By the Light of the Moon

I pulled my body up over the saddle, the horse neighing as I kicked my heels into its side. The wind whistled past my ears, as I sped off through the snow.

I was afraid of where I was going, but any place was better than there. The moon shone down onto the crisp ice of the frozen lake, this was a problem.

I forced myself to keep going, the horse's hooves clattering skittishly over the deadly crystals.

Howling. Howling? Uh oh. Wolves.

Suddenly we were surrounded by wolves all around the edge of the lake, slowly closing in on us, I tried to move quicker, crack.

The ice was breaking! The panic was starting to set in, as a wolf snapped at my ankle. Ripping my cape, I jumped off of the horse, grabbed a stick off a tree and held it forward.

Like that was going to help.

A wolf jumped forward snapping my, ahem, 'weapon'  in half. Great.

I screamed as another jumped at me, barely missing my leg.

I was definitely dead.

Another jumps forward, I cover my head and wait for the hit; but it never came.

I watched in astonishment as the beast leaps at the wolf, it whimpers as he snaps it's neck. I wince at the sound, other wolves grab at his cape and clothes.

He tears through all the wolves, shrieks and cries filling the air, covering the sound of cracking ice.

Ice breaks underneath his feet and a wolf takes its chance to bite at his arm, the beast cries out in pain. I hit the wolf on the head with another log, it whimpers and runs away.

Beast's body has fallen limp on the ice, I pull him up slowly, using all my strength. He seems to wake up a bit and help me pull him onto Garroths horse.

Maybe I should name him? Garroth probably has already but do I care? No.

We slowly travel back to the castle in silence, the snow beginning to fall heavier on the ground. If I wasn't freezing my ass off I would've said it looked pretty.

Finally we reach the door and we creep inside, leaving big bro's horsey outside. Poor thing. Ah, whatever they'll be fine.

I walk him to a room, some sort of guest chamber? As if I'm taking him back to that wreckage, no matter how "important" it is to him.

My lips are trembling, I realise I'm freezing.

I leave the room to grab a blanket from somewhere.

I guess the earth just won't let me leave this place, no matter how much I try.

I stare out of a giant window as I pass it, the beautiful garden is almost completely covered in a blanket of fresh snow, some still falling. Each statue, fountain and tile covered in glittering snow, illuminated by the calming light of the moon.
