Chapter 37

The next day, three days before the Cullen's were expecting the Volturri, I packed a duffel bag full of clothes, and left for Emily's. While I was driving, my anxiety started getting the better of me. I was freaking myself out over things I have no control over. I just needed to see Paul and I would calm down.

I was greeted at the door by Sam. "What're you doing here?"

"Emily said I could stay while my dad is out of town," I said. "I gotta learn how to deal with these guys somehow."

"Fair enough," he said, moving to allow me into the house. I was almost tackled in a hug from Paul.

"Babe," I said. "I love you too, but we just saw each other yesterday. You don't need to be this drastic."

"I was really anxious for some reason," he said. "You're helping."

"That's probably because I'm anxious," I said. "I don't know why, so don't ask."

Emily and I were making dinner for the 16 wolves now in the pack, along with almost all the imprints, when my phone rang.

"Morgan, what's up?" I asked. Morgan and I had been friends for years, but kind of fell apart when the incident with Paul happened. I had been spending more and more time with the pack, and I couldn't tell her anything.

"Lizzie, I need to talk to someone," she said. "Are you home?"

"No, but give me a second," I said. I pulled my phone away from my mouth before speaking to Emily. "Em, I have a friend who needs to talk. Is it okay if she comes here for a few minutes?"

Emily agreed on the condition that she was out of the house before dinner. Dinner tonight was strictly to discuss the impending battle, and that's why the imprints who don't know about the pack yet aren't coming.

"Hey, Morgan," I said. "Emily said you can come here for a little while, but you can't stay long. She's got guests coming for dinner or something."

"I'm leaving now," she said. "Bye."

The guys showed up within two minutes of me being off the phone. Jared took Quil and Brady and went to pick up Kim, who would also be staying at Emily's until after the battle.

I noticed all the guys tensing when Morgan's car pulled up. "Relax. She's with me."

"Who told you you could have friends over?" Sam asked.

"Your fiance," I said, walking over to the door and opening it as Morgan walked up the steps. She had tears running down her cheeks, and her eyes were extremely blood shot. "What happened?"

"He left me," she said, sobbing again.

"Who?" I asked.

"Luke," she said. I had to focus on keeping my calm as I guided her inside. She was wearing a t-shirt and jeans. Definitely not warm enough for this snowy weather.

"Paul," I said, causing him to stop talking mid-sentence. "In my bag is one of my sweatshirts. Will you get it for me?"

Morgan must've looked up because she started wiping away the tears like crazy. "Liz, why didn't you tell me you hung around such hotties?"

"I like to keep them hidden," I said.

"If you knew them you would understand," Emily said.

"Morgan," I said. "That's Emily and Sam, they're engaged; Paul, he's my boyfriend; Seth and Leah are brother and sister; that group is Brady and a bunch of boys whose names I haven't learned yet; and this guy right here is Embry. Everyone, this is Morgan."

Embry was staring at her with that look that meant he imprinted. I was going to rip his head from his shoulders, but atleast he finally found his soulmate.

Paul threw the sweatshirt at me, right in between their eyes, causing them both to snap out of it.

"Do you feel better Morgan?" I asked, handing her the sweatshirt.

"Yeah, much actually," she said, pulling my hoodie on.

"I'm gonna walk her out to her car," I said. "Then you and I are having a talk." I looked at Embry and he seemed sufficiently scared.

"Can you get me his number?" She asked once we were outside.

"I'll give him yours," I said. "We need to start hanging out again."

"We will. Promise," she said.

"Me too," I said, and she drove off as Jared pulled into the driveway.

The second I was back in the house I looked at Embry and motioned to the living room. Luckily, he knew what I wanted and followed me.

"Look, Emb," I said. "I'm happy for you. I really am, but that girls been through Hell."

"I know," he said. "I saw it when I imprinted on her."

"You better take care of her," I said.

"I wouldn't dream of anything different," he said. He just imprinted on a total stranger, and he was already acting like Sam or Paul or Jared would.

"Good, here's her number."

He thanked me about a thousand times before dinner started. I was just happy to see him as happy as all the other wolves that had imprinted.
