Varian's POV:

"Morning everyone" i said, coming downstairs.

"Good morning, Varian" my aunt said with a smile "Breakfast is in the kitchen, your friends are all already in there waiting for you, i made pancakes"

"Oh, Thanks Aunt Marjorie" i said.

"Of course, Dear, we want you all to feel at home here" she said.

I walked into the kitchen where Nuru, Hugo, and Ellie were all sitting.

"Someone's up late" Hugo joked.

"What time did you go to bed?" Nuru asked.

"Not even a good morning? Straight to questions, okay" i laughed.

"Morning, Var" Ellie came up and kissed my cheek.

"Guys, it's to early for this" Hugo complained.

I rolled my eyes and went to get a plate before i realized something.

"Wait a second" 

I looked back at the table where everyone was sitting.

Almost everyone...

"Where's Yong!?"

"He went out back to work on some 'secret project'" Hugo said.

"But if he asks you, you didn't hear that from us" Ellie said "He thinks he's being sneaky about it"

"Okay then..."

After breakfast i decided to go check on him.

"What are you working on?" 

"Nothing!" he quickly stood up in an attempt to hide it.

Yeah there's no way of hiding that thing.

I couldn't tell what it was but it was bigger than him.

"Yong, what is that?"

""Well i figured since the caravan breaks down easily in the rain, we would need a quicker mode of transportation and thus i give you" he stepped away from it "the Responding Operated Car Enhancing Travel"

He gave a small laugh "Or ROCET(rocket) for short, the name is a work in progress"

"And it's supposed to do what?" i asked.

"This one's just a test but once i figure it out, i'm gonna make one for everyone, we'll travel faster, and we won't have to worry about the rain"

"It doesn't look very stable" i said.

"Like i said, it's a  test and i had to work with what i had, hop on, we'll test it together, one of us may need to go in the animal seat though" he said.

"Animal seat?"

"I'm testing if it'll work with one, if so, you and Ellie will both have one for Ruddiger and Athena, if not, i'll make smaller ones"

"Um"

"Don't worry, they're technically big enough to fit a person"

"Yong, i uh.. i don't know"

"Comon, it'll be more fun to test it together, you can even help me" he said.

I got closer to it as he climbed into the drivers seat 

"Why does it look like a dragon?"

"Dragons are cool!"

"Okay then" i said

I got up into the smaller seat and he started it up.

"Ready?"

"I guess so" 

"Let's go!"

He pulled a lever and it went flying forward, getting dented by a tree.

"Oops, i gave it to much power..." he said "That's okay, we'll try it again"

We climbed out of the seats and he went under the machine.

"Okay, hear me out" he said, coming back out from under it "Fireworks" 

"What?" 

"For when we save your mom, we can set off fireworks"

"Yong i-"

He had already grabbed a handful out of his bag and attached them.

"ROCET test, take two!"

It didn't fly into a tree this time but it did shoot the fireworks in alot of different directions, and was still really fast, almost sending me out of my seat.

one of the fireworks flew at my uncle's shed and set a small fire near it.

"Woah woah woah!" Yong stopped the machine as i went to put it out.

"Oops"

"Yong, you need to be more careful" i told him

"I am being careful i need to adjust their aim"

"We're not gonna be able to put fireworks on this thing"

"Why not?"

"It's dangerous, so many things could go wrong"

"But that's why we're testing for every possible outcome"

"Yong, i'm talking from experience here, you have no idea how high the chances are that we'll gloss over something and it's going to throw us off the trail for who knows how long"

"But your inventions always work, Varian"

"I wouldn't say always..."

"What was that?"

"Yong you don't seriously believe that i've never messed up anything do you?" i asked him.

"Well there was that time the other day that you swapped bodies with Ruddiger"

"Yeah, trust me I've done worse then accidentally turn myself into a raccoon"

"Like what?"

"Nearly blowing up my village with hot water tanks three times before getting it right"

"No.."

"Yeah.." i laughed awkwardly

"but you still managed to pull it off" 

"Okay not the best example" i sighed "did i tell you about the time one of my experiments trapped my dad in a rock?"

"What?"

"I was 14 and my village had a bit of a.... rock problem.."

he snickered a little

"You laugh here but if you had been there you wouldn't have laughed" i explained "and it wouldn't have happened if i had just left the situation alone"

"So... you want me to stop working on the ROCET"

"It's not working"

"Okay" he went to collect the materials.

I felt bad, he seemed upset...

that's when i realized...

Later

"Sweet Demanitus, i sounded like my dad!" i said, burying my face in my pillow.

"Var-"

"He warned me that 'one day i would understand' i didn't think that day would come so soon!"

"Var, relax-"

"And now i don't know what to do because i don't want Yong to be upset but, Ellie you should have seen that thing, it was a disaster waiting to happen!"

"Var, if you wanna know what i'm getting out of this.." she said "Yong is a kid, he's twelve, and he really looks up to you, it's no surprise he wants to try and be like you, and you're just trying to make sure he doesn't get himself hurt"

"You should have seen me at his age, Ellie, i was a disaster"

"And at that age you didn't have access to a proper teacher to show you how to not destroy things, see if you can try to help him"

"How?"

"You'll figure it out, you always do"

I sat up and thought for a minute.

I may not be able to make Yong's ROCET idea work, but...

"I think i know what to do" i said "thanks for the help Ellie" 

I gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and ran back downstairs.

I found him sitting outside holding one of his fireworks.

"Hey Yong" i got his attention.

"Yeah?"

"I thought about what happened earlier and i'm sorry if i was i little hard on you"

"It's okay, it was a crazy idea anyway"

"You did have a good idea wanting to fix our travel method a bit considering the caravan is kinda wrecked"

"I did?"

"Sure, and though i can't really figure out how to get your 'ROCET' working" i said "What if you and i made some adjustments to the caravan? That way it won't break down if it rains again"

"We're gonna work on a project together?"

"Yeah, why not? I brought some tools up, so whenever you're ready"

He ran to get his supplies

"Question, can we install fireworks?"

"Maybe not directly but we can always bring them along to set off ourselves"

"Let's do this!"
