The Secret-Keeper
Your Pov
It's been three weeks since the whole Zane incident. Vylad and I haven't been talking as much as we did before. Everytime I'm in class, I look around to see if anyone I used to know is around. Nicole had been questioning my behavior but I refuse to tell her what happened.
I feel that I haven't known Nicole long enough for me to judge whether I can trust her or not. I need to tell someone about my life. I've read that it's never good to keep things to yourself and that you feel better if you share things.
That's what I plan to do. However, I don't think I can trust anyone yet. I've only been at this school for about four months. I have made friends but I don't think any of them are trustworthy enough.
Enough of this. Back to present time.
I'm currently working on an assignment for my acapella class in the living room. Two other people and I have to record ourselves singing. I don't speak to anyone in my acapella class and I don't think my friends would like to sing with me.
KNOCK KNOCK
Ugh. Why do people exist?
I walk over to the door and open it to reveal Vylad. His hair is dripping wet and there is a small puddle forming around his feet.
"What happened to you," I ask him.
He smiles and continues to shiver.
"I decided to shower while wearing all of my clothes."
I recognize the sarcasm in his voice. I roll my eyes and groan.
"What actually happened?"
"If you didn't notice, it's raining outside. I had to walk to my dorm in the rain. When I got there, I wasn't let inside because apparently the boy's dorm got flooded."
"Come in," I say as I step aside to let him into the dorm.
Vylad steps in slowly.
"Can I use your shower? I'm kind of soaked."
I nod and tell him that I'll get him a towel. He walks into the restroom while I go into Nicole's room. We keep the towels in her closet so I take one and head back into the living room.
I knock on the bathroom door and call for Vylad. He doesn't answer so I open the door. I quickly place the towel on top of the sink and run out of there. Good thing he was already in the shower.
I sit down on the couch and realize that Vylad has no clothes to wear after his shower. I'm going to have to ask Cadenza for clothes. Dang it.
I get up and walk over to Cadenza's dorm. I knock on the door but she doesn't answer. I knock again. And again. And again. She still doesn't answer. Good thing she told where she keeps the extra key.
I kneel down to the flower pot Cadenza keeps next to her door. Carefully, I pick up the pot and grab the key underneath. I stand up again and unlock the door.
I walk into the empty dorm and head straight into Cadenza's room. Cadenza told me that if I ever need anything and she's not here, I could check her dorm. So technically, I'm not breaking into her dorm.
I open her closet and search for a specific box. After about two minutes, I find a box labelled "Men's." I grab the box and exit the dorm. I lock the door once again and head back to my dorm to give Vylad the clothes.
When I get to my dorm, Vylad is sitting on the couch with a towel around his waist. I walk over to him and hand him the box.
"I thought you might need clothes so I brought you a box full of men's clothing."
He took the box and placed on the couch. He stood up and placed a hand on his hip.
"I thought you might have wanted to see me shirtless."
"As if. Who would want to see you half-naked?"
He placed his hand on his chest and gasped.
"How rude! Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go change because a certain someone doesn't appreciate my beautiful body."
He then took the box and went into the bathroom to change. How dramatic can he get?
About five minutes later, Vylad came out of the bathroom wearing new clothes. He was now dressed in ripped jeans and a sweater that looked too big for him.
"Does the sweater even fit?"
He looked down and muttered "no." Then he walked over to me and gave me back the box. I placed the box down and we both just sat on the couch awkwardly. Eventually, Vylad broke the silence.
"I've noticed how you've been acting weirdly ever since we saw Zane. What's wrong, Y/n?"
This could be my chance to get the secrets off my chest. Can I even trust Vylad? I guess I should give it a try.
"Vylad? Are we friends?"
I looked at him and he looked at me.
"Of course we are, Y/n," he said. He then gave me a genuine smile.
"Can I trust you, Vylad?"
"Of course you can. We are friends and I will never betray you."
"Thanks. But Vylad?"
"Yes?"
"Will you be my secret keeper?"
"Of course I will. I won't ever dream of betraying your trust."
Good. I somewhat trust him. He looked and sounded sincere when he said that.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes for a moment. I opened my eyes once again and looked at Vylad. He looked concerned. I probably scared him with my questions.
"Vylad. Do you want to hear a story?"
"Sure."
"There was once a man and a woman. They loved eachother so they got married. Seven months after they got married, the woman gave birth to a little girl. Three years later, a little boy was born. They were all a happy family. However, the man and the woman started having problems. They were always fighting.
One day, when the little girl was eight, mom and dad had a nasty argument and mom left the house. The dad noticed that the little girl was watching. In a moment of pure anger, the man grabbed a knife and cut the girl's back. He swore to make everyday of the little girl's life a living nightmare. He would abuse her mentally and physically, but nobody else knew.
When the little girl was nine, dad stabbed mom and killed her. The little girl screamed and the little boy went to see what had happened. The dad grabbed the little boy, stabbed his stomach and knocked him out. The girl was stabbed in the leg and ended up with deep cuts on her face.
The police arrived and took away the man. The mom died. The little boy was taken to an orphanage. The little girl was adopted by one of the mom's friends.
Now the girl lives with no emotions but the anger which she is driven by. She lives in a black and white world hoping to see her brother again. The end."
I finish my story and look at Vylad. He is now hugging a pillow while tears threaten to fall from his eyes. He wipes his eyes and looks at me.
"You're the little girl, right?"
"Yeah. I am. Do you know why I came to this school?
"Are you the one that got into a fight with the principle?"
I guess Zane told him about that. I didn't even know Zane knew about it.
"Yeah, but that's only one reason. The other one is that I couldn't be in Phoenix Drop anymore. It reminded me too much of everything I lost."
"So, you're color blind?"
"Yeah."
He then stands up and signals for me to do the same. I stand up. He sticks out his hand as if wanting me to shake it. I slowly reach out and quickly shake his hand.
"Hello there. I'm Vylad Ro'meave. I have dark brown hair and green eyes. It's nice to meet you."
"What are you doing," I ask. Why would he introduce himself if I already know him.
"I'm describing myself. So you can have an idea of how I look like."
He says it like if it is the most obvious thing ever.
"Did you know that Nicole has red hair and grey eyes?"
"No."
"Well now you do."
The rest of the day, he continued to describe everyone else. He told me how Jeffory also had brown hair and green eyes. I learned that Lucinda has orange hair and red eyes, and Cadenza has reddish fire hair and pale blue eyes.
I appreciate that Vylad bothered to tell me everything. I think I did a good thing when I decided to trust him.
It's nice to have friends.
