Chapter 58

Sue and Emily agreed to make all the food for the bonfire, much to my relief. Paul and I had to go grocery shopping anyways. Taking Grayson or Paul was hard enough, but having them together while trying to grocery shop was a nightmare. I ended up sending them off to find cookies and chips at different points to get a break.

"Elizabeth Swan," someone said from behind me, causing me to turn around.

"It's Lahote now," I said, meeting the bright blue eyes of Luke, my ex-boyfriend.

"You married that piece of shit?" He asked. "Never guessed your dad to be okay with you dating a gang member, much less marrying one."

"Listen here, you judgemental asshole," I said, losing any and all anger management. "Paul isn't in a gang. Paul is ten times the significant other you'll ever be. You need to mind your own god damn business and keep mine and my husband's names out of your mouth. Am I understood?"

"Yeah, of course," he said, scurrying off. I heard Paul chuckling behind me as he threw the chips into the cart.

"Babe, your alpha female is showing," he laughed. I rolled my eyes and went back to shopping.

After we got home, Paul and I bathed Grayson, although he was just going to get dirty anyways. Paul dressed him in a pair of jeans, a white tee shirt, and a red flannel button up, which he left unbuttoned. I took Grayson to the kitchen to get him a snack and Paul went to shower quickly. When he appeared in the kitchen with us, he was dressed extremely similar to Grayson. The only difference was that his flannel was blue, not red.

"I suppose I'm supposed to dress like that too," I said, rolling my eyes at Paul.

"Give her the puppy eyes, Gray," Paul said before giving me a set of his own.

"Whatever. I'm going to get ready," I said. I changed my hoodie for a white v-neck t-shirt and a pink flannel button up. I plugged my straightener in and started my makeup. Grayson and Paul came running down the hallway to see what I was doing.

"Babe, why are you wearing that crap again?" Paul asked.

"Mommy, you're beautiful," Grayson said.

"Awe, thanks Gray," I said, ruffling his still wet hair.

"Gray, you want Daddy to do your hair?" Paul asked. Grayson nodded, so Paul picked him up and sat Grayson on his half of our vanity. Paul grabbed some spiking gel before spiking Grayson's hair up in a style similar to his own. I laughed at the two as they made faces at each other and I started to pull the straightener through the bottom layer of my hair.

"What time do you wanna leave?" Paul asked, picking Grayson up.

"Ten, fifteen minutes," I said. "Make sure he has a jacket and a drink."

"I know babe," Paul said before walking off to allow me to finish getting ready.

By the time I joined them and pulled on my black Nike sneakers, the two were practically bouncing off the walls. We decided to walk since it was fairly warm for La Push and we weren't going far. Paul ended up putting Grayson on his shoulders and carrying him most of the way.

As we walked up, I noticed that we were one of the first ones to arrive. Sue and Emily were here, which meant Sam and Dad couldn't be far. I saw Old Quil and Billy on the front porch of Billy's house, but otherwise we were the first. Paul took Grayson to see Billy and Quil as I headed over to Emily.

"Anything of interest or concern happen while we were gone?" I asked, stepping into her makeshift kitchen and starting to help.

"You saw Seth imprint, so nothing there. Colin's little brother phased. I guess there's been talk of a nomad leech," she said.

"Nothing they can't handle," I said. Paul called for me, motioning me over to Billy and Old Quil. I walked over as they all stared at me, causing me to wish I could run.

"What's up?" I asked as I got within earshot.

"Billy and Old Quil wanted to see you," Paul said.

"Well, actually Sue was telling about the news you received this morning, and we figured that if we come across any tribal kids in need of a good home, we'll send them your way," Billy explained.

"That's really nice of you," I said. "I'd take those kids in whether I could have my own kids or not."

"We'll keep that in mind," Old Quil said. I heard Bella's old truck pull up and figured Seth and Leah had it.

"Go enjoy your last few hours of freedom," Billy said as Paul took off with Grayson to go play. I went back to helping Sue and Emily, ignoring the guys remarks about the women being the ones cooking.

"Lee," I said as Embry made some sexist remark about women. "Go kick his ass."

"You can't swear around the pups," Emily reminded me. The youngest pack member was now 12. He just recently phased, and was still scared out of his mind.

"I know that," I said softly. This was going to be quite the adjustment. "Where is he?"

"Who?" Emily asked as Sue went to talk to my Dad.

"The pup," I said. "His name is Jack, right?"

"Yeah, he's coming with Colin and Brady," Emily said. "Protect him from the others, Paul too. I've kind of been babying him."

"Yeah, I will. He's still living outside of his mom's house, right?" I asked. She nodded, which meant that by tonight we'd have at least one extra kid with us full time.

"He's especially angry. We don't want him to snap and break his mother's neck. We found out that he and Colin were abused. You've gotta look out for the Littlesea brothers," Emily explained as Kim and Jared showed up, followed by Brady, Colin, and Jack.

"Jack," Emily called, and he happily jogged over.

"What's up, Em?" He asked, hugging her.

"This is Paul's imprint and wife," she said.

"Hi, I'm Lizzie," I said.

"Yeah, the guys told me about you. Said you learned everything from Emily. That means muffins and cookies," he said, hugging me.

"God, you smell like Paul," Jack said, causing me to laugh.

"Yeah, that happens," I said. Emily laughed at him before sending Jack off to play soccer with the boys. The sun was just starting to set, meaning soon we'd be eating and sitting around the bonfire before Sam and Paul would both phase. Sam for the last time, and Paul for the first time as alpha.
