Chapter 63
"Paul, baby, I can't believe it's been a year since the twins were born," I said, waking him up.
"Babe, you know I love you and those kids, but I didn't get home until 2:30 this morning," he said.
"Go back to sleep," I said, getting out of bed. 2:30 was five hours ago, but I knew Paul hadn't gotten much sleep lately. Between Samantha's ear infection a month ago and word from the Cullen's that the Volturri were after them again, Paul had given up a lot, including his much desired sleep.
Grayson was now four, but slept like his father so I had to wake him up most mornings. He was usually pretty cooperative though, so it wasn't a big deal to me.
"Grayson," I said, sitting on the edge of his race car bed. He had insisted on getting it for his fourth birthday, and Paul was all to willing to cave.
"Just five more minutes," he whined. Like father like son.
"Just no more minutes," I said. I stood up and turned the lights on before leaving the room and making sure to leave the door open.
I returned to my room to grab the baby monitor, noticing that both twins were awake. I grabbed Sam, changing her first, before setting her back in her crib to change Wyatt. I'd mastered the whole "art of raising twins" thing. I knew exactly where they both were at all times.
"Let's go get breakfast," I said, picking both twins up and walking to the kitchen.
As I passed Grayson's room, I noticed he was still asleep. "Grayson," I sung into his doorway. "It's morning."
"Can I wake daddy up?" He asked.
"No, he needs a few more hours of sleep," I said.
"Than so do I," Grayson insisted.
"Loose your attitude and get up," I said. He groaned but listened. I sat the twins in their respective highchairs and put their breakfast on their trays.
"Momma, I want eggs," Grayson said.
"Eggs it is," I said. I made two dozen scrambled eggs, since Colin and Jack were already here. I know two dozen eggs isn't nearly enough, but they can make their own toast and there's muffins.
That afternoon, we threw a party. Grayson wasn't in school yet, due to his late October birthday. That meant we only had to wait for Jack and Jason to get home from school. Paul was pushing the rest of them to take extra night patrols and sleep during the day, but since Jack and Jason were both only in eighth grade, I insisted they stay in school full time. It's not like Paul would let them fight anyways.
At 3:00, Dad and Sue showed up at the house. They both insisted on taking the day off to be here. Old Quil and Billy weren't far behind them, arriving about 3:05.
"Who are we still waiting on?" My dad asked as we all gathered in the living room. He was carrying Wyatt around. Wyatt refused to try and walk, but Samantha was all about it. Paul had Samantha off somewhere walking around.
"Jack and Jason. They'll be home from school soon, sir," Embry said.
"Shouldn't the rest of you be in school?" My dad asked, shooting glares at his step kids.
"Embry, Leah, and Quil all graduated already," I spoke up.
"So, Seth, Colin, and Brady all just skipped?" He asked.
"Official tribe matters," Billy said. "I pulled them out."
"It's one of those need to know things, gotcha," he said. I rolled my eyes as I heard Jack and Jason come walking in the back door of the house.
The twins got tons of clothes and more books. They each got a new blanket and a couple of toys also. They were happy to just be the center of attention. They were definitely like their dad in that way.
"Shouldn't there be like five more pack members?" My dad asked me as we walked into the kitchen. I was trying to find my wallet to give him money to go get the pizza we ordered.
"Four," I said. "Two were so badly injured that Paul made them stop phasing. One looked the age of his imprint. The other took off three months ago and we haven't heard from him since."
"I see," my dad said. I found my wallet and gave him the money before returning to the living room where the twins were.
"Sammy," Paul cooed, trying to get her to walk to him. She took a few hesitant steps, before falling on her butt.
"Try that with Wyatt," I said.
"Leah, wanna help?" Paul asked. She agreed and they set to work trying to get Wyatt to walk. He could stand by himself just fine, but refused to walk.
The rest of the night was perfect. My life was going great, and I wanted it to stay that way. It would've too, if the Cullen's hadn't come back to town.
