Chapter 12
It's been a week since Bella was put into the hospital and she was finally awake. I guess she was doing a lot better and would get to come home soon. She is pissed that I left, and that her mom and I got into a fight. My dad however continually reassured me that she'd get over it, but I wasn't so sure.
Paul and I have spent every waking moment of free time together, which would have Emily concerned if we got more alone time than the ten minutes before we both fell asleep. Thanks to temporarily living on the reservation, I keep falling more and more in love with the hot headed ex-player of La Push.
"Em," I said. We were all hanging out on the beach for a cookout, and I decided tonight would be the perfect night to ask Paul to prom.
"I swear to the gods if you say you're nervous again I'm going swat you," she said. We told Paul to be here at 7:00, but the rest of the guys were going to be here at 6:30 to help me out. Sam and Jared both agreed to help me make this perfect, and so far it was going great.
Sam and Jared were busy spelling out the word "prom" with rose petals while I read over the poster again. "I know this is crazy, and a little too much, but it would mean something big if you went to prom with me." The words were right, and the scene was definitely over dramatic, but I felt like something was missing.
"Liz, Paul's truck just pulled up," Sam said. He disappeared further down the beach and left me standing in front of a crazy big poster and lettering.
"What's all this?" Paul asked. "I know this is crazy and a little too much, but it would mean something big if you went to prom with me."
"Well," I said.
"Well, this is awkward because I, um," he stuttered before holding out a box. "I got this to ask you to prom. Your dad told me how important it was to you to get asked to prom."
"Every prince needs a princess," I read. "Be my princess at prom?" I picked up the tiara shaped ring and Paul held out his hand that was wearing a crown shaped ring.
I let out a chuckle at our uncanny ability to do something like this. "I'd love to go to prom with you," I said, and he slid the tiara shaped ring onto my middle finger.
"I'd love to go to prom with you too," he said before leaning down and placing his lips on mine softly. My hands quickly pulled him closer, deepening the kiss.
Too soon, however, I pulled away to get air.
"I think I'm in love with you," I said, softly. Looking into his deep brown eyes, I knew those words were more than true.
"Well, than I guess it's a good thing that I think I'm in love with you too," he said.
"You only think?" I asked.
"Yeah, why?" He asked.
"You gave this to me a couple months before you phased," I said, holding out the piece of notebook paper.
"Ms. Elizabeth Rain Swan, soon to be Lahote," he read while shaking his head. "I'm in love with you and I would never do anything to hurt you. That's a promise. I'll love you forever. The hopeful love of your life, Paul Ethan Lahote."
I giggled at his cringing. "Yeah, and I hated you then."
"Yeah, this is embarrassing," he said, blushing.
"I thought it was cute," I said sweetly. "That was when I started to see you as less of a brother and more of a boyfriend."
"You really fell for this?" He asked throwing the papers.
"Yes, I really fell for your stupid cheesy love letter," I said.
"You are a hopeless romantic, and I think it's cute," he said, kissing me again.
The rest of the night was too perfect to be true. I repeatedly thought I was dreaming, so I had to pinch myself to reassure me that I wasn't.
