Chapter 57

"Elizabeth, how are you feeling today?" Carlisle asked after completing a round of tests.

"I'm doing a lot better," I said. "The pain isn't nearly as bad today."

"That's good to hear," he said. "And you can walk just fine. I think it might just be from excessive use. I may be from the 16th century, but trust me, I know what happens on honeymoons."

I felt my cheeks flush a deep red as Paul chuckled. He was so open about this stuff, and I didn't want anyone else to ever find out. I swear the boy never got embarrassed about anything.

"So, you think I'll be alright?" I asked.

"Yes, I believe you will be just fine," he said. "I should however warn you that you may not be able to conceive children. The incident may have taken that from you."

"Do you know for sure?" Paul asked as I stood frozen in shock.

"I'm not entirely sure," he said, reaching to touch my arm, comfortingly, like a doctor. Paul grabbed his hand and growled.

"Keep your hands off her," Paul growled the words. "We'll be going. Thank you, for destroying her."

"Stop," I hissed. "You be nice. And, Carlisle, thank you for coming here and checking on me. It means a lot."

My eyes watered as we walked out to the car. I felt the tears threatening to spill as Paul drove us to my dad's house. He stopped out front and literally ran to my side of the car, pulling me into his arms. I took a few deep breaths, composing myself, before taking Paul's hand and heading inside.

"Are you sure you want to do this? I mean, I can go get Grayson by myself. I'll have Sam push back his retirement from the pack a few days," he said, stopping at the front door as Grayson came running to it, followed closely by Seth.

"I'll be alright. Besides I want to talk to Sue before the bonfire tonight," I said, opening the door as Grayson ran into me and Paul.

"Mommy," he said as Paul bent down to scoop him up in his arms. "Daddy."

"Hey, Gray," Paul said, hugging him.

"Mommy," Grayson said, practically climbing out of Paul's arms. "What's wrong Mommy?"

"Nothing, baby," I said, holding him close to me. "I missed you so so much. I love you Grayson Ethan."

"I love you too, Mommy," he said. "Am I going to get a baby brother or sister?"

"What gave you that idea?" Paul asked as I laughed at Grayson.

"Uncle Seth said you guys went away so I could get a baby brother or sister," Grayson said as Seth froze in his spot, his jaw slackening.

"What did you tell our son?" Paul asked, glaring at Seth.

"That's the only part he remembered," Seth said.

"Paul, chill," I said, placing my hand on his arm.

"Yeah, daddy, chill," Grayson said, causing me to try to hold back a laugh and fail.

"Where did that attitude come from, Little Man?" Paul asked.

"Mommy," Grayson said.

"You have spent too much time with Uncle Seth," I said. "Go see Daddy. I need to talk to Sue." I handed Grayson to Paul who took him to the living room to play. I wandered into the kitchen where Sue and Dad were standing talking about something.

"Hey, sweetheart, what's wrong?" Sue asked. Leah, who must've had an over night patrol, walked in the back door looking dead.

"I need to talk to you guys," I said, hopping up and sitting on the counter.

"Are you pregnant?" My dad asked.

"Well, Carlisle said he isn't sure if I can still have kids," I said, my voice dropping so Grayson wouldn't get concerned over it cracking. He's always been a momma's boy.

"When did you find this out?" Sue asked, coming to stand with me along with Dad and Leah, who now seemed fully awake.

"This morning," I said. "My hip had been hurting for a couple of days, but last night it got unbearable, so I called Carlisle. Luckily, he was in town getting stuff done up at their house so they can sell it or something. Anyways, he said my hip should be fine, but I may not be able to have kids."

I knew Seth and Paul were listening from the other room, especially when Paul told Grayson to stay with Seth and came to be with me. He stood beside me with our hands interlaced as I started to tear up again.

"You have to be optimistic," Sue said.

"Yeah, there's still a chance you can have kids," Leah said, hugging me. "Unlike this genetic dead end."

"Don't talk about yourself like that, Lee," I said. "You will imprint and adopt two kids and a rescue kitten. You just wait."

"I'm sure you two are trying to have kids, so just see how it goes," my dad said, not being awkward about the conversation. What got into him? He's always been sort of awkward.

"That's the plan," Paul said, causing me to roll my eyes.

"Go get your son. We have some stuff to do before the bonfire," I said.
