Chapter 25
A few days later, Paul and I were sitting on the couch with my dad when we heard Bella's truck pull in followed by the squeal of the brakes of another car. That had to have been Edward's. My suspicion was confirmed when we heard Jake and Edward yelling at each other. My dad took off running, followed by Paul who hung out in the door way. I got up, and walked over to the doorway to see what was going on. I was almost completely healed, but if I walked too fast or jogged I could still potentially re-tear my hip flexor tendon.
"Easy, guys. Take it down a notch. What's going on?" My dad asked, as he pushed the fighting boys apart.
"I kissed Bella," Jake said, spreading the words out slowly. "And she broke her hand, punching my face. Total misunderstanding."
No one else said anything as Jake headed back to the rez and Edward took Bella back to his house so Dr. Cullen could look at her hand.
A few weeks later was graduation, which was boring even for me. Sitting in front of everyone like that for two hours and just listening to people talk just isn't my cup of tea. All I could think about was that I had to turn down the D2 basketball offers I had, but I was lucky to be walking across the stage instead of being wheeled.
That night was Bella's combined party with the Cullen kids. Dad told me I had to at least make an appearance, and since Paul wasn't allowed at the Cullen's house I was on my own. Luckily, Alice meet me at the door.
"Hello, Lizzie," she said. Over the course of the last couple months Alice and I have actually become quite close.
"Hey, Alice," I said hugging her. We walked into the living room, which Alice had decorated with tons of flowers, and she sent me off to talk to some of the kids from school.
I was in the middle of a conversation when Jake, Quil, and Embry walked in together. I excused myself, and went to talk to Quil and Embry while Jake talked to Bella.
"So you guys can come, but Paul can't?" I asked.
"Yeah, well we're only here because we knew Bella before we phased," Quil said.
"Well, that sucks," I said.
"What're you doing here?" Embry asked. "I thought you hated your sister."
"She hates me," I said. "And Dad made me come. If I had my way, I would be down at Emily's or Sue's place helping make food for tomorrow."
"What's tomorrow?" Quil asked.
"Her grad party, you idiot," Embry said, shoving him jokingly. Alice came bouncing down the stairs, and froze like she was seeing something.
When she finally moved again, she motioned us all into Carlisle's office. They were talking about an army of newborns when I excused myself, saying that Dad was expecting me in a few minutes to help get ready for tomorrow.
When I got home, Paul greeted me at the door. "Thank God you're alright."
"Calm down. I only went because my dad wanted me to," I said.
"Lizzie are you going to come make your card box?" My dad called from the living room. I heard noise coming from the kitchen too, and looked to Paul for an explanation.
"Sue's here helping your dad get stuff ready for tomorrow," he said. I nodded in response as I went into the living room to get to work.
The four of us were up working until midnight, and my dad and I were working again by 7:00. Sue showed up about 7:30 to help us get everything ready. We were having the party in the gym of one of the churches here in town, and we had to start setting up at 10:00 even though party wasn't until 1:00.
