Elizabeth's POV:
I'd only been in that cell for a week when i heard something.

It sounded like someone was being dragged to the cell.

When i noticed who had been thrown in with me i was shocked.

"Princess!" I yelled excitedly.

"Hi Ellie" Rapunzel said.

She turned to Varian and the others who were standing outside.

"Varian. How could you do this?"

"I want you to know, I wish it didn't come to this. But when someone trusts you and you betray them, well, this is what happens." Varian explained.

"My kingdom needed me. I couldn't do anything about the amber, and I had to stay. I never meant to break my promise to you, Varian. We were friends." Rapunzel said.

"That's the beauty of my plan. In the end, when your memory has been erased, we can be friends again." Varian said.

"But you're only making it worse. None of these people did anything to you."

"It's not what they did to me. It's what I did to them. And there-- there is no way that they will ever forgive me."

"How do you know if you don't give them the chance?"

"I took their queen prisoner, I threatened their princess, I helped these guys take over their kingdom. You think anyone's gonna give me a second chance? I don't think so. No, making them forget is the only way to fix what I've done." Varian said.

One of his 'new friends' walked up behind him.

"Yeah, there's been a slight change of plans, buddy. Now that she's back, we don't have time for you to get your memory formula right." The man said

"We are still using the formula you've curated. Quirineon explodes. It will turn Corona to ashes." Another person said.

"But, no. No! We agreed nobody would be harmed!" Varian said.

There's the Varian i know and love.

"Relax, Varian. You don't want to end up on the wrong side of history. You understand, buddy." The man said.

Varian looked at me and Rapunzel.

"You're right. So I'm gonna have to ask you" Varian reached into his pocket.

"to step inside that cell."

Yes!

"Are you betraying us, boy?"

"I'm getting on the right side of history." Varian said.

"Take him out!"

Varian threw the alchemy ball at them and it exploded into bubbles.

I couldn't help but laugh.

"Ohhhhh. Sorry guys, that was a-Yeah, that was a bath bomb." Varian said.

Classic Varian.

Before we knew it Varian was in the cell with us and the other guys had left.

"All I ever wanted was for my father to be proud. Of course, if he were free from the amber now and saw everything I've done, well, he'd be ashamed." Varian said, curling up into a little ball on one of the beds.

"No he wouldn't" i said.

"You don't know that..." Varian said.

"You know...standing up to Andrew just now was pretty brave." Rapunzel said.

"She's right" i said.

"I know how much it hurts to have someone you trust let you down. I mean, after you go through something like that, how can you ever trust anyone again?" She said.

What did she mean by that?

Was she talking about Varian...

Or someone else?

"I don't know. That-- that's why I thought maybe if I can make you forget everything that happened, you know, we could be friends again. Learn to trust again. But I guess life doesn't really work that way." Varian explained.

Suddenly we noticed Eugene and Lance standing outside.

"Okay, this is very sweet, but, honestly, I'm offended. I can't believe you were going to break into something, and you didn't even ask me. It's kind of my thing." Eugene said.

He picked the lock and let us out.

"Thank goodness you're here!" Rapunzel said.

We all started to walk out before Varian bumped into Lance.

"And where do you think you're going, little man?" Lance asked.

He rubbed his thumb on Varian's chin and suddenly the 'facial hair' was gone.

"I knew it wasn't real!" I laughed.

"Ok but you gotta admit, it looked cool" Varian said.

"Eh"

"Guys, we're going to have to trust him." Rapunzel said.

"After everything Hair Stripe here has done, you're going to trust him?" Eugene asked.

I glared at him.

"Yes. He's the one that made the formula that the Saporians are about to drop on Corona. We need him." Rapunzel explained.

"Well what are we waiting for!? Let's go!" I said, pulling Varian along behind me.

"Woah!"

A few minutes later

"There's enough Quirineon on that ship to destroy Corona ten times over." Varian said.

This made me nervous.

"Is there anything you can do?" Rapunzel asked.

"If you can get me on that ship, I think I can neutralize it." Varian said.

I noticed the king and queen getting into a carriage.

That's not good.

"Rapunzel! Your parents!" I said.

"Eugene, I need you guys to free my parents." Rapunzel said.

"You heard her, boys. Let's go."

"How do we get on the ship?" I asked.

"Oh no! No no no!" Varian said.

"What?"

"I let you get hurt once! Never again! Rapunzel and i will deal with this!" Varian said.

"But i wanna help!" I said.

Varian sighed.

"I'm sorry"

He reached into his pocket and pulled out the sleeping powder.

A few minutes later i woke up perched up against a barrel out of view from the ship which was about to take off.

Not so fast!

I ran up and grabbed onto the ship as it went into the air, then i climbed up to the very top.

"With this first barrel, we plant the seeds of a new Saporia. Let's just take a second to make sure that we are truly present in this moment."

Suddenly Varian and Rapunzel appeared.

"Drop something?" Rapunzel said.

"You!"

"Varian, get your alchemy belt and neutralize the Quroneo-"

"Uh, Quirineon, Rapunzel. Say it with me, 'Quirin'-oh!" Varian corrected before being cut off.

That's my Varian...

There were alot of crazy explosions going on, with a surprising amount of bubbles.

"What's with all the bubbles!?" I joked.

"Ellie!?" Varian looked up at me.

"Hey guys! Varian you realize that less then a handful of that stuff was not enough to keep me out right?" I asked.

"Heh, right, now, if you're here can you come help us!?" He asked.

"Oh, we're not done yet. Time for Corona to go boom!" Andrew said, cutting a rope on the ballon.

we all clung to the side of the ship.

"That single burner cannot generate enough heat to keep this ship in the air. If it crashes, it will destroy all of Corona." Varian explained.

"What if we use the Quirineon?" Rapunzel suggested.

"Yes! Yes! Heating the Quirineon will increase the temperature enough for the balloons to rise. We just have to get it high enough so that when it explodes, it doesn't destroy the city." Varian said.

He sighed.

"You need to get off the ship." He said.

"I've gotta clean up my own mess"

"By dying!?" I cried.

"No! You do not have a shield of magic hair that will protect you when this thing explodes." Rapunzel said, grabbing us both in her hair.

"Woah!"

"What are you doing?" Varian asked.

"It's your mess, but it's my kingdom." Rapunzel said before dropping us on the roof of a building.

"No! Rapunzel!" Varian cried.

I ran up to him.

"She'll be ok" i told him.

"I hope you're right" he said before turning to me.

"Look, about what happened a few days ago..." he said.

"I know i know, you wanted to seem intimidating." I joked.

"I'm really sorry, i shouldn't have acted the way i did" he said. "Do you think you can forgive me?" He asked.

I smiled at him.

He pulled his mask over his face, he was clearly embarrassed.

"I can understand if you don't i mean-"

"Varian!" I cut him off "Stop talking"

I pulled his mask down and kissed him.

"I just have one condition" i said.

"What's that?" He asked, slightly flustered.

Which was understandable, i've kissed him on the cheek before but never on the lips before now.

"Never do that again" i said.

He laughed "i promise"
