Lost Friends and New Friends
I slowly took my hands off my ears and opened my eyes. I stared at the door. I heard a car engine drive away, but I didn't move. I was too scared to move. If I went out there and found out that Maggie and Glenn were gone? That would be on me and I didn't want to face that ugly truth.
I sat there for a few minutes before I heard footsteps. I grabbed my gun with shaky hands and raised it towards the door. The handle was slowly pushed down before the door opened at a snail's pace. I saw a woman. She had dark skin, dreadlocks in her hair as well as a headband, the woman also had what looked like a sword on her back, she was wearing skinny jeans and I could see that she'd been injured as she had a deep and bloody cut on her leg. "Did you take my friends?" I asked.
She shook her head. "No. But, I know who did."
"Will you help me get them back?" I asked. She nodded. "How do I know I can trust you?"
She suddenly kicked something into the room. The basket full of medicine. "I could've taken your supplies and ran... I'm Michonne."
I lowered my gun. "I'm Ellie... You're hurt. What happened?"
"I'll tell you another time. You got any bandages?" Michonne questioned.
"No, surprisingly the pharmacy is out of that." I shook my head, glancing at her cut again. "But where I'm staying we have bandages. Someone who can fix you up real good as well."
"You seem hesitant." Michonne commented.
"I'm not supposed to talk to strangers. And Rick wouldn't like it if I brought you back." I replied.
"Well, should we let Rick decide that for himself? I can help you find your friends." Michonne reminded me.
"One question. Who plays Captain America in Marvel?" I raised my eyebrows.
"Chris Evans." Michonne furrowed her eyebrows.
I smiled and stood up, putting my gun away. "Do you think he's attractive?"
"That's two questions." Michonne deadpanned but I raised my eyebrows. She rolled her eyes with a small hint of a smile playing at her lips. "Yes. I think he's attractive."
"It's official. You're trustworthy." I commented, picking up the basket and the ball Glenn had shown me before he vanished along with Maggie. "Do you need help walking? I'm pretty good at that since I helped my friend Sophia who broke her ankle when we were lost in the woods."
"I should be okay. But, we should probably get walking now." Michonne said, heading out of the shop.
"Okay, let me know if you need anything." I responded, leading the way. I slowed my pace when I realised that she was struggling to keep up.
About an hour later, we made it back to the prison. I headed over to the gap in the fence and started to unlock it when suddenly I saw Rick and Carl running down the gravel path between the two fences. "Ellie, behind you!" Carl yelled.
I turned around to see that me and Michonne were slowly being surrounded. They must've smelt the blood coming from Michonne's leg. Michonne pulled out her katana and started holding them off. "Ellie, where's Glenn and Maggie?"
"I don't know, somebody took them." I responded.
"Took them?" Carl repeated.
Rick opened up the rest of the hole in the fence and pulled me through before grabbing the basket and the ball. "Rick, help her! She's my friend!" I yelled as the walkers surrounded her. She went delirious, before falling onto the ground, unconscious. "Rick, help her!"
Carl shot the walkers that went to close to her. "Damnit." Rick let out before opening up the hole in the fence, shooting more surrounding walkers and picking her up. Rick brought her back through the fence so she was safe as Carl did up the hole again so no walkers could get in. "How'd she get hurt?"
"I don't know but you have to help her." I insisted. "Rick, please."
Rick sighed. "Run ahead. Get water and a blanket. And Hershel." Rick instructed me and Carl who ran to do as he instructed.
I'd grabbed a couple blankets; Carl had a bowl of water and Hershel standing next to him when Rick came in with her. "She's not coming in the cell blocks. Put the blankets on the floor."
I put the blankets in the corner. "But why can't she come in? She's really nice. I promise."
"Hell's going on out here?" Dad asked, coming into the room.
"I made a friend." I responded.
"Where's Maggie and Glenn?" Hershel asked.
"Someone took them. Glenn made me hide and she found me. When she wakes up, she can tell us where they are." I responded.
"Someone took them?" Rick asked.
"I don't know who." I shook my head.
Rick poured some water over Michonne's chest to wake her up, so I ran over to her and kneeled next to her because she looked like she was starting to panic. "It's okay, Michonne. You're safe." I insisted.
She reached for her katana, but Rick kicked it away. "Hey, we're not going to hurt you unless you try something stupid first, okay?"
"She won't, Rick. She's my friend." I smiled down at her. She looked at me, but she didn't smile back. She looked scared.
"Rick, Carol's doing better but she needs that medicine." Beth said, entering the table room from the cells.
"Go ahead. Carl get the basket. Hershel, help Carol." Rick instructed before picking up the katana. "We'll keep this safe and sound. The doors are all locked, you'll be safe here... Ellie, come on."
"No, she doesn't want to be alone." I refused.
"Ellie, now, baby, come on." My dad said.
"We can't just leave her out here." I shook my head. Rick chucked my dad her katana before he picked me up and threw me over his shoulder. "Hey, put me down." I protested.
"Not happening." Rick chuckled.
"Mother Goose this is not funny. I repeat, this is not funny." I complained. "I'll be back." I assured Michonne before they locked her in the table room.
Carol was sitting up; Hershel gave her the medicine while Sophia sat next to her. "You're doing so good, mum. That looks gross." Sophia smiled. Carol forced a smile and patted Sophia's knee.
"I'm glad you're doing better, Carol." I said sadly, thinking about Glenn and Maggie.
"Thanks, sweetheart." Carol nodded, still not looking to happy with the medicine she was taking.
We were back in the table room with Michonne. I was sitting next to her as she was holding a cloth onto her wound to keep the blood in. Rick was standing in front of her, my dad a little to Rick's left and Hershel in between them about three steps back as he was watching from a distance. "Who took my daughter and Glenn?" Hershel furrowed his eyebrows.
"The same son of a bitch who shot me." Michonne replied.
"Hey, these are our people. You tell us what happened. Now." Rick forced her hand to go harder onto her wound.
"Rick!" I yelled, pushing him away from her.
Michonne pointed a finger at Rick as she jumped off the table and stood up. "Don't you ever touch me again."
Dad raised his crossbow and pointed it at her head. "Better start talking or you're going to have a much bigger problem than a gunshot wound."
"Daddy, she's going to tell us! You don't need to hurt her! Either of you!" I yelled, looking between them both.
Michonne stared down my dad's crossbow. "Find them yourself."
"Hey, put it down." Rick said gently to my dad who listened to what he said. "You came with Ellie for a reason-"
"Couldn't let a child walk home alone. That's all." Michonne responded. "I'll be going as soon as my leg allows it."
"No, that's not the only reason." Rick shook his head.
Michonne hesitated, glancing at me before looking back at Rick. "There's a town. Woodbury. About seventy-five survivors. I think they were taken there."
"A whole town?" Rick raised his eyebrows.
"It's run by this guy who calls himself the Governor. Pretty boy, charming, Jim Jones type." Michonne informed us.
"He got muscle?" Dad asked.
"Paramilitary wannabies." Michonne responded. "They have armed sentries on every wall."
"You know a way in?" Rick questioned.
"Place is secured from walkers but we could slip our way through." Michonne responded.
Rick nodded. "Hershel will take care of that wound for you."
