"One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself."
_______________________________________
Getting off the bus, you thanked the driver and made haste to your work place where you'll start a new day of work.
Yes, a day had passed since the whole... well, you know.
You didn't wanted to think about it too much since it was embarrassing to think about and you had hoped that no one remembered you were there in the first place.
And it wasn't like you were thinking about it constantly as something else was busying your mind.
The doctor's appointment yesterday was like any other - checking your nerves, the progression of the skin, resupplying you with more treatment and so on. However, something new had happened and you couldn't forget the doctor's words.
"You're arms are healing up just great! Unfortunately, I can't say the same for your neck and chest... they should have healed significantly by now but I think the nerves and skin tissue are severely damaged to the point of no return"
At least before, you had hoped that your body would heal in a matter of time and you'd finally be like everyone else.
That hope flew out the window.
The doctor suggested surgery to remove the burns but, the surgery scars would never heal either.
Your sister, who was always loud and irresponsible, knew to leave you alone for the rest of the day after the appointment.
Especially since how you wanted to be more independent.
Shaking your head to get rid of the sad thoughts, you finally reached the entrance of the towering building and stepped inside.
Instantly, eyes were on you.
"Isn't that her?"
"I wonder why he ran after her"
"Do you think she stole something?" Confused at the words flying around you, you tried to quicken your steps to reach the elevators. It was obvious that they were talking about yesterday and how your sister had caused a scene.
You pressed the button for the lift to come down multiple times but it seemed to be taking it's sweet time today.
That's when you felt a presence coming towards you.
Please don't talk to me, please don't talk to me, please don't-
"Y/N?" Surprisingly, the voice sounded familiar. Out of curiosity, you looked up to your left to see a certain blonde who always seemed to be wearing a white suit.
"M-Mr Kim?" He chuckled at your confusion.
"Surprised?" That's when you remembered about his last trip here.
"Mr. Kim, if you're here to go see CEO Min, then-"
"Actually, I came to see you" now this had caught you by surprise. Unsure if you heard correctly, you urged for him to repeat.
"Excuse me?"
"I came to apologise for one of my models coming yesterday and causing trouble" that's when you understood until you remembered his previous words.
"But, why to me?"
"Well I know Yoongi would never accept an apology from me and the closest person to him that I can apologise to is you" he tried his best to make you like him and to not see him as a nuisance like a certain masked man.
"Oh... well, to be fair, my sister also caused a scene yesterday so... I'd like to apologise too" this caught Namjoon's interest.
"Oh really? She was your sister?" Smiling in embarrassment, you nodded at his response.
"Yeah, she isn't exactly the 'quiet' one in the family..." the other chuckled at this.
"Well, that's great! I was actually searching for her anyway since Jungkook was wanting to meet her. Something about wanting to pay for the damage to his car?" Widening your eyes in pure horror, you realised how much trouble she was in.
"...I-Is his car... expensive?" The older thought for a moment before nodding.
"I think it's the latest model" that's when your heart sank. There was no way even the both of you could get together and pay for the damage.
"Damn it, Canna..." you cursed under your breath. However, Namjoon was quick to notice your thoughts.
"Of course I offered to pay for his damage on behalf of her since he did come here to cause trouble..." it felt like a weight had been lifted off your shoulders.
"R-Really? That's way too generous of you- surely there's a way we can do something to pay back with" you watched as he thought while crossing his arms before clicking his fingers in realisation.
"How about you join me for dinner tonight? My date cancelled on me so I have no one to go with" although his offer seemed very easy to do, it was suspicious that he would even make an offer to you, a stranger.
"Err, I don't think I feel comfortable with that..." Namjoon was unfazed as he continued on.
"Ah, right. Then can I have your sister's contact details then?" Suddenly, images of her somehow making a scene while having dinner with Namjoon files your mind and you knew it would be a great mistake if she went instead of you.
"Actually, I can go! I have to be more social anyway..." Namjoon smiled victoriously.
"Great! I'll call your work phone to tell you when I'll come by to collect you" and just like that, he walked away with a bounce to his step.
You were really unsure about his character and intentions but, he didn't seem all that awful. Not like how your boss treats him.
Letting out a tired sigh, you finally heard the lift arrive with a ding and you stepped inside without a moment to waste.
As you made your way up, a certain raven haired CEO was pacing around the lobby of the Shadow floor.
He was staring at the elavator doors that seemed to not open at all this morning and he was worried that his prediction yesterday might have been true.
The car chase was the most stressful thing he had done in a while and for Hoseok, the most amusing thing in a while.
Of course the photographer wanted to know what was going on but, Yoongi refused to let him know. To be honest, he was too embarrassed to tell him.
Even now, he is questioning his behaviour.
"...she's just my assistant that I need in order to work with. This is for the sake of the company... it has to be" he explained to himself.
Suddenly, the doors slid open.
In a second of panic, Yoongi tried to look as if he too had just arrived and was heading in to his office.
Just as he heard someone leave the elavator, he stopped with his hand on the door knob and looked back to see you standing there in slight shock.
"A-ah Good Morning, sir!" You bowed your greeting at him before swiftly making your way to your desk.
You tried not to seem so nervous around him but, his appearance so early in the morning caught you off guard since you'd never see him so early.
Just as you sat down on your chair, you were met by CEO Min right in front of your desk, leading you to stand abruptly.
"Y-Yes?" Were you late perhaps? No, that couldn't be it.
"...where were you yesterday?" He asked while busying himself by wiping the desk to see if it was clean.
Gulping nervously, you responded back.
"I was at a doctor's appointment..." you remembered emailing him about it since you were too scared to tell him in person.
The other paused.
"...are you unwell?" His tone was very monotonous for such a caring question. Although, he could be asking for proof and that he didn't believe it.
"No, erm, it was just a check up since my sister worries about me" that's when something clicked in his mind.
"...did she perhaps come to collect you yesterday?" Reminding yourself of the embarrassing occurrence from yesterday, you quickly nodded to move on in the conversation.
"Yes, she did" he sighed in relief knowing that you weren't kidnapped and that he had completely worried over nothing.
"...well next time, I would like some sort of notice of absences-"
"But I sent you an email" you interupted. The masked man froze for a second as he tried to remember reading such an email.
That was when it came back to him, the memory of himself blocking the assistant email since the last assistant kept sending him weird messages.
"Right... I don't look at your emails since it should be mandatory for you to tell me in person. I would like you to remember this for the future" and with that, he made his exit towards his office.
Once the door closed behind him, you needed to take a few seconds to take in what just happened.
Why doesn't he just read my email?
The idea of having to communicate more with him didn't sound ideal and this definitely wasn't going to be your last appointment. You needed some other way to notify him without actually being face to face.
That's when you got an idea.
--------------------lunch break-------------------
"Can't a guy ask for a girl's number?!"
"Not when that guy is being a stalker!" Jimin retaliated at the model in front of him.
You weren't surprised that as soon as you met with the others, they immediately bombarded you with questions.
"Please, Y/N. You gotta at least give me her number" you bit your lip, uncertain of whether you should or not.
"...to be honest, Jin. I just don't think she wants to see you" he laughed at this.
"Of course she doesn't! She'd be a nervous wreck with me around" he boasted while posing. The rest of the table couldn't help but grimace at the sight and at the same time felt sorry for him.
"Oh, yeah..." perhaps it was best to not tell him the truth.
"Well I don't know if you heard this but, apparently Yoongi joined in in the car chase" Taehyung stated after leaning closer in to the table.
You couldn't help but be confused.
"Yeah! I wish I was there when it happened ..." Jimin pouted before leaning on the table.
Hoseok simply grinned at the amusing memory of Yoongi jumping in to his car. Once they returned to the company, it wasn't long for him to find out what had happened.
This only intrigued him as to why the cold CEO was so worried for you.
The rest of lunch went by as normal as it could get and for a certain CEO, he had just left his office to go get food.
His eyes couldn't stop themselves from looking at your empty desk, obviously expecting you to not be there but, just to make sure that you weren't.
That was until something else was there in your place.
A little folded cardboard with the words 'Lunch Break' scribbled on it stood on the desk facing his office door.
Intrigued, he walked over and proceeded to pick it up.
A chuckled had unexpectedly escaped his lips which in turn surprised him as he cleared his throat before placing it back down to return back to making his exit.
------------------------5:50PM----------------------
"Ugh..." you groaned while stretching your aching shoulders. You had been typing away for a few hours now and you were just thankful that you'd be able to go home.
Or so you thought.
Mr. Kim had called earlier to ask when you had finished work and stated he would wait outside the building at 6PM.
You were still hesitant on going since you practically didn't know the guy but, because of your irresponsible sister, you had to take matters in to your own hands.
Curse you, Canna!
Suddenly, CEO Min's door opened to reveal the man himself busy reading in his tablet while making his way over to your desk.
Standing up to greet him, you were about to speak up until he reached to grab the cardboard sign that you made.
It was facing downwards to show that it was not in use but you guessed that your boss wanted to use it.
"What is this?" He asked after finally looking up from his tablet.
Gulping down your nerves away, you answered him promptly.
"It's to tell you where I am when I'm not here" a short time passed of pure silence until he finally voiced out his opinion.
"We're not children. I don't need these scribbles to tell me where you are. You have a mouth, use it" without hesitation, he threw it in the nearby bin and walked off towards the lift.
Frowning at his familiar action, you weren't surprised that he had done such a thing. You felt stupid to even have come up with an idea like that to begin with.
Around the corner, Yoongi reached up to run his hand through his dark hair in irritation.
Why did I do that? What the hell, Yoongi..., he thought. It was always his normal reaction to anything and it was just muscle memory to him to have done what he did.
Usually, the other's feelings would fly past his head.
Except this time, he felt guilty and wondered if he had hurt you again.
He needed to somehow make it up to you.
Sighing, he entered the lift and decided he would think of something for tomorrow.
You had already began to pack away, a little more solemnly than usual as you looked over at the bin to see the sign.
"...he could have just said to put it away" you sighed out before also calling it a day and heading off.
Outside the company building of 'Faceless', the CEO of LY stood proudly against his white porsche car in his matching white suit.
It was the evening and the sun was setting and he looked like he was in the middle of shooting a film.
Pedestrians walked past in awe as they noticed the blonde who was busy typing away on his phone.
That was until he finally saw you enter his line of vision, making him grin and open the passenger door for you.
Pausing in your tracks, you had to take it all in and really realise what was going on.
Was this really a good idea?
Taking in a deep breath, you prepared yourself mentally and finally entered his car.
He shortly after joined you by entering the driver's side.
"I was beginning to think you had ran off" he joked before driving off.
The car interior was just as luscious as the exterior. You were afraid that by even breathing on it you were going to ruin it.
Namjoon noticed this.
"You can sit comfortably, you know. I won't bite" you could tell he tried to lighten the mood and making him feel more welcoming.
Smiling shyly at his gesture, you continued to stay silent. You just wanted to get this all over and done with.
The ride their wasn't long but the awkward silence that had filled the car had made it so that it was longer.
Thankfully, you and arrived.
Stepping out the car, your eyes widened as the bright lights hit your orbs.
The domes sat by one another and they looked so cozy.
To be honest, you were expecting a very luxurious restaurant but with your work clothes, you were sure to stand out.
Thankfully, that wasn't the case here.
There were many locals here enjoying their meals and the cool summer air.
Outdoor restaurants thrived during this time of the year.
"Shall we?" Namjoon gestured for you to walk beside him to an empty dome.
Without a complaint, you followed right after.
You wondered what kind of food they offered.
After sitting down and getting comfortable, Namjoon spoke up.
"Looks like I've picked the right place" you smiled at this.
"I didn't even know this place existed"
"They only bring out the domes during summer times and they always do it beside the river. Me and my aunt would always come here but sadly she couldn't turn up tonight" that's when you connected the dots.
"Your date was with your aunt?" The other chuckled.
"Yes but how said does it sound that my own aunt cancelled on me" it was your turn to laugh.
"Well, it sounds more cute to me rather than sad"
"You're just being nice but, thanks" that's when you looked at the menu and you realised it was just cold desserts.
"This is a dessert place?"
"Well I thought it would be nice to have something cold during this summer evening" the two of you scanned the menu (it was mostly you since Namjoon already knew the menu from previous visits) and ordered your desserts.
After the waiter took your order and left, Namjoon spoke up.
"So, what's it like to work under Yoongi?" You raised a brow at him.
"Why ask when you already know?" It was no secret that the two of them knew each other.
"Ah so he's still the cold faceless jerk that everyone hates?" His harsh words somehow shocked you at how blunt he was about it.
Memories of him throwing away your sign earlier and the many rude things he had done before filled your mind.
Just when you thought he was getting a little better, he returned back to what he was.
"...I guess you could say that" now intrigued, Namjoon pressed on.
"Didn't he demand for you to take off your turtle neck?" He noticed how you still wore it even after all that had happened.
Looking down at your covered arms, you pulled them back and under the table as if it hide them from him.
"He changed his mind all of a sudden and said I could wear whatever" Namjoon leaned back in the comfortable straw pillow chair and looked at you with a glint in his eyes.
"...tell me more about yourself, Y/N"
All of a sudden?
"...like what?"
"Like where you grew up, what are your inspirations in life - just the basic things" well at least it wasn't too personal.
"Well, I grew up in Incheon and moved in with my sister here in Seoul to be more independent I guess and I just want to live a normal lifestyle just like everybody else" he raised a brow at this.
"Everybody wants to do that?" Your eyes flickered up at his to see he was serious.
"Err, yeah? Why wouldn't they?" Namjoon took a second to take in your words before continuing on.
"If I lived a normal life, I wouldn't be a CEO of my own company right now. Same goes for your boss" his words caught you off guard as you realised that he was in fact right.
"...what I meant was to be anything but lower than normal. Like the people who stand out and everyone gives them weird looks" you hated that feeling, it was like being a in circus but you were the freak show.
"So you don't want to be like Yoongi?" You froze at this. Was your boss lower than normal? But he was successful as a CEO of his own company.
However, his habit of hiding his face did make him different. It made him not normal.
"...yeah... I don't want to be like him" you looked down at your arms that were under the table and just sighed. Memories of your older sister trying to convince you to go to the beach with her but you didn't want people to stare at you so you always declined.
Even though your sister loved going to the hot beaches, she still decided to stay with you at home.
You never understood why she did it at the time but, now you did.
Namjoon sensed that change in mood and decided this was a good time to talk about his offer.
"Hey, Y/N. What if I said there was a way to help Yoongi get better?" Your ears perked up at this.
Better?
"In what way?"
"To show his face confidently" you furrowed your brows at him, perplexed at his intentions and wondering why he would even ask.
"Well, if there was a way to help then I hope he gets it. That is if he wants to" you watched as the older leaned closer and stared intently in to your eyes.
"What if I say that only you can help?" Blinking for a short moment, you didn't understand what he had said but slowly, it began to process.
"...then I'd say you're crazy-"
"A crazy guy who wants to help" you pursed your lips to the side, unsure of what he was trying to convey.
"...why would you want to help your enemy?" Namjoon smiled at this.
"Believe it or not but, we're not just competitors in the same industry... I really need your help. You said it yourself, everybody wants to live normal lives- well, just not below normal" your own words worked against you but, they were making more sense coming from the other.
Yoongi was probably hiding in fear of people looking at him.
You didn't know what he was hiding specifically but, all you knew is that you two were actually kind of similar.
"...please, I really need your help. Not just me but, his mother is trying to get closer to him after the whole... incident" he tried again while looking with hopeful eyes.
Incident?, you were now curious as to what happened for Yoongi to cover his face and to not be so close to his family anymore.
"...what do I need to do?" His expression lightened upon hearing your words.
"Thank you so much! I really owe you" the waiter then arrived and you had to cut your conversation.
Inside another dome beside you, someone sat while drinking a cup of coffee with her leg over the other and she had heard everything. A smirk played on her lips and she simply left cash on the table for the coffee and left.
