Chapter four

- E M E R A L D -

“Do it!” The deep voice roars loudly making my body jolt at the tone.

Beads of sweat roll down my face, doing absolutely nothing to cool me down. My trembling hands hold tightly onto the pistol, lingering for a long time on the trigger. “I... I can't. I'll do anything else, just not this.” I say, my voice coming out small and weak but my posture remained content, my face void.

My eyes look straight at the blonde whose eyes are begging me not to shoot. For a good second, I turn to look at him. His eyes are filled with rage. I have never feared him but at this moment I had no idea if not being was a great idea.

“You agreed to this!”

“No I didn't. If I knew you would bring me here I would've flipped you off.” I say, my tone raising with each word. My eyes meet that of the girls again, I may have not known who she is or was but I could tell she was innocent. Another victim of his, precisely.

A loud maniac laugh escapes his lips, causing the girl to tremble in fear and scream even louder against the gag tied to her mouth. “Don't test me, I can kill you as well if I have to. Tearing you apart, limb after fucking limb until you'll be praying for death...”

My eyes flutter open with my body jolting upward. I look down at my pillow and see it soaking wet, like somebody literally poured a bucket of water on it. My tank is drenched in so much sweat, the cool air circulating around the room sends a cold shiver down my spine.

Rubbing my temples in order to relax my head, I try not to think about the abysmal dream I had. They always turn to break me apart, letting every deep and dark history of my past life haunt me like the demons that lurk in them. I walk into the bathroom and grab my toothbrush and forcefully brush my teeth in frustration. I immediately strip out of my clothing and step into the shower, seeming to need it so much with all my sweat even though I did shower at midnight.

When I'm done, I walk back into the room with only my towel and go to open a cabinet, taking out a small box of pills with a water bottle in hand. I briefly examine them and begin to open when the sound of the door knob stops me. I quickly slip them under the pillow hoping that whoever does not see.

“Sky...” I turn my head to the source and see one of the guards standing with his body half-way in, mouth open and eyes widened.

“Yes?” I retort, completely unaffected by his lingering eyes.

“Um... sorry to barge, but Callum asked for you. He's in his office.” He says before walking out and closing the door behind him.

I snatch the box from under its spot and quickly swallow down a pill and put it back into the cabinet before anyone else decides to barge in. Getting into the closet, I take out a pair of camouflage sweats, topping it with a light accent blue cropped hoodie, fishnet socks and a pair of black canvas.

I tied my hair into a firm ponytail, letting a few strands fall freely and applied just enough transparent lip gloss to satisfy me.

My hands purposefully pushed the doors to the bastard's office causing them the slam against the walls. “You called.” I say, my tone laced with boredom, ignoring his glare and taking a seat from opposite him.

“I see you still haven't learned how to knock sweetheart.” Callum says.

“Well-” before my mouth could spit out sassy comebacks or irrelevant profanities, Callum interrupted.

“I didn't call you here for games Sky.” He sighed, running a hand down his face in what I assume to be frustration. This made me straighten up, giving him my attention. When he saw that I was all ears he carried on speaking.

“Last night there was a break in. From what we know so far is that there were roughly about three to four men that came through, we caught them on the surveillance cameras just in time to catch one,” he said, whilst taking out his MacBook Pro.

“How is this possible? No one has ever made it through without being captured.” I asked, completely shocked. It couldn't be that easy for someone to get in. It could only mean one thing, we had a rat living among us.

Callum showed me the footage taken, five hours ago. A man hooded in all black approached the back gate in a very stealthy manner, he frantically waved over his hand to his right and that was when three other men in black followed close in sync. For a slight second, I caught a glimpse of something but the screen blacked out before I had the chance to see what or who it was.

“What the?! Damnit!” Callum growled.

“Does anyone know about this?” I found myself asking.

“No. Nobody does except for me, Jax and you. I plan to keep it that way until we know whose behind this.” I nodded in understanding. Jax was the guy who came to call me from my room, he was the most trusted guard here.

“So, is that what you called me for?” I deadpan.

“Yes and no. We managed to get one of them into the basement for interrogation and after a good beating we got the name of the bar that his leader owns. Here is the address, your job is to get as much information as you can on the owner.” He handed me a small piece of paper which I immediately tucked into my pocket.

“You got it.” I smirked.

The walk through the streets of Forts Dim was oddly peaceful. Now, coming from a girl who likes to take walks I know that this area is usually very noisy, especially during daytime. As I make a turn on the next road, something quickly makes me stop dead in my tracks with my jaw touching the pits of hell.

My eyes travel to the men's dangerous stares directed at him. His gun is perfectly situated in between his two palms, which occasionally shift between the countless pairs of threatening eyes shooting daggers at him. I internally shake my head at the most stupid and insane thing I have ever witnessed. Who the hell comes wearing a police outfit into a dangerous part of town with a gun pointed at hazardous men who won't dare think twice before taking your life.

“Kill me now.” I mumbled with a sigh, hoping today isn't the day I die.

Walking into an opposite direction, I take the fastest way to the side he is at and hide in the shadows. I make my appearance only visible to him, making arm gestures for him to come through my direction. When his eyes meet mine, I see slight confusion before he finally obliges and walks towards me.

“Hurry!” I whisper yell, and pull him to a place where I know someone won't easily find him and have the satisfaction of killing him. We run past and through a few places until we arrive behind an old but very well known and expensive bar a good distance away. I tap three times signalling urgency.

A pair of eyes come into view from the door for a good second before the door is opened, and we enter. Bryce's eyes look like they are about to pop out when he sees me.

“Explain please.” I hear him say but completely ignore him and turn to glare at the psycho standing besides me.

“Are you fucking insane?!?! What the hell were you thinking, walking in this side of town wearing that and pointing your gun out like an untouched dildo!” I practically scream my lungs out but continue, “if it wasn't for me saving your ass, you wouldn't be here right now. For fucks sake could you be any more stupid?”

“Will you shut the hell up and quit yelling. For your information, I was perfectly aware of my surroundings and had it all sorted out. So if you'll excuse me, I'll be on my way out.” He growled, his face red from anger as well as he attempted to walk out the door.

That flipped a switch and made me shoot a hard slap onto his left cheek. My palm stung from the intense pain, but that only made my smirk widen.

“You little piece of shi-” before we knew it, we both landed on the ground with our hands wrapped tightly around our throats squeezing in a manner opposing any room for air.

My body was soon forcefully removed from his body and taken to a separate room, where I was literally tossed into a chair.

“What the fuck is going on? Who the fuck is that? And I fucking swear if you don't answer me right now!” Bryce spat, causing me to roll my eyes.

“That is the cop I was telling you about.” Bryce's eyes widened upon my reveal.

“Bro!!! That guy is like sexy as hell, how did you two... like, what how?” I stare blankly at his already different excited and giddy attitude.

“Can we speak of this later, right now. I have got bigger fish to fry.” I say and pull Bryce with me.

“About damn time, can I leave now?” He asks with pure agitation as he carelessly scratches his beard.

“No dumb ass, that's not how things work around here. You're most probably wanted slaughtered for your dramatic entrance, and they won't stop looking for you unless I help you.”

“Uh huh, you done talking bullshit yet?” He yawns making my blood boil in anger.

“Look, all I'm trying to do it help you but you keep acting so self-centered and it's annoying me.” I say through gritted teeth.

He smirks with a devilish glint in his eyes and steps closer to me, completely closing the gap between our bodies giving us the feel of our chests pressed firmly against each other. It doesn't affect me in any way as I stand my ground, staring him direct in the eye.

“Am I really acting self-centered Sky?” That damn smirk still lingers.

Yes. You are.” I say without breaking eye contact. I feel his hot breath fan my neck with a sensation that's slightly intoxicating. His nose brushes up my jaw and lands on my ear, before he whispers,

“You're so fucking hot when you're angry, it makes you even sexier than before.” Before my mind can process the words that left his mouth, I feel something latch onto my right arm and then realization hits me like a ton of bricks.

He fooled me!

I try yanking onto the cuffs but it's no use. I watch with pure shock at his retreating figure until the door slams shut, leaving me frustrated and beyond pissed.
