Chapter 1
This book was based on a poem I once wrote, I hope you enjoy this.
Aria Soleil's flowing, iridescent robe billowed around her like a living waterfall as she stood atop the floating platform in the ethereal plane. The air here was thick with the scent of lilacs and jasmine, and the sky above shimmered with an ever-changing canvas of colors, reflecting the emotions of the mortal world below.
"Must it come to this?" Aria murmured, her voice barely audible against the whispers of the wind that caressed her face. Her heart ached within her chest as she peered through the gossamer veil separating the realms, observing the mortals scurrying about their mundane lives."True love is fading," she whispered, her brow furrowing as determination set in. "I cannot stand idly by while it slips away."
Aria's eyes, once bright with the glow of endless passion, now bore a dull, saddened hue as they traced the movements of the humans below. Her hands clenched into fists at her sides, as if willing herself to reach down and infuse each person with the vibrant essence of love that had once flourished so freely.
"Many have grown cold, pursuing selfish desires over the warmth of shared hearts," she lamented, closing her eyes and recalling the countless times she had intervened to protect and nurture true love. But those instances were growing scarce, the once-rich tapestry of human connection fraying at the edges.
"Can I not restore what once was?" Aria asked herself, her thoughts swirling like the mists that enveloped the ethereal plane. She knew that the balance of the universe depended on her success - and yet, she also understood that the power to change the course of human hearts lay largely within the mortals themselves.
"Sometimes, even the most determined of us must admit when we are powerless," a gentle voice echoed through the luminous realm, causing Aria to startle and turn in search of its source. There, bathed in resplendent light, stood the Reaper of Peace, her serene expression a comforting balm. Out of the shadows, the Reaper Darkness cloaked in shadows strode forth, followed by an equally imposing figure emitting a brilliant radiance. The Reapers of Light and Darkness had arrived.
"Is there truly nothing I can do?" Aria asked, her voice quivering with desperation."Your influence is not without limits," the Reaper of Peace replied softly. "But remember, even the faintest ember of love can be fanned into a roaring flame."
With that, she gestured toward the world below, where amidst the cold indifference, a single point of brilliant light caught Aria's eye - a spark of true love that still burned brightly despite the darkness encroaching upon it.
"Perhaps there is hope yet," Aria murmured, her resolve strengthened by this small beacon of love. And as she gazed at the world below, watching the ever-shifting tapestry of mortal emotion, she knew that she would not rest until true love had been restored to its rightful place."True love... where has it gone?" Aria whispered, her voice barely audible even to herself. She clenched her fists, feeling the once-strong connection between her power and the existence of true love in the world growing weaker by the moment.
"Fewer and fewer souls find their way to me," she confided to the Reapers of Light and Darkness, who stood nearby, observing the mortal world with her. "I can feel my strength ebbing away as each ember of love fades."
"Perhaps love is changing, Aria," the Reaper of Light suggested gently, his radiant form casting a warm glow around them. "Maybe it's not that true love is disappearing altogether, but rather taking on new forms."
"New forms?" Aria questioned, her thoughts racing. Could it be possible that she was losing touch with the essence of love? Was she overlooking something crucial in her desperation to restore it?
"Love has always been a complex emotion, and humans are ever evolving," the Reaper of Darkness chimed in, their voice smooth as silk. "It would be foolish to believe that love would remain static while everything else changes."
"Static or not," Aria replied, determination flashing in her eyes, "true love must endure. I cannot allow it to fade into obscurity."
She peered intently at the world below, struggling to focus on the dwindling sparks of love amidst the chaos of mortal life. With every fading ember, she felt her own power wane, leaving her drained and weak.
"Your heart is in the right place, Aria," the Reaper of Life said softly, joining the others. "But remember, we cannot control the hearts of mortals. All we can do is guide them and hope they choose wisely."
"Guide them... yes," Aria murmured, lost in thought. "If I am to restore love to the world, I must find a way to reach the hearts of mortals, to remind them of the power they hold within.""Be cautious, Aria," warned the Reaper of Death, his voice solemn. "The pull of love can be intoxicating, and the stakes are high. Do not let your own emotions cloud your judgment.""Thank you for your counsel," Aria replied, nodding her head in acknowledgement. "But I cannot stand idly by while true love slips away."
As the other Reapers watched with a mix of concern and admiration, Aria Soleil, the Reaper of Love, summoned what little strength remained within her, vowing to rekindle the dying flames of love in the world below.
"Perhaps my efforts will be enough," she thought, her gaze unwavering. "And if not... then I must adapt as well."
Aria Soleil clutched at the edge of the floating platform, her fingers digging deep into the ethereal substance as her balance wavered. A heavy exhaustion weighed on her shoulders, the once-bright aura that surrounded her now dimmed to a feeble, ghostly glow.
"Is this the end?" she whispered, her voice barely audible above the soft sigh of wind that danced around her in the ethereal plane.
This realm was a place of shimmering light and mist, where swirling clouds of color drifted through the air like echoes of forgotten dreams. Tiny pinpricks of light twinkled like distant stars, each one representing the soul of a mortal. It was here that Aria watched over the world below, her heart aching with the knowledge of how much true love had faded from it.
"Focus," she admonished herself, gritting her teeth as she fought against the weariness that threatened to overwhelm her. "You can't help them if you let yourself fall."
As she steadied herself on the platform, she could not help but feel a pang of longing for the days when her power had been strong, when her mere presence had been enough to ignite the embers of love in the hearts of mortals. Now, as her strength dwindled, she felt increasingly disconnected from the world she sought to protect.
"Have I failed them?" she pondered, her gaze drifting to the distant pinpricks of light. "Or have they simply forgotten what it means to love?"
"Neither, dear Aria," came a gentle voice, its tone both comforting and wise. The Reaper of Dreams appeared beside her, a shadowy figure wreathed in the indistinct shapes of half-formed thoughts. "The hearts of mortals are ever-changing, and their capacity for love is as boundless as the stars in the sky. They need only a guiding hand to lead them back to the path of true love.""Guiding hand?" Aria echoed, feeling a flicker of hope ignite within her. "How? My power is barely enough to keep me standing."
"True," the Reaper of Dreams acknowledged, his voice taking on a more serious tone. "But you are not alone in this fight, Aria. We may each have our respective realms, but in the end, we are all connected by the same purpose – to preserve the delicate balance of life and death, light and darkness, dreams and reality."
"Then what must I do?" she implored, desperation lacing her question.
"Seek out your allies, Aria Soleil," he advised, his form beginning to dissipate like smoke on the wind. "Find those who share your vision, and together, you can rekindle the dying flames of love. Remember, you are never alone."
The ethereal plane grew quiet as the Reaper of Dreams vanished, leaving Aria with only her thoughts and the fading echoes of his words. She took a deep breath, drawing strength from the knowledge that she was not alone in her quest.
She inhaled deeply, hesitating as she thought of the long and arduous journey ahead of her. She knew that one would stand in her way, but also that she was not alone in her mission. The thought of what it might cost her filled her with dread, yet her resolve to restore love remained strong. "I must do this," she whispered to herself, willing herself forward. "No matter the danger, I will find them."
The ethereal plane stretched out before Aria, a canvas of shifting lights and colors painting the vastness of existence. She stood upon her floating platform, the once-solid surface now wavering beneath her feet like water disturbed by a pebble's fall. Her power, once a roaring blaze that could ignite the world, had dwindled to the feeble flicker of a candle on the verge of being extinguished.
A breeze whispered through the plane, carrying with it the distant laughter of joyful souls, a cruel reminder of what was slipping away from her grasp.
