Chapter 1
Again, say it with me this time. NOT. HISTORICALLY. ACCURATE.
Eliza POV:
I ran as fast as I could, coughing again. "W-wait up Pip! Angie!" They slowed down as I began to wheeze. "Crap! Get Momma!" Angie ran inside and Pip picked me up and carried me to the porch. Momma ran out, worry etched on her face. "I think she's sick again." Momma sighed, and picked me up. This was a common occurrence, as I always got sick. I'm only 6, but I've been sick most of my life. (I know she was 2 when Phillip died, just bare with me. This is based on a comment thread I was in/made)
I heard my parents arguing in my daddy's office, probably about money for the doctor. I focused, and was able to make out their words. "-iza, the doctor costs so much, why don't you just send her to stay with Angelica for a while? Maybe its the air. London might be better for her lungs." "Alexander, we are not sending our daughter across the sea! I don't care how much it costs, we are curing her. God. She reminds me of you, so stubborn." I pretended to fall asleep as I saw Momma turn the corner. "Goodnight, Eliza. Sleep well." I felt her kiss my forehead and walk out of my room, as I slowly fell asleep.
I woke up the next morning by a knock on the door. I heard talking downstairs, then my parents came upstairs with the doctor. "Hi, Miss Eliza. How are you feeling?" He smiled as he took out his notebook filled with diseases and what cause them and what cure them. "Not good. My head hurts, and it's kinda hard to breathe, and that's it." He nodded, looking through his book. "Well, you might have a cold. It's quite common, and the pollen around might be triggering some allergies. I suggest plenty of rest, and stay away from flowering plants."
5 years later
Papa decided to send me off to London 5 years ago, and now I'm 11. Aunt Angelica has been teaching me to read and write, as well as be a proper lady. She says I take after Momma, by being so proper and shy, as well as a hopeless romantic. She says I also act like my Aunt Peggy, by being sassy when a man talks down to me as if I'm not important. "Now, Eliza, remember what I told you. Keep your chin up, maintain eye contact, and don't let a man treat you like you don't matter." She had given me an old pink dress of hers, as pink was my color in the family. We all were color coded, like my Aunts and Momma, because there are 8 of us. I'm pink, Pip is purple, Angie is orange, AJ is indigo, James is yellow, Will is red, Little Phillip is teal, and John is a royal blue.
It was my 11 birthday, so Aunt Angelica would take me into town for the day. "Come on Aunt Angelica! We're gonna be late!" She laughed "late for what, Eliza?" "Late for...... town!" She picked up her basket and we finally left. Uncle John would probably be home from work late, so we could stay out later.
We finally made it to town, and decided to walk around for a while and find some small trinkets to mess around with. "Ooh! Aunt Angelica, look at this pretty ring!" It was a small silver ring with a small green jewel in the middle. "Here, how about you buy it, as a gift?" I squealed and gave her a hug. "Thank you, Aunt Angelica."
"So, theoretically speaking, if a watermelon and an egg were dropped at the same height and the same time, they would hit the ground at the same time?" "Correct. And who designed this experiment?" "Sir Isaac Newton." Suddenly there was a knock at the door. "Enter." Uncle John walked in, clearly excited. "Where's my favorite birthday girl?" I jumped up and hugged him and he kissed his wife on the cheek. "How was work, Uncle John?" He smiled. "Fun as usual. However, people are starting to be let go. But don't worry, I'm sure it's nothing."
5 years later
"Aunt Angie, do you need help?" I struggled to hold in my laughter as she tried to get my cousins under control. "Yes please." I laughed, and walked over to Catharine. "Hey Cathy, how about you and I go finish packing so we can leave? Don't you wanna go to America?" She smiled and nodded, running up the stairs. "Now, Phillip and Phillip Schuyler. You two, sit." They both stopped bickering and sat down at the table. "You two need to set a better example for your sister. Honestly. Once we get to America, you'll need to protect her from" I pretended to gasp and shuddered "boys." They gasped and looked at each other. "That's right. They'll be lining up one by one to try and marry her. Now, behave and pack your bags." They nodded and ran off, discussing how they would keep boys away.
"Thank you, Liza. That was very helpful." I laughed and hugged my aunt, holding her close. "Anytime, Auntie. Besides, I'm going to miss you since I'm going back home to my family." I wiped a tear away as my aunt hugged me again. "Don't worry. We'll be close. Besides, don't you miss Pip and little Angie?" I nodded. They were only 2 years older than me, meaning they're both now 18, while I'm 16. I sighed, looking around. "It's hard to believe that for the past decade I've lived in London."
2 weeks later
We finally made it to America, after 2 weeks on a ship. I had to take a separate carriage from my aunt, as there wasn't much room and I was going a different direction. "Goodbye, everyone!" I waved goodbye one last time, and stepped into the carriage to home.
The carriage stopped, and I stepped out, seeing my old home. I heard people talking inside, and quickly ran to the door, knocking. "Just a moment!" I straightened my pink dress even more, and fixed the matching bow in my hair. The door finally opened, and I saw Angie. She gasped," Eliza?" I nodded, and wrapped her in a hug, crying. She hugged back, squeezing the life out of me. "Oh, my little sister, you've grown up so beautifully!" I laughed, pulling back. "As have you, Angie." "Ooh, and an accent! Boys will be lining up to court you."
