AN: read the picture above to understand (kinda) what happened to Legolas's mother. I will add it to a later chapter also. Sorry for not making it more clear.
It was Mid-Summers Eve and on this specific day was the 111th year anniversary of peace between the three elven realms. Melkor and Sauron had been defeated. Life was back to normal for the elves. It also marked the year that Thandruil would bring his son Legolas for the first time. All of Rivendell was excited. Everything had been prepared. Banners were flying, food was ready, rooms were prepared,and gifts were ready to be exchanged. The convoy from Lothlorien had already arrived a few days prior. In the distance, the banner of Mirkwood was flapping. The convoy was within sight. From Elrond's study, the lord of Rivendell could see Thranduil on his elk. There, in front of Thranduil, was a small child. Elrond smiled happy for his friend. 'I am glad that he can experience the joys of fatherhood.' Elrond thought as he descended from the study. The wood elves dismounted as one, Legolas still on the elk's back.
"Welcome, mellon-nin. I hope your journey was well." Elrond greeted. Thranduil smiled.
"It was as smooth as can be when traveling with a little one. Legolas, come down from the elk." Thranduil ordered as he moved away. Legolas looked terrified but started to climb down. Elrond watched as Legolas lost his hold of the elk and started to fall. Acting swiftly, Elrond caught the elfling and held him. Legolas had silent tears running down his face.
"Thranduil, shouldn't you have helped Legolas down from the elk? He's not even 20(about three human years old)!!" Elrond pointed out.
"So? He will have to learn to do things without help eventually." Thranduil countered.
"You imbecile! You can't just leave a child to climb down from an elk by himself! Least of all, from your elk!" Elrond muttered.
"Do not tell me how to raise my own children, Elrond!" Thranduil snapped.
"Forgive me, old friend." Elrond said. Legolas had long departed to hide in the trees.
