Chapter 11

The next day, Bella was still out. Dr. Cullen said that was due to the blood loss. Paul tried to help me avoid Renee as much as possible, but that was pretty difficult given the circumstances. Dad, however, thought it would be best for Paul and I to head back to La Push. Emily already agreed that I could stay with her until my dad got back, which meant I'd be living an extra fifteen miles from the school for probably the next two weeks. I decided it'd be a good idea to write Bella a note telling her what happened.

   Bella,
I'm really sorry I couldn't stay any longer, but some stuff went down. I'm sure Renee will tell you her side of things but this is how I see it. She tried to walk right back into my life like she hadn't abandoned me years ago, and I wasn't having any part in that. I'm sure you'll hate me even more now, but I just figured you might try to see things from my perspective. I'm heading back to La Push with Paul and I figured that you should know that I'm really sorry I couldn't stay. You know how Dad gets about school. Get better soon so you don't miss prom.
   -love you, Lizzie

That night, Paul and I met Sam and Jared at the Seattle airport. They decided neither of us was in condition to be driving. Being back in the overcast rainy weather of the Olympic peninsula was more comforting than one could ever imagine.

"You have twenty minutes," Sam said pulling up in front of my house. I had to pack everything I'd need to temporarily move in with Sam and Emily. Sam insisted I stay with them so he could keep an eye on me. None of them would be able to stand it if Paul's imprint got hurt, especially because he'd be flying off the handle even more so than before.

I was throwing my clothes into my bag when I came across something I'd put in my dresser a while ago and forgotten about. I pocketed the folded up papers and headed outside since everything was already in my duffle bag. I climbed into the car with Sam and took the papers from my pocket so they wouldn't get hurt.

"What's that?" Sam asked.

"Paul gave this to me a couple months before he phased. I was only 14 at the time, and I've had it ever since," I said. Sam didn't push the subject any further as he drove me back to the reservation.

"Em," I called, smelling whatever she was cooking from the door.

"What's up?" She asked as I walked into the kitchen.

"Wanna do me a favor?" I asked.

"What?" She responded. She's always been like the other sister I never got, so she's used to me doing things like showing up to ask for things.

"Convince Sam to give Paul May 20 off so he can go to prom with me," I said.

"I'll do my best," she said, looking over my shoulder to where I'm sure Sam was standing.
