Chapter 5: Just a Walk
At the first ray of dawn I got out of bed and slipped on a sweatshirt. Then I put my hair into a ponytail and walked down the stairs. It was still dark in the house so I tripped slightly on one step. Once I had made it to the kitchen, I sat down at the table and waited for at least a hour. At one point the silence got to me so much that I started pacing just so that I could hear the sound of my own footsteps.
Once I heard Hermione's voice at the top of the stairs telling them they could go downstairs I got in position at the table and just sat there staring. When they got into the kitchen I waited a second as they all stopped dead in their tracks as they saw me then I turned to them.
"Hello," I said monotonously.
Hermione cleared her throat.
"Why are you awake so early?" I asked mostly Ron and Harry.
"You know don't you Elizabeth," mumbled Harry.
"That you were going to tell the members of the Order that were here for breakfast this morning about what my dream was and completely break my trust about it? Yes, I think I knew vaguely of that," I said bitterly as I looked at all of their guilty faces.
"Elizabeth-" Harry began.
"No Harry, you don't get to explain yourself. You were going to do the one thing you told me you wouldn't and, oh yeah- what was that promise you made me yesterday that you never kept about me getting updates about Voldemort? Quite honestly I'm agreeing with one of the things Sirius's mother calls us at times for you can you guess which one?"
They looked at each other:
"Dishonorable-" I said.
"Tell them if you want. I don't care anymore, Fred and George and Ginny never would have tried to tell the Order,"
Hermione looked upset, Ron shocked, and Harry looked very distraught. I got up from the chair pushed it back in and started going for the door when I was grabbed by the wrist from Harry.
"Why do all of you feel the need to grab me by the wrist when you want me to wait. Sirius, Lupin, Harry, Ron, Hermione-" I said angrily as I stamped on between them at the door way.
"Elizabeth listen-" I tried to move again. "ELIZABETH-" he said through gritted teeth as he grabbed my shoulders and made me stand still.
"We won't tell anyone under one condition," said Hermione.
"And what's that?" I asked as I tried to shake loose from Harry's grip making him hold me tighter around my shoulders.
"You tell us next time you have one of those dreams and you tell us what happened. We won't say anything today but if you have another we might not be able to keep that promise,"
"Fine-" I say "agreed-" I try to shake loose from Harry's grip but he's still staring at me and gripping my shoulders.
"Please let me go Harry," I say sticking a fake smile on my face. He dropped his hands from my shoulders and then pushed me back into the chair I had sat in. He then sat down across from me followed by Hermione and Ron.
"Now what?" I ask exasperated.
"We'd better do something if we don't want my mum getting suspicious," mumbled Ron. Hermione looked nervous.
I put on a tea kettle and started to boil water on the fire like we had to for every other meal.
"Harry-" I asked. "Does your scar still hurt from yesterday?" I asked generally scared for him.
"No, not from yesterday. I doesn't really ever stop hurting anymore," he responded.
Everyone eventually made it to the table and we ate breakfast. The day's dragged on. We went to Diagon Alley eventually and I just kept to my old school things but picked up a new good quill, and also some ink bottles. Harry and I replaced our yearly money supplies.
One day we were sitting down to dinner with a lot of members of the Order after almost the every nights meeting. So, like always, Tonks was being clumsy but now school was coming the next day. I was sitting when I suddenly felt very cold then warm and cold again. My hand started to shake and then I saw the room start to get dark...
"Uh- ex-excuse me for a m-moment," and I got up and shakily ran out of the kitchen. I tried to make it to the downstairs bathroom but as I made it to the hall I fell and the world turned black...
"Tom stop following me... Your starting to scare me," I said quietly as I walked across the Hogwarts grounds.
"But Ellie, I love you," said Tom.
"No Tom, you can't love me because you don't know me. You've been following me for weeks. I'm going to have to go to Dumbledore if it doesn't stop soon," I said as I stopped walking and looked at Tom.
"Ellie, I want to show you something... follow me," he said.
I was nervous but decided to follow him.
"Tom where are we?" I asked as I looked around at a bunch of trees.
"The Forbidden Forest bench," said Tim as he gestured for me to sit next to him on a tree branch.
"Tom which way is back to school grounds... We're not supposed to be here,"
"Imperious!"
I sat next to Tom. But I couldn't control what I did anymore. He stopped the curse and I ran away crying "What's wrong with you?" towards the school.
Fog filled the dream.
Breathing heavily and sweat rolling down my face I woke up to see I was in the same spot that I had fallen. Around me there were only 3 people, Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
"Eliza?" Said Hermione.
"What?" I said trying to play off the fact that I had just had a nightmare and was doused in sweat and shaking uncontrollably.
"Let's get her out of here my mum'll be looking to see why we all left soon," said Ron quietly.
They all got up and I tried but my legs were weak and shaking so I ended up getting Harry to help me keep my balance. Hermione looked concerned beyond measure. Ron looked at Harry and I as if this sort of thing ran in our family.
We walked up the stairs and then up a second flight to a floor I had never been to before. It was a attic full of antiques. I sat down on a old suitcase. My breathing was till rapid, my legs still shaking and I was still confused. I was soaking and my shirt was sort of sticking to me from the cold sweat I had produced during the dream attack.
I instantly told them the dream.
"So, why were you asking Tom this time to stop stalking you? He already had power over you in the last dream," asked Hermione deep in thought again.
"I think this dream came before the others because Tom looked younger... It's odd don't you think?" I said as I looked at a old lamp.
"Not really... I mean when you have a normal dream they don't always have a correct order do they?" said Hermione.
"Eliza you do know we have to tell someone-" started Harry.
"No-" I cut him off. "There are more important things for them to worry about then me and these strange dreams not only that but you guys promised me you wouldn't unless you had to. I'm not getting hurt am I?" I asked knowing the answer was no.
"Well-" started Ron.
"What?" I said suddenly.
"It's just you kind of were. You see, you were on the hard ground twitching uncontrollably and then at the end you were muttering 'no Tom, you can't do this' and then you kicked your leg up straight and it didn't go down for a while longer. So... you did get slightly hurt,"
"Well I feel fine alright? It's fine. Now what are we going to do about Mrs. Weasley she must be suspicious now that we all left. We can tell her we were trying to... Um-" I said.
"We were helping you because you fell on your way up the stairs to the bathroom and we heard you and they didn't," said Ron.
"Alright but we'd better get back down there before they notice were up he-" Hermione said as we heard the trap door open. We all looked at each other nervously and then stared into our little circle. Hermione mouthed to me "your shirt" and threw me her sweater.
"What are you doing up here Molly is worried sick about you all," said Lupin.
"Sorry Professor Lupin," I said with my head hanging low so that he hopefully wouldn't see the sweat leaking through Hermione's sweater.
"Elizabeth why do you look like you just got doused in ice water?" He asked eyeing me suspiciously.
"Be-because she fell on the stairs," said Harry.
"Yeah and then she passed out and we heard her so we went to find her and threw water on her to wake her up," said Hermione.
"Okay... well get downstairs like I said... Molly had been off the wall"said Lupin. We followed him down to the hall and into the living room. I separated from the rest of the group listening to the radio and went to find Mrs. Weasley.
"Mrs. Weasley?" I said as I tapped her on the shoulder.
"What is it dear? Oh my, we were so worried about you when you ran off at dinner Remus told me you fell on the stairs are you okay?"
"Oh, yes I'm fine but... um- you see... I was just.. uh- wondering could I please go for a quick walk. I know we're not allowed to leave headquarters like that but Mrs. Weasley I feel like I need fresh air so badly. Please?" I added because she seemed like she did not want to say yes. I stared at her practically begging her with my eyes.
"Very well," she sighed. " but can someone go with you Eliza dear I'm terribly worried you know it's not safe out there alone these times," she said.
"I'd prefer not Mrs. Weasley, besides, no one cares about me, they care about the boy who lived. Harry is the one who needs to worry not me nobody even knows we're related and those who do are sworn to secrecy. I just really need to Mrs. Weasley," I said.
"Oh, alright-" said Mrs Weasley reluctantly. "You'd better be back before the rain. Around the corner that's it Elizabeth... understood?"
"Thank you so much Mrs. Weasley and of course only around the block. I'll keep my wand on me," and with that I left Mrs Weasley crossed through the living room and I went to the front door. Before anyone got to ask what I was doing I had gotten into the porch. The fresh night air felt amazing since I hadn't felt it since Diagon Alley.
I walked down the porch and before I knew it I was at the corner of Grimmuland Place. I went around the block but the funny thing was at the next block I saw that two men in all black started to follow me. The rain started to fall so, I started to run back to headquarters. The men started to quicken their pace. For some reason I felt something was off about them. Like they knew something about me. I glanced back at them occasionally and they would still stare at me and walk my way. When I was near 12 Grimmuland Place I grew worried because I saw the men talking amongst themselves.
Then, they stuck their hands in their pocket and I saw that they were trying to grab something long and thin... Like wands. I started to sprint home but not before they had their wands pointed towards me.
"Stupefy" yelled the shorter man on the left hand side. It missed me by inches so I ran forward and got out my own wand.
"Everte Statum" I yelled running from headquarters. One of the men flew backwards through the air. The other still came running towards me.
"Immobulus," I screamed at the other right hand taller man. He froze in place but the other man was now back up and running.
"Petrificus Totalus!" Screamed the man.
"Protego" I shouted as the shield bounced the petrifying charm away.
"Cursed brat!" Shouted the man as he ducked from the deflecting spell.
"Locomotor Mortis!" I shouted. The mans legs were pulled together and he fell cursing.
"Impervious!" I muttered as I pointed my wand at my face and the rain was repelled from it so I could see as the rain was now falling in buckets.
I ran as far as I could back down the street towards 12 Grimmuland Place but only made it to 16 when the man in the leg binding curse got back up.
"Lacarnum Inflamarae" I shouted back at the man as a small ball of fire flew to him and got on his shirt but he quickly patted it out... though his shirt was burned. It him to slow down in which time while he was distracted I tried thinking of a shielding charm that wouldn't be noticeable.
"Periculum, periculum, periculum!" I shouted and three red sparks shot out of the top of my wand up into the air.
"Expelliamus, stupefy" yelled the man slowing down from being out of breath. I blocked these with "protego" again. I ran and hid behind three small metal trashcans.
