Chapter 1

Ashton's POV

I threw my hands up to my head, frustration overcoming me as she carried on screaming at me. Anger was fuelling every action I took and I could feel the fire burning in my stomach, she needed to watch what she said or I was going to do something I regretted.

"How is this my fault?!" I shouted, my throat feeling raw. "You cheated on me!" I pointed between us, in disbelief that she was trying to turn this round on me.

"You're never there Ashton!" She shouted back, pointing back at me, every jab breaking my heart a little more. How did it get to this? We'd been together for two years! She was the love of my life and now suddenly she's found something better. We were a power couple, everyone wanted to be us. We'd met at college and hit it off right away, chatting in class for one day before we exchanged numbers. Following that, for weeks we were texting and calling, meeting up when we could so that we could grow. We went through hard times with each other, supported each other through ups and downs and had a fun and memorable two years - or so I'd thought. She clearly had a completely different view on our relationship. "You're always hanging out with those dumb friends of yours trying to act hard and get into fights and look cool. You need to grow up!" She ran her hands through her blonde hair in frustration, letting it fall back to her shoulders naturally. Her eyes glared at me with everything but love. This was unsalvageable.

"Dumb friends? I've known them forever! You seemed to get on with them when we al hung out, what's the problem?" My eyebrows were furrowed as I desperately tried to work out what had caused this.

"It's called being nice Ashton. They're all idiots. You're all in college but you act like five year olds! You prank people, you start fights, you end fights, you're all hated by pretty much every teacher because of your inability to act your age and you all don't give a shit about grades or work, just bunking off and smoking!" She rambled on. I was barely listening any more. She really had fuelled the fire inside me.

"You knew what you were getting yourself into, Amber. I haven't changed for anyone. We've been together for two years and I've acted the same every minute of every day. So at what point did you think it was better to run off and open your legs?" Her jaw dropped at my blunt question and it seemed to irritate her more. She looked up at the ceiling as if to gather some strength from God before she answered me.

"When you didn't even notice me or where I was! I'd get dressed up, you wouldn't notice. I'd buy new clothes, you wouldn't notice. I'd say I was going out and not come home, you still wouldn't fucking notice! I held off for so long, but you didn't even realise. You were too busy laughing at stupid stuff in college!" She took a few steps away from me as she threw her hands on her face and let out a huge sigh.

"Then be an adult and talk about it! Don't just sleep around!" I responded instantly. She spun round within a second, her eyes widened as her eyebrows were raised.

"Be an adult?!" She repeated. "Rich coming from you! You wouldn't know what adulthood was if it hit you in the face. You're honestly sickening." She shook her head in disgust.

"No, no, no. Let's not turn this around on me when you're the one who fucked someone else! Shit, this would be a whole different story if I had done it." My veins burned. The fire had erupted, it felt like my blood was now lava as she continued to blame this on me. I looked away from her for a second before looking back. "I loved you, you know? That obviously wasn't enough."  She let out a flat laugh and folded her arms across her chest.

"Oh here we go. Now you're finally going to tell me the feelings you couldn't be arsed to for two years. It's too damn late Ashton. I've found someone else, I'm transferring school and getting the hell away from you and your dumb friends. I'm not going to ruin my education being associated with someone like you." She hissed, turning on her heels and heading for the door.

"Then why the fuck did you date me at all? Huh? Popularity?" She stopped dead in her tracks before turning and storming over to me, slapping me hard across the cheek.

"If anything, my popularity and IQ decreased with you guys. I saw the potential in you Ash, but you never listen." She glared into my eyes before spinning round and heading back for the door, opening it with force. "Oh and Ash?" She said, causing me to look up to her instantly. "You will NEVER find someone better than me. Have a nice lonely life with your dumb friends." With that she slammed the door shut and caused a frame on the wall beside it to fall down and shatter on the floor. That was it, I lost it. I let out a primal scream as I picked up a glass and threw it at the wall, shattering the glass all over the floor. The water left at the bottom of the glass ran down the wall like raindrops on a window and looked on the carpet.

"Fuck!"
