Ch. 16: Gossping Gals

CHOMP!

Velvette took a big night of her bacon cheeseburger, humming in delight of the "meat."

"Forgot how good flesh is." She said with a smile.

"Everyone does once you have a taste for it and you know how good it is cooked." Rosie said, eating "chicken" salad. "Especially when you know how to cook it right."

"Like that bloke, Jeffrey Dahmer?" Velvette added.

"Indeed." Rosie said with a nod.

On the table with a large basket of fries and various dipping sauces, Razzle and Dazzle sat and ate while listening to the conversation between Velvette and Rosie.

"So, Doll Face, tell me everything about Verosika." Rosie said, being a sucker for gossip.

"There's nothing to know. She's just the new general manager for Val's old club." Velvette said, looking away.

"And you instantly had the hots for her." Rosie said.

"Stop saying that! I don't even know who she really is!" Velvette said to Rosie.

"But you WANT to get to know her, don't you?" Rosie asked.

"NO-YEA- I DON- UGH!" Velvette said before biting furiously into her burger.

"Hehehehehe. You have got it BAD. It's almost like love at first sight." Rosie said with a chuckle, drinking some ice tea.

"That's only in stories, Rosie." Velvette said with a mouthful before swallowing.

"Oh, I beg to differ." Rosie said with a grin.

"Really? Is it that what happened with you and your husband?" Velvette asked, drinking her cherry soda.

"Well..., yes. I meet my husband when I was walking the mortal plain." Rosie said with a fond smile.

"AH HA! So you ARE a sinner!" Velvette said, pointing at Rosie.

"Now I never said that. Sinners have red blood." Rosie said before she picked up her knife and cut her hand, revealing black blood oozing out. "I'm what you kids would call "an enigma." A puzzle you will never solve."

"Ugh!" Velvette groans, almost crushing her burger from frustration!

'Motherfucking tease!' Velvette thought.

'I love teasing her.' Rosie thought he as she licked her own blood off the knife.

"So, about that hotel, are you really giving redemption a shot?" Rosie asked.

"Yep. I figured "why not?" I got nothing left down here anyway." Velvette said with a shrug.

"Nothing?" Rosie replied, feigning looking hurt. "Not even Mama Rosie?"

"Well... yeah, I have you, but... I have no purpose down here." Velvette said, glancing at her burger.

"What about reclaiming your internet media empire, your fashion industry, and getting with that Verosika lady you like?" Rosie asked.

"... I don't want to have that kind of power anymore." Velvette said glumly, shaking her head. "It's nothing but a false throne, filled with people that fear you instead of respect you and will betray you for more power."

The betrayal of Vox and Valentino, the two closest sinned friends Velvette had in all of hell, still hurt. Not to mention she could still remember that day, where they threw her away like she was trash.

If this hotel and redemption thing doesn't work... she doesn't know what she's going to do next.

"Okay, then what about Verosika?" Rosie asked, losing her smile.

"...It would never work between a hellborn and a sinner." Velvette muttered, finishing her burger. "I can't die by normal means and most hellborns can die like humans from old age."

"And?" Rosie asked.

"She'll die someday and I'll be left alone. Again." Velvette said bitterly. "It's better for both of us if I don't persue her."

"That might be what your brain is telling you but what does your heart say?" Rosie asked.

"I learned long ago not to listen to that. Just brought me nothing but problems." Velvette said.

She literally felt the bullet hole where her heart was crack a bit, symbolizing the pain she held was far from numb.

"I don't believe that." Rosie said, putting a hand in her heart. "The heart is a wonderful thing, it can tell you things you never thought of."

"Like what?" Velvette asked, licking her metal fingers clean.

"That words, are cheap. But actions, those speak the real truth." Rosie said with a kind smile.

Velvette didn't say anything to that. How could she when her actions in the past already laid out his horrible a person Velvette really was? How could someone like her be worthy to love someone like Verosika?

"...My actions have said more than enough." Velvette said with a frown.

"Not to her." Rosie said, "You're a stranger, this is a fresh start. Also... we're in hell... no one's going to care about your past."

"...I do and that's all that matters." Velvette said before standing up. "I'm going to the loo."

Rosie could only sigh as she watched Velvette walk away, leaving her alone with the goat dragon familiars.

"That girl is a tough nut to crack, isn't she?" Rosie asked them.

They nodded with hisses, still eating the fries with dipping sauces. Razzle had ketchup all over his chin, making it look like he ate something bloody.

"Hehehehe, Oh you little guys are to die for. Wish I had one of you." Rosie said as she tickled Razzle's chin.

Meanwhile in the bathroom, Velvette was looking at herself in the mirror.

Judging herself, hating herself, and feeling so sorry for herself.

"...You don't deserve to be loved by anyone. You never did and you never will." Velvette muttered, looking down as a tear fell into the sink. "Nobody could love a piece of shit like you."
