Luke held Nolan on his hip, bouncing the irritated baby up and down through the backstage corridor. He sat back down in the dressing room, watching Matty drink an entire bottle of wine.
"Is he alright?" Matt asked, getting down on his knees and running a hand through his baby's hair.
"Yeah, yeah. I think he's just tired." Luke turned Nolan around, letting the baby sit in Luke's lap and face his other father.
Matty leant over, leaving a big kiss on his forehead. "You two don't have to stay for the entire set. It's a ninety minute set—Even I don't want to stay for the entire set."
The blonde softly laughed as he relaxed back into the couch. "We'll probably stay for the first three or so. If N falls asleep, then I'll stay for it all." Luke held Nolan close to his chest once more, brushing his curls out of his face.
Their stage manager called for five minutes and Matty stood up, buttoning his floral shirt. "I'm glad you guys are here," he said, looking at his family through the mirror.
Their radio tour was coming to an end right in the midst of New York City. It's been a few weeks without his family and it was some of the worst days he's experienced.
"Yeah, Stacy bit through your shoelaces in protest, by the way."
"Damn cat," Matty scuffed. He smiled, though, because he loves that stupid cat.
He kissed Luke and Nolan on his way out. He made sure Nolan had his headphones on, letting the sound cancel out. He didn't want his baby to already have hearing damage.
Matty was borderline deaf due to his hatred of in-ears.
Luke and Nolan made their way to side stage, the one-year-old wide awake. He was reaching towards Luke's neck, pulling at the necklace. He kept pulling, pulling the band out from under Luke's shirt, playing with the ring on it.
It was Michael's ring, actually. Eleven years later and Luke still wears his first wedding ring around a chain hanging from his neck.
Luke watched him carefully, making sure he wasn't trying to put it in his mouth or anything. He didn't need Nolan choking to death backstage.
The show started and Luke moved closer to side stage. He watched the love of his life sing his heart out and watched Nolan pull at the necklace some more.
There was one song of theirs that was Luke's favorite, something ran through him when he heart it. The chords of Heart Out began playing and a smile ran across Luke's face. He bounced along to the beat, Nolan giggling at his father.
The chorus came along and Luke sang to Nolan, even though Nolan could barely hear it. Luke played Nolan Matty's music constantly. He was sure that the boy would be able to recite every to every album one day soon.
"Your obsession with rocks and brown, and fucking the whole town's a reflection on your mental health." The audience screamed back the lyrics and Luke loved it.
What he didn't love was Nolan screaming it back, too.
Luke held out the baby, furrowing his eyebrows. Were Nolan's first words a swear word? Luke held the baby closer, hearing him say it again, and again, and again.
The blonde started to laugh, turning his back towards the stage and holding Nolan closer. "Don't say that!" He said with a giggle.
Nolan giggled, too. He reached up, poking his father's nose. "Fucking!" He said again, properly boop-ing Luke's nose this time.
It turns out Nolan learns a lot from Matty. From booping Luke's nose to swearing at high volumes.
Luke kissed Nolan a few times, holding him closer and closer as they turned back to the stage. He watched Matty dance around like a complete wet noodle, he interacted with the large crowd so well, Luke knew this was all Matty ever needed. This is all Matty ever wanted.
Calum laid in bed next to Michael a few minutes after midnight, scrolling through websites on his computer. He kept watching Michael from the corner of his eye and hoping the older man would look over.
Cal was looking at wedding rings, it was extremely obvious what he was trying to hint at.
He gave up when Michael got out of bed, heading to the bathroom to get ready for the night. He closed his computer in frustration, getting up to place it on their desk in the corner.
He moved over papers on their messy desk, trying to find the charger. Magazines fell to the floor as he finally pulled the charger, plugging in his laptop.
He bent down, grabbing the spilled items. The blue shade of a Tiffany & Co. magazine caught his eye. Calum looking at the pages with the sides folded over.
Michael was shopping for wedding rings, too.
