Lord Simultaneous! I was just about to call!" She turned to the guys with a look of unsureness, covered her other ear to hear her Master, and walked away from the group.

Minutes later, she came back with a shaky smile. "So, I guess it did work. The timelines how it should be." Renet gave a reassuring smile, but it wasn't cutting it for the three.

"Okay…okay…A week, it's all I ask for. And, if anything goes crazy, you have my number."

"Wait, you're leaving?" Mike asked, feeling like a child having to go to school for the first time by himself.

"Yes, my jobs done here, but again, you guys have my number, and I'll be texting and calling!" Renet gave them a thumbs up, "look, I promise everything will be fine. It's either deal with being uncomfortable or deal with the fact that your lives will be cut short if we were to go back to what the Shredders timeline caused."

"Fine." This time Raph answered, "I'm only doing this to get rid of my guilt."

"Trust me; it will." She smiled, and within a minute, she raised her staff, opened a portal to her home, and stepped in. "I love you guys." And with that, she left the three brothers with their thoughts.

"Next time she has some mission we have to do; I'm just staying home," Raph said bitterly, walking around the lair to see what stuff they now have that they didn't have before.

Mike was excited, but how defeated Leo looked took away the excitement. "I think it'll be okay, bro." Now it was Mike who put a reassuring hand on Leo. Leo made a mental note to stop expressing himself so much in his body language.

"Yeah," Leo said sharply, his voice still hoarse. He talked to Mike but looked at the two metal doors where Donatello went into. "We'll adjust; we're ninjas; that's what we do."
