Ch. 9: Lunch Break
In Heaven, Lucifer was looking through just about any book he could find that could help him find out who was responsible for his father's death... sure it was probably pointless to look here but he was running out of options.
Not to mention it had been FIVE years since Lucifer became "God" and he still had no clues! If this was a normal case of murder, it would be labeled as an "unsolvable cold case" at this point.
'I was so busy focusing on my grief and reuniting with my siblings that I never even thought of how he died... what kind of son am I?' Lucifer thought.
Even after all of these years, Lucifer was still giving himself a hard time. This time, as a son instead of a father.
He was so focused that he didn't realize that someone entering his office and walking up to him.
"Lucifer?" Sera asked.
"What is it, Sera? I'm busy." Lucifer stated, not bothering to look up to her.
"The other archangels are worried about you." She said with a frown. "You've been in here for hours."
"I'm fine, Sera. I can handle a few hours without sleep." Lucifer said.
"Lucifer-"
"I have to find out who did it!" Lucifer said, raising his voice.,"I... I can risk Heaven or Hell being in danger... and... what if this person doesn't stop at Father, what if they go after my brothers, or Jophiel... or... or my girls."
That thought also horrified Sera, making her wings twitch in fear.
'Emily!' She thought.
"Lucy is only five, she's practically defenseless." Lucifer said, concerned about his granddaughter. "If she's targeted... I don't know what to do."
Sera didn't say anything as she slowly approached Lucifer from behind, moving her arms around him in a hug.
Shocking them both by this action.
'I don't know why but....I just feel like he needs this.' Sera thought.
Lucifer didn't know what to say... or even do. He was just so lost right now. And this hug, even if it was from someone who wronged one of his daughters, helped keep him grounded for now at least.
"I'm scared, Sera." Lucifer said.
"I know, I am too, but we can get through this together. The only way to overcome fear is to be with people you trust." Sera said, even if that description didn't include herself since Lucifer didn't trust her.
"Whoever did this... will suffer." Lucifer said, his eyes flashing gold. "That's a promise."
'And I swear, to my father and myself, that's a promise I will keep no matter what!' Lucifer thought as Sera pulled away from him.
"A promise is only as good as the person who keeps it, so please take a break and get some rest. It will put your siblings at ease." Sera said before she turned and left his office.
He fell back into his chair and took his hat off.
"Maybe she's right." Lucifer said. "A small break wouldn't hurt."
His stomach growling reminds Lucifer that he missed lunch, AGAIN.
"Maybe I should take this as a chance to go see how Emily is doing." He said, patting his stomach.
'Maybe if Charlie isn't busy, we can all have lunch together? Plus, I can see my little LuLu.' Lucifer thought, smiling at the mention of his granddaughter.
She was exactly like Charlie at 5 years old, so full of energy and curiosity. Everything amazed her and she never got tired of learning.
He was so busy in heaven, he didn't realize that Charlie and Vaggie were on vacation, though it's not like he really needed to know, Charlie is an adult and the queen of Hell, she can go on vacation whenever she pleases and doesn't need Lucifer's permission.
But that didn't mean he could have lunch with his granddaughter and pay his other daughter a surprise visit.
"Next stop, the Hazbin Hotel." Lucifer said as he got up and picked up his hat.
He figured he could take the long way, it might be able to clear his head.
'It's a lovely day for a flight.' Lucifer thought as he walked out of his office and snapped his fingers to create a sign on the doors.
'Out of lunch. Be back soon.' - God.
He hated being called that, it felt... wrong... he doesn't feel like he deserves it.
'One day, father...I'll prove I'm worth of your title.' Lucifer thought as he turned away from the office. 'And I'll make you proud.'
Little did he know... he already has.
Meanwhile back in hell, Lucy was being carried by Emily as the group made arrived back a the hotel.
"This was not how today was supposed to go." Emily said, knowing Charlie and Vaggie would be back by the end of the week and see the missing tooth.
"At least it's just a tooth and a bloody nose. Most people get worse if they're not careful." Velvette said, walking behind Emily with Niffty.
"I'm sorry, Lucy. I'm sorry, Lucy. I'm sorry, Lucy." Niffty repeated sigh a sad frown and a tearful eye.
"Well, looks like you've had a rough day." Angel said from the bar.
"No, we had a fun day! And look, I lost a tooth!" Lucy said as she held up her tooth.
"I'm sorry, Lucy!" Niffty apologized for the 17th time since they left the park.
"Jeez! What happened to Nif?" Husk asked.
"Princess here gave her a bit of a tongue lashing." Velvette said.
"She's lucky I'm not firing her." Emily said as Niffty flinched. "But a more fitting punishment is that she's not allowed to play with Lucy for the rest of the week."
"Speaking of work." Angel said, gesturing to Emily's office. "Big Oz needs to see you in your office."
"Grunky Ozzie is here too?!" Lucy asked, extremely excited.
"I'll go see what he wants." Emily said.
"Can I see him after?" Lucy asked.
"Sure, sweetie, but go get cleaned up first." Lucy said before handing Lucy to Husk INSTEAD of Niffty. "Make sure to clean up, would you?"
'I can help clean!' Niffty thought in sadness.
"Sure, Em." Husk said.
Emily walked into her office.
"Hi, uncle Ozzie." Emily said.
"Hey, Emmy, good to see you." Asmodeus said, shrunk to a smaller form to fit inside. "Listen, I have to return to Lust for a while, there's a small situation and I can't be here and deal with it at the same time."
"You and Uncle Fizz want to bone?" Emily asked.
"No, no... well yes, but that's not the issue." Asmodeus said, "There's this mafia in Greed that are trying to move in... they think I'll just stand back and let it happen. I've had to deal with them before and I am getting awfully tired of it."
"But with you gone, won't Valentino try and take over again?" Emily asked.
"Well if he thinks that will happen, then I can show him what else I can do to prevent him from healing besides using one of those carmine weapons on the spot his below average dick used to be." Asmodeus said, smiling at the memory, "But I do feel like I need a foothold here, since I can't be in both rings at once... so I have a general manager working on keeping things here under control. I was hoping you would allow her to stay here, since it's close to the club."
"A new general manager? Sure, but who is she exactly? What's she like?" Emily asked.
"She can be a bit tough, but once you get to know her, she's a absolute delight. I wouldn't be asking for this if I thought she wouldn't behave." Asmodeus, "She should be here tomorrow."
"Okay, I'll make sure she has a room ready." Emily said.
There was suddenly a knock on the door. Emily opened it and saw Lucifer.
"Dad!" Emily said before she hugged Lucifer, having not seen him in a while, though he does call.
"Hi, Ducky." Lucifer said, before seeing Asmodeus, "Am I interrupting something?"
"Oh, we were just finishing up." Asmodeus said, "Nice to see you Lucifer, I was beginning to think you died."
"Oh me? Please, you know there is next to nothing that can kill me."
"Oh trust me, I know. I remember the fight you and Satan got into for rule of Hell... I thought the ground shook a lot during a honeymoon." Asmodeus said, letting out a small chuckle, "Well, I'll be heading out, give you two some bonding time."
Oh! Say hi to Lucy before you go!" Emily quickly said to him.
Asmodeus gasped loudly before squealing in excitement.
"Our little lamb is here?! Oh! Grunkle Ozzy is gonna hug her to death!" Asmodeus said as he rushed out of the room.
"...That's a sin... one of the most feared and dangerous things in the universe." Lucifer said, blankly as he stared at the doorway.
"Yep! But you also have to remember, he's a great uncle now. So he's going to be doting over Lucy until her 20s, at least." Emily said.
"20s? He'll be doing that until she's at least 100." Lucifer said.
'That's what he did with Charlie.' Lucifer thought, remembering such good times.
"Anyway, I was wondering if you wanted to go out for lunch." Lucifer said with a smile.
Emily's stomach growled as she chuckled a bit, still blushing from this even after she's gotten her hunger under control.
"I could eat." She said.
