Chapter 65

"Babe, I don't think the pack should help them," I said as Paul drove over to the Cullen's home.

"Why not?" He asked.

"They've caused nothing but trouble for the pack in the past," I said.

"I know, babygirl, but this is your sister we're talking about," he said.

"My sister who couldn't even be bothered to show up at my wedding," I said. I had long ago stopped trying to be Bella's friend. We now hold a mutual hate for each other.

"I know, let's just hear them out," he said, putting the car into park before the two of us and Embry got out. He had been so quiet that I forgot he was with us.

"Why is she here?" Jake asked, meeting us at the door.

"She's the alpha female," Paul said. "Besides, she smells like me, not a human."

"If she gets hurt it's on you," Jake said.

"Who's going to hurt me?" I asked, following him into the house. He didn't answer, but instead led us up to the sitting room. Everyone was there, along with two new boys that I didn't recognize.

"Mikey, Devin, this is Paul Lahote, his wife, Lizzie, and Embry Call. Paul is the alpha of the La Push pack, and Embry is his second in command," Carlisle said, introducing us.

"Why are we here?" Paul asked, clearly annoyed that they brought two more bloodsuckers into his territory.

"The Volturri are after us," Emmett said, glaring at Mikey. Something happened there, and it was made evident when Rosalie grabbed onto Mikey like she used to with Emmett.

"Why?" I asked, feeling sorry for him.

"They made up some shit law about the number of people in a coven," Emmett said.

"Emmett," Esme warned. I got the feeling she has been doing that a lot recently.

"They're just doing to get Edward, Bella, Alice, Jasper, and Nes," he argued. I had to admit that I did feel bad for him. Losing the girl of his dreams must've crushed him inside.

Edward let out a chuckle, causing us all to look at him. "Liz isn't completely heartless."

"No one ever said I was, except Bella," I informed him. He rolled his eyes, and Paul got us back on track.

It turned out that the Volturri were coming after them in about four days time. Paul refused to give an answer before talking to the pack and elders, prompting a late night emergency meeting. He and Embry called everyone down to our house for this meeting, and I managed to stay awake even though I was exhausted.

"Elizabeth, what's your take on all of this?" Billy asked. I was sitting on Paul's lap, half asleep, so Paul had to shake me awake so I would answer.

"I say kick 'em out of town. They cause nothing but trouble for the pack," I said, rubbing my eyes and yawning in attempt to wake up.

"Agreed," most of the guys who were around to fight the Volturri the first time responded.

"Hold up, what happened to you feeling bad for Emmett earlier?" Paul asked.

"He lost his mate," I said. "I have every right to feel bad for him."

"That she does," Sue said. She had left the kids with my dad, and we were hoping he could manage for a few hours. He's never had all three alone before.

The conversation continued for a few more minutes until an agreement was reached.
