Chapter 31
Two weeks after the wedding, I got a frantic call from Alice saying I needed to get to her house as soon as possible. I told Dad and Sue that I was headed to Alice's, and disappeared off toward the Cullen's place.
Carlisle and Alice met me at the door with anxious looks. Edward was also standing in front of me before I could even say anything.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"You have to talk to Bella," Carlisle said. We started walking up the stairs to a sitting room near Carlisle's office.
"You have to talk her out of this, She won't listen to any of us," Alice said. "This is incredibly dangerous."
I walked into the room where everyone was sitting. Bella was sitting on the couch, watching something, and Rosalie moved to stand between us.
"Bells, what's going on?" I asked.
She told Rosalie to move so we were looking eye-to-eye. "This is none of your business. Why are you even here?"
"I asked her to talk to you," Edward said.
"Will some one please just tell me what's going on?" I asked.
"Bella's pregnant," Edward said. She stood up and she definitely looked about five or six months pregnant.
"You did this to her?" I asked, walking up to Edward. He only nodded in response. I saw him look to Emmett and Jasper for help.
"Do not look at your brothers for help," I hissed. "I can't believe you did that to my sister. What are you waiting for? Take it out."
"I won't let them," Bella said. "This is none of your business. I made a choice."
"Bella, come on. You've been married two weeks, and you weren't showing at the wedding. That means your child is growing at like ten or twelve times the rate of a normal child. I know you're strong Bella, but come on you aren't strong enough to go through everything about pregnancy and childbirth within a month," I said.
"You need to leave," Bella said. "And don't come back."
I looked at Carlisle and Esme for help. "You guys aren't going to let her do this are you?"
"We have no choice, sweetheart," Esme said.
"I mean no disrespect," I said, "but can't you pull some vampire law card."
"Do you really think she'd listen?" Alice asked.
"She'd have to," I said. "There's some like hierarchy in the vampire world, right?" They only nodded. "So, there are laws that have to be followed. Even if the being is only a human hoping to become a vampire." I glared at Bella, knowing full well what her intentions were.
"You don't really believe that do you?" Edward asked.
"You're the one that told her Carlisle wouldn't change someone who had another option. She knows this is her best chance at eliminating other options," I said.
"You're confusing me," Emmett said.
"She knows this will likely bring her to the brink of death. That's the only way to guarantee that she will be changed," I said.
"This is her only chance at motherhood," Rosalie snapped at me.
"Enough," Esme snapped in retaliation to Rose. "This isn't good for Bella."
"That isn't good for Bella," I said. "But, I guess is none of my business. I'll be leaving. Carlisle and Esme, I'm sorry for causing all this trouble." I walked out of the room and back to the front door, followed by Edward, Carlisle, and Esme.
"Thank you for at least trying to talk to her," Edward said once we were outside.
"Your welcome, although I'm not sure why you would think she'd listen to me. She hates me," I said. Edward only nodded, an act that seemed to be extremely common for him, before heading back inside.
"Elizabeth," Esme said softly. She had this natural aura of compassion, sort of like a mother.
I looked at her, waiting for a response. She turned to Carlisle and said something low enough that I didn't hear it. She must've asked for some privacy though, because he headed back inside.
"I know things haven't always been that great between you and your sister," she said once we were alone.
"Tell me about it," I scoffed, kicking one of the rocks across the driveway.
"I just figured that I would offer that if you ever needed someone to talk to I'm always willing to listen," she said. "And, you know that Alice is always dying for some girl time."
"Yeah," I said. "Thank you. That's really kind of you. I might just have to take you up on that offer sometime, especially if I'm supposed to keep my knowledge of Bella's return from the pack."
"If you could," she said. "I'm sure Jake will be here soon though."
"Speak of the devil," I said, nodding in the direction of the driveway. I could hear his bike, which meant she could too.
"You better be going before your father starts asking questions," she said. I nodded, and got in my Jeep, starting it and leaving just as Jake showed up.
