Chapter 54
All too soon, the night came to a close. My dad and Sue we're watching Grayson for the next week so Paul and I could go to Hawaii. We had seriously considered taking Grayson, but decided he wouldn't remember it anyways so it would be okay for him to spend the week with his Grandparents.
"Goodbye, Grayson Ethan," I said, hugging him tightly.
"Goodbye, Mama," he said, returning the hug. He said goodbye to Paul before climbing in the backseat of Sue's car.
"Bye, Seth," I said, hugging my step brother. "If anything happens to my son."
"I'll be dead. I know. Paul already gave me my orders," he said. "Bye, Lizzie. Don't do anything I wouldn't."
"Can it, bro," Leah said. "You won't be getting any for the next 18 plus years."
"Bye, Leah," I said, laughing at her comment and hugging her.
"Bye, sis," she said. "Have fun."
Paul and I said the rest of our goodbyes before heading to our house. We decided that we'd leave tomorrow since everything lasted pretty late, and we had an hour and a half drive to the airport.
"C'mon, babygirl," he said, picking me up bridal style, against my wishes. "It's a tradition that brings a long marriage."
"It's dumb," I said, crossing my arms as he carried me inside.
"It might be dumb," he said, shutting the door and locking it, all without dropping me. "But we need all the help we can get in the long marriage department."
"What are you talking about?" I asked as he carried me towards our bedroom.
"We both come from broken homes. I don't want our kids to have to split the holidays or anything like that," he said.
"Babe," I said, looking into his eyes as he set me down on my feet. "We are not our parents. I know we're meant to be together, and people who are meant to be always find a way."
"I love you, babygirl," he said, pulling me closer to him so I was practically standing on his feet.
"I love you too, babe," I said.
He traced his fingers up my bare arms, causing goose bumps to form. "Let's get this honeymoon started."
The next morning, my alarm clock was blaring music at 5:30. I tried multiple times to shake Paul awake, but nothing was working. I leaned into his body, kissing his lips gently before his eyes finally fluttered open.
"Come on, babe," I said. "We have a flight to catch."
"Our flight isn't until ten," he whined, pulling me closer to his lips.
"Yeah, but we have to leave here by 6:00 so we get there with enough time to get through security," I said, pushing myself out of bed. I got dressed in a pair of athletic shorts and a t-shirt along with one of Paul's hoodies before throwing his shorts and t-shirt at him to get dressed.
"Babygirl," he whined. "Why can't we just have our honeymoon here."
"Because I'm not losing you to the pack during our honeymoon," I said. "If you get up now we'll have enough time to stop at McDonald's for breakfast."
That did the trick. He was up and dressed before I finished putting a messy bun in my hair. He literally bounced down to the front door and pulled his shoes on before running our suitcases out to my nearly empty Jeep.
"Babe, come on," Paul whined as I pulled my Nike sneakers on.
"Paul, calm down," I said, locking the door and walking to the car. I climbed in the passenger seat and barely had time to buckle my seat belt as Paul pulled out of the driveway.
The ride to the airport was filled with crazy covers of cheesy pop songs and lots of random comments. At one point, I realized I was the only one singing, so I looked at Paul to make sure he was okay still. He was pretty much staring at me while he was driving and eating his sandwich.
"Shouldn't you be paying attention to the road?" I asked, causing him to chuckle and look back at the road.
"The road isn't nearly as beautiful as you are," he said, glancing at me just in time to see my cheeks flush red.
"I'm taking that as a compliment," I said before "Shape of You" by Ed Sheeran came on. Paul immediately started singing the song.
Everything was going smoothly. We'd made it through security just fine, and the plane ride was quiet. Paul slept most of the time, claiming the time would go faster if he was asleep. There weren't very many people on the flight, so it was extremely peaceful.
Paul and I were in the back and the others were up towards the front of the plane. I was leaning against Paul's shoulder, drifting in and out of consciousness when someone tapped me on the shoulder, causing me to jump awake. It was a surfer dude, blonde hair with a gorgeous tan. I mean, he was good looking, but he was nothing compared to Paul.
"Can I help you?" I asked, taking my earbuds out.
"I was wondering if I could get your number. We're clearly going to the same place and all," he trailed off.
"Look, I'm flattered and all, but I'm on my way to my honeymoon. My husband and I got married yesterday," I said, hitting Paul just enough to wake him up as I spoke.
"Well, just cause your married doesn't mean you can't call me for a good time," the guy said.
"Look, she told you that she's married," Paul said, now fully awake. "If you don't leave her alone I will rip your pretty boy head of your shoulders."
The guy walked away, and Paul sat back down, shaking slightly. I grabbed his hand and the shaking stopped instantly.
"I love you, Paul Ethan Lahote," I said, quickly kissing his cheek.
"I love you too, Elizabeth Rain Lahote," he said.
