ellaeo's arrival

BODHI Rook was eleven years old when he became a brother.

If you had asked him before, he would have said that he didn't want a younger sibling—he was perfectly fine with the way things were. He knew having a baby around would change things, and he didn't want that. Bodhi did not do well with change for the most part. It made his tummy turn and he wanted to hide from it.

But change was inevitable, as Bodhi found out, and he would have to deal with it. Just like he would have to deal with a new baby.

Then the baby actually came.

It was a little girl, tiny as could be, with big brown eyes and a toothless smile that melted Bodhi's heart. He stood next to his mother, who sat propped up in bed, holding the baby in her arms. Bodhi reached out a hand to the baby, and one tiny fist captured his finger as she stared at him. He looked from the small girl to his mother, his matching brown eyes wide. "She's so little," he said reverently.

His mother smiled, extending a hand to ruffle her son's hair. "That she is." she agreed, adjusting her hold on the girl. "Her name is Ellaeo."

Bodhi smiled, absently moving his head out of his mother's reach. "I'll look after you, Ellaeo," he whispered to the baby. "You'll see."
