Chapter 3

"Nafise Hanim, a woman named Fatma is in front of your doors. She says she wants to see you," Maryam said to me and I immediately knew this was Fatma Sultan, Mustafa's concubine Mahidevran Sultana has talked to me about.

"So she already wants to meet me," I laughed as I didn't expect that I will have to meet her already at the begining, before even meeting my future husband Mustafa.

"Obviously she is jealous and don't even want a marriage to happen," Maryam said and laughed.

"Let her in, I want to see what she wants," I said and Maryam signalised to maids to let Fatma inside.

Funny fact was that she was Sultana of this Palace and she still needed my consent to enter my chambers.

"So you are Nafise Hanim, daughter of Persian Shah and future wife of Prince Mustafa?" Fatma asked me seriously as she entered my chambers and walked all the way to me. I saw so much jealousy in her eyes and it could he heard in her tone of voice.

"I am, you don't even have to ask when you knew everything about me before I walked into this Palace," I said to her.

"I want to present you myself. My name is Fatma, Fatma Sultan. Consier of Prince Mustafa and mother to his heir and only son Prince Suleyman. I am Sultana of this Palace and as you are new you should already learn the rules you have to bow to me and respect me because I am at higher place than you are," Fatma said slowly raising her head proudly thinking I would stand up and bow to her.

"I respect the fact that you are Sultana, but I am also a Princess. You and I aren't ranked the same way, and you know that very well," I said even though I didn't like to be bitchy about my title, but in front of people like her those were only words that could place them back to earth.

"You are princess of the enemies. You aren't our princess and because of that I won't have respect towards you," Fatma started being agressive and got very high on my nerves.

I knew she said all of this just because she was jealous I will have to marry a man she loves, but this wasn't how she should act.

"You are telling this only to me because you know I will marry a man you love with your whole heart. Instead of threating me here and showing zero respect, you should be with him and spend more time. You know, he wouldn't be happy for sure if he would know you behave like this," I said to her in a calm tone which made her even more angry. She had so much anger in her eyes.

"No, I am not jealous because I know Mustafa doesn't want this marriage, and I know you don't want it too. So I came here to offer you something," Fatma said.

"What can you offer me please," I said to her in sarcastic tone and Maryam laughed together with me. But Fatma was serious about this.

"I am more influential than you think, I will help you to return to Persia. I will call my most loyal men who will send you back to Persia and you would divorce from Mustafa, or actually marriage wouldn't even take place," Fatma said being really happy about her plan.

"Who do you think Fatma you are even to offer me this? If I wouldn't want to be here I would run away with my men for the first day arrived, but I stayed here. I would never ask for anyone's help, especially not from slave concubine who would do whatever is needed to get rid of any woman who comes near her love," I said to her even though I knew calling her slave hurted, I didn't care when she dared to offer me this.

"You will remember me when you will need help, and that day I won't help you anymore," Fatma said and angrily walked out of my chambers.

I sat back on my couch annoyed by Fatma's words. Maryam came closer to me.

"Did you really said the truth? Do you really want to stay here?" She asked me and seemed really happy with what I have said to Fatma.

"I have no other choice, Maryam. My family literally sold me here as a peace treat, where can I return? I have no where to go," I said to her and tried to remain calm, but I really wish I could go back to my homeland and to my family.

"We should go and take a walk in the gardens, fresh air will be good for you," Maryam said and she was right.

I changed my dress to go outside on the fresh air in the beautiful gardens of Manisa palace. Everywhere the tulips and red roses were growing, the fountains gave me relaxing vibe and this was definitely the most beautiful part of the Manisa.

At the distance of us I saw a man who was walking followed by the two Janissaries behind him. I had never seen this man in my life, but I saw he is walking closer to me which made me nervous.

He nodded his janissaries to stay away and they turned their backs when they saw me and Maryam, as we were women.

"Who is this?" I asked Maryam as she thought she may know a bit better people here than I do.

"Maybe your mother has sent you a letter and he carries it, because I have never seen this man in a Palace," Maryam said.

He walked closer to us and I knew he for sure wants to talk with me so Maryam walked away making sure no one will come here, because if Mahidevran Sultana or Prince Mustafa would see me here I might get into a trouble.

"Are you Nafise Hanim?" He asked me politely. I tried not to look at him because I knew how Ottoman traditions are.

"I am," I said.

"Is everything right in the Palace? Did they accept you here?" He asked me and I was confused by his questions because I had no idea who he was.

"Everything is fine, but I haven't been here for too long to see how it is actually," I said and looked at another side trying not to look at him, even though he was really attractive to me at the first sight.

"Did you meet Prince Mustafa?" He asked me.

"I haven't yet, I thought if we were engaged I would at least get the opportunity to meet him before the wedding, but he couldn't find any time obviously to come and meet me," I said as I was actually disappointed for not having even the opportunity to meet my future husband.

"He will find time for sure," he said.

"He should have already, he showed me no respect with that," I said.

"They obviously judge you here a lot because you are Persian," he said and my curiousity who he is became even bigger. Something gave me feeling that he is one of the people my mother has sent, Persian spies, to take care of me here.

"Only one person, but what I am wondering is who you are and why do you ask me all of this?" I asked him.

"Who do you think I am?" He asked me and raised his eyebrows looking at me for the whole time, and now our eyes finally met for the first time.

"Are you maybe here because someone from my family sent me a letter or cares how I am?" I asked him not being too direct if he is one of our spies, because I never could know who is he.

"It's right," he said and he looked a bit weird now, like he didn't expect me to ask him this.

"And?" I asked him.

"They have sent the letter which will arrive tommorrow, I ask you for being here tommorrow at the same time and place so I could give it to you," he said to me and he didn't seem like someone I could trust that is persian.

"I will be, but I better hope this isn't a lie, I don't like when someone lies to me," I said on Persian trying to figure out if he is for real persian, because little who knew that language.

"That's the deal, I won't disappoint you or lie to you. Come here tommorrow and you will see," he said and smiled until he walked away.
