Chapter One.
[ a.n ; slowly but surely, i think i know where i'm going with one haha;; ]
Every night you had the same dream, each with only a small difference to the other; but always the same starting. The sight of fire was so clear in your head, you could almost smell the smoke, and feel it burning your lungs all over again. Ah, what a pain. . .
Running a hand through your hair, you wrapped your warm robe around yourself tighter, trying to block out the cold air conditioner.
"Good morning."
You lifted your head to the door. Nosaka had walked in, holding something behind his back, a small smile marring his sharp features.
It'd been a year since the accident, and you were still undergoing therapy. You didn't have any family anymore, so no one would come to visit asides from Nosaka - who showed up regularly. Of course the two of you were friends, but, you had no idea why he bothered to come see you all this time. The red haired male closed the door behind himself before strutting past your bed, and pulling the curtains open.
You had a pretty view of the city and a few streets, you could see a lot from up here, especially the sunset. This view was all you had as far as the outside world went.
"Here." Nosaka handed you a bouquet of peonies. All of them different shades of soft pinks, with a few stems of cotton plants.
"Thank you. . ." Your hands reached out to take the flowers, breathing in their natural aroma. They were beautiful, you had to admit, but Nosaka couldn't be buying you flowers and chocolates all the time. "I love them, but please, you don't need to buy me anything more."
"You shouldn't be worrying about that." He jested, sitting at the edge of your bed. "Focus on getting better instead." He pat your knee. "Here, let me put these in a vase." The red head stood back up and carefully took the flowers, unwrapping the glossy white paper and ivory ribbon. He left the room for a moment to fill the vase up with fresh water, then came back to set it on your bedside table. Nosaka grabbed the ribbon and tied it around the glass, finishing with a perfect bow.
"How is your soccer going?" You decided to break the silence. You knew Nosaka played soccer, it seemed to be one of the only things he was interested in asides from reading. Nosaka must have had tons of soccer friends, too - which only confused you more as of to why he'd visit you instead of them.
"Good." He sat back down, flatting out the bed sheet with a hand. "I've been visiting a lot of matches to view the competition, but I'm sure I can win the next one." He passed you a soft smile. "What book have you been reading?" He peered over at the novel in your hands. Truth to be told, you'd forgotten it was there in your lap, open to a new chapter. You must have gotten lost in thought, staring off into space again.
Quietly you slipped the bookmark into place and lifted it to show him the cover.
"Ahh, I haven't read this one before." He reached out and took the novel, flipping his hand to read the back cover. "Thriller." Suddenly his mouth turned down to a frown. ". . . Why are you reading these kinds of things?" With his brows furrowed, he turned his grey eyes back to you.
"Eh?" You blinked. "Oh. . . I-I'm not sure." You mumbled under your breath. Maybe he was right to be concerned, you probably shouldn't be reading books about such heavy topics. Especially while still in the hospital. Maybe it was undoing the therapy you'd gone through so far. "I'm sorry, it was a bad choice."
Nosaka stared at the novel.
"I'll get you another from the library tomorrow, don't read this one." In attempt to lighten the mood, he lifted his expression again before pulling open the drawer from the table beside you, and setting the book inside. That way you couldn't see it. "I'll see you tomorrow, sleep well, [Y/n]-chan." He gently stroked at your hair for a moment before leaving the room. The last thing you heard was the door shut, and yet again, you were alone.
