Chapter 22
When I woke up the next morning, Paul was the only one left. The doctor came in with a cup of soft serve ice cream and handed it to me.
"Dr. Cullen," I said, looking up at him. "Thank you."
"So a coyote attack," he said, flipping through my file.
"Yeah, something like that," I said.
"Well, you are on soft food for the next two weeks," he said. "I will personally handle all your follow ups from here on out."
"Thanks," I said.
"So, tell me the truth. It wasn't a coyote attack was it?" He asked. I looked to Paul for help, and he moved so he was standing across the bed from Dr. Cullen.
"It's none of your damn business," Paul spat.
"Knock it off," I said. "It's my fault. I could've just let Bella stand there and get clawed, but I didn't. I shoved my sister out of the way and took the freaking attack myself. I knew the dangers and I did it anyways."
"It was a werewolf attack than?" Dr. Cullen asked.
"It doesn't matter," I said. "I'm going to survive. Now, just tell me how soon I can get out of this hellhole."
"Tomorrow," he said. "You'll have a follow up every two weeks for the next four months. You'll be on soft foods for a while. You'll also have to use a wheelchair. The lowest cut ended up tearing your hip flexor tendon."
"Tomorrow?" I asked. "When's Harry's funeral?"
"Tomorrow," Paul said.
"I will be out of here with enough time to get there," I said.
"Yes ma'am," Dr. Cullen said before leaving.
"We need to talk," Paul said, sitting down with me as I folded my legs and started to eat the ice cream.
"What's up?" I asked.
"I'm not sure it's a good idea we stay together," he said.
"Why so we both can be in pain all the time? So we both can fall into a depression? You've got the pack to pull you out of shit like that, but I don't," I said. "The pack is all the friends I have. Hell, I can't even get a thanks for saving my sister's life."
"If you were clueless about this supernatural stuff her life wouldn't have been in danger to begin with," Paul said.
"Well, maybe my hothead of a boyfriend needs to calm down some," I said.
"That is true," he said, smiling for the first time in days.
"So," I said, offering him some ice cream, which he gladly accepted. "Was it really that painful?"
"It was worse than that," he said. "It was way worse than I was making it out to be. It had me in tears."
"I'd equate that to period cramps," I said.
"There's no way that's what period cramps feel like," Paul said. "I'm like 95% sure I'd still be in tears if they didn't have you on pain meds."
"I'm like 95% sure that you are just a big baby who can't handle pain," I said. "Because that was only as bad a cramps, babe. Just imagine what it'll feel like for you when I give birth."
"Oh, so now we're having kids," he said jokingly.
"Someday in the far off future, yes," I said.
