Ch. 18: SURPRISE!

In the Hazbin Hotel, Velvette walked into her room and fell face first into her bed.

"UGH! Why must God test me so?! Haven't I suffered enough?" Velvette muttered into her pillow.

She glanced at the window, seeing that white "planet" in the sky above the city's giant pentagram.

'Ugh... that doesn't even look pleasant.' Velvette thought.

Seeing the glowing white "planet" in the sky, Velvette was reminded of her biggest mistake from five years ago.

Finding the head of the dead exorcists and suggest they attack heaven in a crazy war. If Emily was an example of what ALL high ranking angels could do, fallen or not, it would've just ended in a blood bath.

'Zestial was right, it was a stupid idea.' Velvette thought before she turned in bed, facing the other way.

"I think I'm gonna sleep off this lunch." Velvette muttered, slowly closing her eyes.

It was something she truly needed as eating sinner/hellborn flesh was really filling and can make a girl really sleepy.

With a heavy sigh, Velvette allowed slumber to take hold as she stretched her robotic hand to cut off the lights.

'Not bad. I could get used to these things faster than I thought.' Velvette thought as she pulled her arm back and set her to-go bag on her nightstand, leaving it alone for later as she slept.

-30 minutes later-

Cracking the door open, Emily looked in and saw Velvette sleeping soundly in bed.

'Okay, she looks okay.' Emily thought.

Emily had to check in Velvette after Razzle and Dazzle came to tell her about the lunch with Rosie, the cannibal overlord.

With that taken care of, she can head back to her office.

Her paperwork was done ahead of time for once and now Emily had a chance to schedule actual activities for Velvette to get to know everyone.

'The first step in redemption is friendship.' Emily thought, entering her office.

Emily sat at her desk and opened a drawer, inside was folders with plans and a box of expensive cigars that she was saving for a special occasion.

"It's been a while since I had one of you bad boys." Emily said, picking one up and closing the case.

She sniffed it longingly, sighing from the refined oder before biting off one end.

'Mmm, just as tasty as smoking it.' Emily thought as she ate the end she bit off before pulling out her lighter.

There was a knock on the door before she could light it.

"Ugh." She said, putting the cigar back in the case.

'Every time I want to relax, something comes up.' Emily thought as she walked to her office door.

She opened it, and there was a tiny toddler there to greet her.

"Auntie Em!" Lucy said with a smile.

"Lucy?!" Emily shouted in surprise as her niece hugged her legs.

"Hi, Em." Someone said.

And once again, Emily was surprised. Not just by her niece but by her sister's surprise visit!

"Charlie?!" Emily said as Charlie waved at her.

"Yeah, figured after the whole... thing... I could come by and see how you were doing." Charlie said delicatly.

"What thing?" Emily denied.

"Sis, come on." Charlie said blankly. "You know what I mean."

"Okay, okay, so I've been a little busy since the whole exterminators showed up, but I've been keeping everything up and running." Emily said with a groan.

"Sis, overworking yourself isn't going to help you process that. Especially with Pentious and HER almost dying." Charlie said, not referring to Velvette by name yet.

For obvious reasons. Cough, kidnapping and associate to attempted murder, cough.

"Hey, no one said that running this place would be easy, but someone has to do it." Emily said, shrugging.

"Look who you're talking to." Charlie said as he picked up Lucy. "So, I thought I'd come by and we can take a little girl's day to help you unwind."

"I don't know, last time I went out for something I came back and the place was attacked." Emily said, remembering her lunch with Lucifer.

'Oh god, has dad told Charlie he's god now yet?' Emily thought.

"It won't happen again, I promise." Charlie said.

"How?" Emily asked.

"I have a bodyguard detail watching the hotel right now." Charlie said with flash of red in her eyes.

"... You really are the best sister ever." Emily said, smiling.

"I know." Charlie said as Lucy giggled.

"Mama is overprotective." Lucy comments.

"That she is, kiddo." Emily said, bopping Lucy's nose.

Charlie rolled her eyes as she and Emily walked out of the office to the lobby.

"So, tell me, how is having one of the former Vs as a patient?" Charlie asked.

"You mean Ms. Velly?" Lucy asked about her new friend.

"Very good, actually." Emily said.

'Hehehe, Ms. Velly? Oh I'm gonna remember that one.' Emily thought.

"Really? She hasn't tried anything?" Charlie asked.

"Other than save Lucy? No." Emily said, shaking her head.

"You sure?" Charlie asked.

"Yes, I'm sure, Charlie. You didn't see Velvette when she first arrived, it was BELOW rock bottom." Emily said.

"What, did she not have any designer make up on?" Charlie asked with a mocking tone.

"No, she was just malnourished, had dirty hair, and torn clothes from living as a hobo after the Vs kicked her out. And she's basically just an overlord by name now." Emily said blankly.

Charlie had a blank face upon hearing that, hiding her shock.

"Huh." Charlie let out.

"Yep. Velvette was literally at the lowest point possible. So she has nothing left to gain and nothing left to lose by joining the hotel." Emily said.

"Okay but what if she goes back to her own way?" Charlie asked.

"She wont because I have faith in her. Everyone deserves a second chance." Emily said, putting a finger on her chin. "Well, besides that ugly cunt Val, but other than that, this hotel is for those that want to be better."

"What about Vox?" Charlie asked with a grin, reminding Emily of the other V.

"Not him either. And not just because of him and Alastor's "rivalry."" Emily said with air quotes.

"Hehehehe, Mr. TV face is so dorky." Lucy said with a giggle.

"Yes he is, he's also really stupid." Charlie said, pinching Lucy on the cheek.

"Agreed, ladies." Alastor said, suddenly appearing behind them.

"Uncle Al!" Lucy shouted, happy to see him.

"...You know that doesn't work in us anymore." Charlie said as she and Emily turned to him.

"Which is why I adore speaking to you." Alastor said, "It gets quite boring of constantly scaring people, having people know it's coming is such a breath of fresh air!"

"Looks like you haven't changed much since I became queen and left." Charlie said with a smile. "It's good to see you're still supporting the hotel, Alastor."

"Well, it can still be amusing. Especially with this pistol running the show." Alastor said, gesturing to Emily.

"Oh you." Emily said, before an idea came to mind. "...You know I think I should get a pistol for myself."

'Oh god, no.' Charlie thought he, imagining Emily wielding a pistol.

Or a shotgun or a rifle or even a mini-gun!

She was already dangerous enough with two swords and fire magic, why would she want to add a gun into the mix?!

"Can I get a pistol too?" Lucy asked, her eyes wide with pleading innocence. "Please, mommy?"

Alastor made a record scratching sound as he, Emily, and Charlie looked at Lucy in shock!

The only thing worse than Emily with a gun of any kind was a five year old LUCY with a gun of any kind!
