13: Maêl

What the hell have I done?

What was I thinking?

I run my hand through my hair. There is an undescribable feeling growing deep inside my heart. All I want was to apologize from Verena but I don’t know what took the best of me. My heart is making weird decisions.

But something more weirder is that whenever I am around Verena my mind and heart both give up. The only thing that I want or my heart yield is to touch her soft red lips, run my hands through her red blazing hair and to explore each and every corner of her soul.

I sigh in frustration as I can’t control or track the roots of my meaningless thoughts. The only answer lies in one person that is redemption and demise of my existence.

Verena Ambrosine.

“I have done what you have told me, Deyanira.” I sigh, “Do you think Verena will be alright?” I ask sitting next to her.

Her green eyes looking into my grey ones. She has been helping me to talk to Verena again. She is the one who told me to apologize as according to her me the prince of the Spring Court isn’t capable of apologizing and this would be best gesture to new start.

“Really, I thought you would never do. Because you only take orders from your father, isn’t that so.” Deyanira words radiates through my whole body. Anger boils in my body at the mention of my father.

But I don’t mind her saying this.

She knows how much I hate my father.

She is the only one that had helped me to stay alive while I am stuck inside this invisible cage. “Deyanira, I am sorry.” I say holding Deyanira hands, words still lingering in the air. “I should have told you what my father was thinking but seriously I had no idea what he was thinking and that kills.”

I adjust myself so I am face to face with Deyanira, “I want to read him but he is nothing but a book of mystery. And I don’t know what to do.” My voice trembles at the last word.

Deyanira holds my face in her soft hands, “I know Maêl and I don’t hate you. It’s just that I want to you stand up for yourself. I want what we have back then as a friend. I don’t want you to treat me any different like we use to.” Her hands move down my cheek and she holds my hands still looking into my eyes. I look at our hands and then back to her face. “I’ll help you end this game of your father but promise you’ll hold to what is left of yourself even if it involves Verena.”

I look at Deyanira with confusion, “I know you are going to say that you don’t love her or anything but she brings the Maêl I know in you. The arrogant and stubborn one.” We both laugh at her words but before she could say a word a servant bow right in front of us.

“Your Highness, the King awaits for you in the throne room and you to lady Tarmin.” And with that the servant left.

I look up at Deyanira and she squeeze my hands before we both leave for the throne room.

The throne room is almost empty, no guard or anything just a few members of the court. My father sitting right on the throne while the others are sitting on both sides of the thrones, where the court members sir. And before I and Deyanira could say anything the door to the throne room opens and Verena enters.

She is looking beautiful as ever. She is walking towards the throne and I see her looking towards Deyanira and I from the corners of her eyes. She bows right in front of the King. “Rise Verena.” King’s voice echo in the room.

Verena did as she is told. “As you know it is time for you to complete the task you took. The council and we all are very happy that you are going to do this.” The king has a mischievous smile on his face. Something isn’t right and I can’t find any clue what it is but I know deep down my father is on something that is no good.

“You are leaving tomorrow for the Dark Court. You are to assassinate the Crown prince of Dark Court, Rune Azriel Black.” The king say with a mischievous grin.
