flashback episode

"EVERLEE..."

Everlee Sinclair walked the ark with her father, her arm wrapped around his as they made their way towards where the chancellor was waiting for everyone. He was ready to tell the all that it was over, that the rationing would end and that they only had what they believed was twenty four hours of air left.

Jacapo Sinclair pulled his daughter closer to his body as they entered the board room where others of higher ranks were standing — guards, doctors, engineers, stations selected representatives.

And Everlee.

"People of the Ark," Thelonius Jaha spoke softly as he looked at the gathered people who stood around his table where he sat. "We are out of air. We have twenty four hours until any back up air and power will shut off completely. As Chancellor of the Ark, I declare that all food and supplies is to be equally distributed to any surviving member of the Ark."

Everlee watched with teary eyes as she clutched her father's arm harder, scared that he would be ripped away from her any second like so many had been only a day previously.

"Sir." Marcus Kane eyes the Chancellor. "Things could change."

"Be with your families and friends. Spend the last moments of your lives within the embrace of those you love." Jaha banged a mallet down on the table, his words set in stone as others turned around and left the room, and some took a moment to take in their fate. "Marcus, Jacapo, Abby and Miss Everlee, how can I help you?"

"Would you like to join me and my father for dinner?" Everlee questioned kindly, a small, kind, smile resting on her face with slightly rosy cheeks. "The invite extends to you all."

"Thank you for the offer, but I'd like to spend my time with an old bottle of scotch, and old recordings." Jaha started to walk away when Everlee stoped in front of him, her hand reaching out for his in a small shake. "Everlee?"

"Thank you, sir, it was a pleasure to know the real you, and not the chancellor." She spoke, because it was true, Thelonius Jaha and Chancellor Jaha were two very different people, much to what others thought. She knew that, she had grown up seeing his change from a father and council member, to an absent father and Chancellor. With her father being on projects that dealt with the man, she had grown accustomed to how he was behind closed doors vs in the eye of the public.

Jaha places his other hand on top of hers. "I wish you were a rebel child, so you could have explored earth, like our ancestors had."

Everlee glanced towards her father. "My dad is all I need, sir."

And to some, they'd need more, but with her father, Everlee was as happy as could be, even if she were to die in twenty four hours.

"I have an idea." Kane stepped towards Sinclair and his daughter. "Spare me an hour?"

Sinclair looked to his daughter for her approval. "As long as I'm hangin' with you, I'm happy, dad."

"OSLO..."

Oslo Blane worked on the guard as a seventeen year old apprentice. He was smart, quick on his feet, and had an in to everything that was happening now.

But when his father accused of stealing medication for his mother, he took the blame. Truth is, it was him who took it but had originally blamed his father because he couldn't spend the next year in the skybox, he has so much ahead of him, like a spot on the guard. His father was just a low life who leached of his mother — but he wasn't, he brought in most of the credits that supported the family.

"It was me!" He had called out as they dragged his father away. He had dropped to his knees and screamed it was him until Jaha looked towards him and told the guards to free Damian Blane, Oslos father. "I did it!"

So then they handcuffed Oslo Blane and pulled him into an interrogation room where they questioned him, until he confessed that he had taken the medication for his drugged up mother, and blamed his father.

He had a year to live within the sky box, unknowingly going to be sent to earth in a matter of four months. On the charge of theft, Oslo was placed into a room in the skybox with a certain John Murphy, whose cell neighbour was Marie Kane.

When the guards stepped into his cell and commanded that he hold out his arm so they could lock a device around it, he ran. What else could he do? Die? No, there was an open door and he took the opportunity to run as fast as he could.

Obviously it didn't last long, when a guard stuck his foot out and he fell flat on his face and smashed his nose against the ground. Blood dripping as he was pulled upwards, he felt his body go slack as the guards placed the shock batton against his side.

Fuck, he had done that to others when he was an apprentice, he never realized that it hurt this much. Fuck, he wanted to cry out but he grit his teeth and let his body shake as electricity flowed through it.

"Prisoner 3-7-2," the guard spoke as he pushed Oslo forward towards the drop ship. "Keep walking, now."

Earth. Oslo was going to earth with a bloody and possible broken nose.

"MARIE..."

Marie Kane had killed a girl. She didn't mean too, she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time with Foxx, a young girl who had gotten into a fight with a girl her age about something Marie didn't even know about, probably a boy.

But Marie had hit the girl so hard that she had fallen back and hit her head, causing her death to be almost instantly after a few seconds of bleeding out.

Marie didn't cry when her father had questioned her for hours about what happened. She repeatedly told him that she was protecting Foxx, who had been hit first — which was something they could tell by the cameras in the specific hallway on the ark. When Jaha had dragged Marie to the airlock chamber to watch the dead woman be floated, she didn't cry then either. Was she going mad?

"She hit Foxx first." Over and over again until she had been placed into solitary confinement, only being let out when they started to host earth skills classes for two weeks. And even then, when someone would whisper murder to her, she'd say, "She hit Foxx first."

Marie knew she would die, she had guessed that it would be early too, since the whole no air thing was happening the ark. So when a guard stepped into the call, with her father beside her, she obeyed and hoped that maybe she could convince them she should live.

Kane had lead his daughter passed an airlock and towards a dropship, where he moved her inside and showered her to her seat. "You'll be okay, baby."

But Marie just kicked her legs out after she had been buckled in, which caused her father to take a few steps backwards. "Don't call me that."

She was going to die because of him. Because he couldn't fight hard enough for his daughter, or maybe because he didn't care enough.

Either way, Marie knew she hated him today, and she probably would tomorrow too. Wishing she'd burn on her way down, Marie just closed her eyes and let her world change.
