Chapter 26: Aftermath

Harry got up from the ground. I reached my hand up to my forehead and felt the blood on my fingers. I wiped the blood on my leg and walked over to Hagrid.

"We should probably put your house out," said Harry quietly.

"The charm is aguamenti-" I said. I tear sprang to my eye but I quickly wiped it away as reality struck me.

With Harry Hagrid and I all putting out the fire it was out in a few minutes.

"It's not so bad," said Hagrid. "Nothing Dumbledore won't be able to put right-" Harry went silent and I stopped moving.

"Hagrid..." Started Harry.

"I was trying some-"

"Hagrid..." I said this time.

"What even happened. I just saw some death eaters running down from the castle but what the ruddy hell was Snape doing with them? He was running after them- chasing them-" Hagrid said gruffly.

"He..." Harry cleared his throat. Another tear sprang from my eye. "He killed-"

"He killed someone? What are you on about Harry?"

"Dumbledore," I said quietly.

"Snape killed Dumbledore-" said Harry.

"Dumbledore what, Harry?"

"He's dead. Snape killed him," Harry said.

"Don't say that- Snape kill Dumbledore? Don't be stupid what made you say that?" Hagrid said.

"Saw it happen-" said Harry.

"You couldn't have-"

"We saw it Hagrid," I said.

"What must have happened was Dumbledore must have told Snape to go with those death eaters. Got to keep his cover. We'd better get you two back up to school," said Hagrid. We got up and started back towards school.

As we walked towards the big doors people began to walk towards where Dumbledores body most likely laid. I was shaking still. Harry put his left arm around my shoulders supportively but I could feel him also shaking still.

"What are they looking at?" Said Hagrid. "What's that in the grass?" He added slowly. "See it? Right under the tower, blimey- you don't think someone got thrown off-"

There was a gap in the group of people surrounding  the body at the foot of the tower. Harry Hagrid and myself walked slowly past the crowd of murmuring people to the front of it.

Hagrid let out a moan of shock. I stood staring at Dumbledores dead body that laid on the ground in front of me. A tear formed in my eye and I let it fall silently. Dumbledore looked as though he could be sleeping... But I knew better than to think that. Harry reached down and straighter Dumbledores half moon slept scores on his nose. I wiped a trickle of blood from his mouth on my dress.

Harry suddenly reached into Dumbledores pocket after a minute or so and pulled out a large locket. He clicked it open in his hand and looked at it suspiciously. I also looked at it. Inside of the locket was a small piece of crumpled paper. From the light of wands that were now lit behind Harry and I I looked over And read the piece of parchment in Harrys hand.

To the dark lord-
I know I will be dead long before you read this. But I want you to know it was I who discovered your secret. I have stolen the real Horcrux and intend to destroy it as soon as I can. I face death in the hope that when you meet your match you will be mortal once again.
-RAB

Harry silently crumpled the paper in hiss and as Fang the dog began to howl. Tears flowed from his eyes. I began to cry to. I sat down next to Dumbledore and Harry and hugged Harry. Many more wands were lit around us now. I couldn't even form the words to light mine though I tried with a few feeble attempts.

"Come here Harry-" said Hagrid.

"No"

"You can't stay here Harry.... Come on, now..." Hagrid said.

"No-"
I looked up and saw Ginny coming towards Harry. She lifted him up and together in first of me they walked into the castle. I walked very slowly with no one. Many sobs pierced the cool night air.

As I walked behind Harry and Ginny I caught up to them slowly.

"We're going to the hospital wing-" she said as we stepped on many Gryffindor rubies that had fallen from the hourglass earlier.

"I'm not hurt-" said Harry.

"Everyone is- Mcgonagals orders. Ron Hermione Lupin, everyone," she said.

"Ginny who else it dead?" Harry asked. I but my lip so hard that it caused a cut I had gotten on it earlier to start bleeding again.

"Don't worry, none of us-" she responded.

"But the dark mark- Malfoy said he stepped over a body-"

"He stepped over Bill-" I gasped and stopped in my tracks while crying still. "-but it's alright, he's alive," said Ginny soothingly. She placed a hand on my shoulder.

"Are you sure?" Harry asked. Something about her voice was off in the way she said it.

"Of course I'm sure, he's a bit of a mess- that's all. Greyback attacked him. Madame Pomfrey says he won't- he won't lol I the same anymore..." He voice shook a little.

"No," I said as my lower lip trembled. I tasted blood in my mouth.

"We don't really know what the after affects will be- I mean, Greyback being a werewolf and all, but not transformed at the time-"

"But he others- there were bodies on the ground," Harry said.

"Neville and Professor Flitwick are both hurt, but Madam Pomfrey says they'll be all right. And a Death Eater's dead, he got hit by a Killing Curse that huge blond one was firing off everywhere — Harry, if we hadn't had your Felix potion, I think we'd all have been killed, but everything seemed to just miss us —"

"Neville?" I interrupted.

"He's okay," Ginny said surely.

As the doors to the hospital wing swung open many beds were full of people. Hermione ran up to Harry and I and hugged us both.

"Are you alright?" Lupin asked us anxiously.

"I'm alright- how's Bill?" Said Harry.

No one answered the question.

"Fine- how is Bill?" I asked.

I pushed past the group of people surrounding a bed and saw the unrecognizable face of Bill Weasley. Madame Pomfrey was dabbing a thick ointment onto his wounds.

"Can't you fix them with a charm or something?" Asked Harry as he stood beside me.

"No charms will work on these-" she responded . I yet again wiped some blood that was dripping from the top of my forehead down my face.

Ron stood beside me. His arm was up against mine and mine against Harrys. "But he wasn't bitten on a full moon," he said. My eyes welled with tears slightly but I wiped them away quickly without much notice. "Greyback wasn't transformed so surely- he won't be a- a real-" we all looked towards Lupin.

"No, I don't think that Bill will be a true werewolf," he said. I breathed a sigh of relief. "But that doesn't mean that there won't be some contamination. Those are cursed wounds. They are unlikely to ever heal fully, and- Bill might have some wolffish characteristics from now on,"

"Dumbledore might know something though? Where is he?" Ron asked. Sadness and dread filled my chest instantly as I heard this. I hugged Harry.

"Ron-" I started but I choked up.

"Ron- Dumbledores dead," said Ginny.

"No!" Shouted Lupin. He looked from Harry Ginny and me and then sat in a chair next to Bills bed. Lupin put his hands over his face and started crying. I walked over towards Tonks who seemed upset.

"How did he die?" She asked quietly.

"Snape killed him-" said Harry instantly. "We were there-" he gestured to me and him. I put a hand on her shoulder. "Dumbledore and I arrived back at the astronomy tower because that's where the mark was-" I interjected.

"I followed Draco-" most people looked at me very confused by that sentence. I didn't look at any of them though.

"Dumbledore was ill, he was weak... Then, I think he realized it was a trap because we heard footsteps coming up the steps. He immobilized me..." Harry said. Tears were falling down my face slowly as I recalled the events from barely a hour ago. "I was under the invisibility cloak when Malfoy came through the door and disarmed him-"

Hermione gasped and covered her mouth, Ron groaned, Luna's mouth trembled.

"-more death eaters arrived and I his on the platform with Harry under the telescope with Harry. S-" I trailed off.

"Snape arrived and he did it. The AVADA KEDAVRA," Harry finished.

Madame Pomfrey burst into tears. Ginny shushed her.

"Shh! Listen!" In the distance there was a song of a Pheonix. It was a chilling, terrible, beautiful tune. Fawkes the Pheonix was singing the grief inside of everyone on this terrible, historical night.

Everyone listened to this song silently until Mcgonagal came into the room with small gashes in her face and her robes ripped. At that moment my scar burned and I winced slightly. Thankfully, nobody noticed.

"Molly and Arthur are in their way," she said. Everybody suddenly seemed to wake up from the strange trance that the Pheonix had us in. "What happened?" Asked Mcgonagal looking from Harry and I. "Hagrid says that you were with Dumbledore when he- when it happened. He says professor Snape was involved-" this time I didn't wait a moment.

"Snape killed Dumbledore-" everybody seemed to look at me. My eyes once again fogged over.

McGonagallg sat down on a chair in disbelief.

"Snape? We all wondered... But he trusted Snape...always...Snape...I can't believe it..."

"Snape was a highly skilled occlumen," said Lupin flatly. I nodded slightly in agreement while wiping the last of my tears away. "We always knew that-"

"But Dumbledore swore he was on our side," whispered Tonks. "I always thought Dumbledore must know something about Snape that we-"

"He always hinted that he had an ironclad reason for trusting Snape," muttered Professor McGonagall, her eyes were now leaking small tears.  "I mean . . . with Snape's history . . . of course people were bound to wonder . . . but Dumbledore told me explicitly that Snape's repentance was absolutely genuine. . . . Wouldn't hear a word against him!"

"I'd love to know what Snape told him to convince him," said Tonks.

"I know," said Harry, and they all turned to look at him. "Snape passed Voldemort the information that made Voldemort hunt down my mum and dad. Then Snape told Dumbledore he hadn't realized what he was doing, he was really sorry he'd done it, sorry that they were dead. Everybody stared at him.

"And Dumbledore believed that?" said Lupin incredulously. "Dumbledore believed Snape was sorry James was dead? Snape hated James. . . ."

"And he didn't think my mother was worth a damn either," said Harry, "because she was Muggle-born. . . . 'Mudblood,' he called her. . . ."

I shuddered.

"This is all my fault," said Professor McGonagall suddenly. She looked disoriented, twisting her wet handkerchief in her hands. "My fault. I sent Filius to fetch Snape tonight, I actually sent for him to come and help us! If I hadn't alerted Snape to what was going on, he might never have joined forces with the Death Eaters. I don't think he knew they were there before Filius told him, I don't think he knew they were coming."

"It isn't your fault, Minerva," said Lupin firmly. "We all wanted more help, we were glad to think Snape was on his way. . . ."

"So when he arrived at the fight, he joined in on the Death Eaters' side?" Asked Harry. I walked over towards him.

"I don't know exactly how it happened," said Professor McGonagall distractedly. "It's all so confusing. . . . Dumbledore had told us that he would be leaving the school for a few hours and that we were to patrol the corridors just in case . . . Remus, Bill, and Nymphadora were to join us . . . and so we patrolled. All seemed quiet. Every secret passageway out of the school was covered. We knew nobody could fly in. There were powerful enchantments on every entrance into the castle. I still don't know how the Death Eaters can possibly have entered. . . ."

"I do," said Harry, and he explained, briefly, about the pair of Vanishing Cabinets and the magical pathway they formed. "So they got in through the Room of Requirement." It was quiet for a moment.

"I messed up, Harry," said Ron bleakly. "We did like you told us: We checked the Marauder's Map and we couldn't see Malfoy on it, so we thought he must be in the Room of Requirement, so me, Ginny, and Neville went to keep watch on it . . . but Malfoy got past us."

"He came out of the room about an hour after we started keeping watch," said Ginny. "He was on his own, clutching that awful shriveled arm —"

"His Hand of Glory," said Ron. "Gives light only to the holder, remember?"

"Anyway," Ginny went on, "he must have been checking whether the coast was clear to let the Death Eaters out, because the moment he saw us he threw something into the air and it all went pitch-black —"

"— Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder," said Ron bitterly. "Fred and George's. I'm going to be having a word with them about who they let buy their products."

"We tried everything, Lumos, Incendio," said Ginny. "Nothing would penetrate the darkness; all we could do was grope our way out of the corridor again, and meanwhile we could hear people rushing past us. Obviously Malfoy could see because of that hand thing and was guiding them, but we didn't dare use any curses or anything in case we hit each other, and by the time we'd reached a corridor that was light, they'd gone."

"I-" I stuttered."I was in the room- I-I saw it happen. B-but it wasn't dark. There was n-no darkness... No p-people,"

"You were in there?" Asked Lupin. Most people looked at me intently.

"Yes-" I said with very little confidence. "I- Dumbledore sent me..."

"We will talk about that later-" said Lupin kindly but sternly. It was a little unsettling.

"Luckily," said Lupin hoarsely, "Ron, Ginny, and Neville ran into us almost immediately and told us what had happened. We found the Death Eaters minutes later, heading in the direction of the Astronomy Tower. Malfoy obviously hadn't expected more people to be on the watch; he seemed to have exhausted his supply of Darkness Powder, at any rate. A fight broke out, they scattered and we gave chase. One of them, Gibbon, broke away and headed up the tower stairs —"

"To set off the Mark?" asked Harry.

"He must have done, yes, they must have arranged that before they left the Room of Requirement," said Lupin. "But I don't think-"

"No," I corrected him. "I saw Bellatrix set off the mark earlier," I said. Lupin laughed hoarsely slightly.

"She set off a charm to allow the dark mark to be able to go over the building but he actually set it off... She must have left before the end somehow-" Lupin said.

"Oh..." I said.

"Wait, So if Ron was watching the Room of Requirement with Ginny and Neville," said Harry, turning to Hermione, "were you — ?"

"Outside Snape's office, yes," whispered Hermione, her eyes sparkling with tears, "with Luna. We hung around for ages outside it and nothing happened. . . . We didn't know what was going on upstairs, Ron had taken the map. . . . It was nearly midnight when Professor Flitwick came sprinting down into the dungeons. He was shouting about Death Eaters in the castle, I don't think he really registered that Luna and I were there at all, he just burst his way into Snape's office and we heard him saying that Snape had to go back with him and help and then we heard a loud thump and Snape came hurtling out of his room and he saw us and — and —"

"What?" Harry urged her.

"I was so stupid, Harry!" said Hermione in a high-pitched whisper. "He said Professor Flitwick had collapsed and that we should go and take care of him while he — while he went to help fight the Death Eaters —" She covered her face in shame and continued to talk into her fingers, so that her voice was muffled. "We went into his office to see if we could help Professor Flitwick and found him unconscious on the floor . . . and oh, it's so obvious now, Snape must have Stupefied Flitwick, but we didn't realize, Harry, we didn't realize, we just let Snape go!"

"It's not your fault," said Lupin firmly.

"Hermione, had you not obeyed Snape and got out of the way, he probably would have killed you and Luna."

"So then he came upstairs," said Harry. "and he found the place where you were all fighting. . . ."

"We were in trouble, we were losing," said Tonks in a low voice. "Gibbon was down, but the rest of the Death Eaters seemed ready to fight to the death. Neville had been hurt, Bill had been savaged by Greyback . . . It was all dark . . . curses flying everywhere . . . The Malfoy boy had vanished, he must have slipped past, up the stairs . . . then more of them ran after him, but one of them blocked the stair behind them with some kind of curse. . . . Neville ran at it and got thrown up into the air —"

"None of us could break through," said Ron, "and that massive Death Eater was still firing off jinxes all over the place, they were bouncing off the walls and barely missing us. . . ."

"And then Snape was there," said Tonks, "and then he wasn't —"

"I saw him running toward us, but that huge Death Eater's jinx just missed me right afterward and I ducked and lost track of things," said Ginny.

"I saw him run straight through the cursed barrier as though it wasn't there," said Lupin.

"I tried to follow him, but was thrown back just like Neville. . . ."

"He must have known a spell we didn't," whispered McGonagall. "After all — he was the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. . . . I just assumed that he was in a hurry to chase after the Death Eaters who'd escaped up to the tower. . . ."

"He was," said Harry savagely, "but to help them, not to stop them . . . and I'll bet you had to have a Dark Mark to get through that barrier — so what happened when he came back down?"

"That's why-" I said trailing off. Lupin nodded at me.

"Well, the big Death Eater had just fired off a hex that caused half the ceiling to fall in, and also broke the curse blocking the stairs," said Lupin. "We all ran forward — those of us who were still standing anyway — and then Snape and the boy emerged out of the dust — obviously, none of us attacked them —"

"We just let them pass," said Tonks in a hollow voice. "We thought they were being chased by the Death Eaters — and next thing, the other Death Eaters and Greyback were back and we were fighting again — I thought I heard Snape shout something, but I don't know what —"

"He shouted, 'It's over,'" said Harry. "He'd done what he'd meant to do."

We all fell silent. Fawkes's song was still echoing over the dark grounds outside.
The doors of the hospital wing burst open, making them all jump: Mr. and Mrs. Weasley were striding up the ward, Fleur just behind them, she looked terrified.

"Molly — Arthur —" said Professor McGonagall, jumping up and hurrying to greet them. "I am so sorry —"

"Bill," whispered Mrs. Weasley, darting past Professor McGonagall as she caught sight of Bill's mangled face. "Oh, Bill !"

Lupin and Tonks had got up hastily and retreated so that Mr. and Mrs. Weasley could get nearer to the bed. Mrs. Weasley bent over and kissed her sons bloody forehead lovingly.

"You said Greyback attacked him?" Mr. Weasley asked Professor McGonagall distractedly. "But he hadn't transformed? So what does that mean? What will happen to Bill?"

"We don't yet know," said Professor McGonagall, looking helplessly at Lupin.

"There will probably be some contamination, Arthur," said Lupin. "It is an odd case, possibly unique. . . . We don't know what his behavior might be like when he awakens. . . ."

Mrs. Weasley took the nasty-smelling ointment from Madam Pomfrey and began dabbing at Bill's wounds.

"And Dumbledore . . ." said Mr. Weasley. "Minerva, is it true . . . Is he really . . . ?"

As Professor McGonagall nodded, Ginny moved next to Harry.

"Dumbledore gone," whispered Mr. Weasley, but Mrs. Weasley had eyes only for her eldest son; she began to sob, tears falling onto Bill's mutilated face.

"Of course, it doesn't matter how he looks. . . . It's not r-really important . . . but he was a very handsome little b-boy . . . always very handsome . . . and he was g-going to be married!"

"And what do you mean by that?" said Fleur suddenly and loudly. "What do you mean,he was going to be married?" Her accent was still as heavy as before.

Mrs. Weasley raised her tear-stained face, looking startled. "Well — only that —"

"You think Bill will not wish to marry me anymore?" demanded Fleur. "You think, because of these bites, he will not love me?"

"No, that's not what I —"

"Because he will!" said Fleur, drawing herself up to her full height and throwing back her long mane of silver hair. "It would take more than a werewolf to stop Bill loving me!"

"Well, yes, I'm sure," said Mrs. Weasley, "but I thought perhaps — given how — how he —"

"You thought I would not wish to marry him? Or perhaps, you hoped?" said Fleur, her nostrils flaring. "What do I care how he looks? I am good-looking enough for both of us, I think! All these scars show is that my husband is brave! And I shall do that!" she added fiercely, pushing Mrs. Weasley aside and snatching the oint-ment from her.
Mrs. Weasley fell back against her husband and watched Fleur mopping up Bill's wounds with a most curious expression upon her face. Nobody said anything, everyone seemed to be waiting for the explosion.

"Our Great-Auntie Muriel," said Mrs. Weasley after a long pause, "has a very beautiful tiara — goblin-made — which I am sure I could persuade her to lend you for the wedding. She is very fond of Bill, you know, and it would look lovely with your hair."

"Thank you," said Fleur stiffly. "I am sure that will be lovely."

And then, without me really seeing it happen, both women were crying and hugging each other.

"You see!" said a strained voice. Tonks was glaring at Lupin. "She still wants to marry him, even though he's been bitten! She doesn't care!"

"It's different," said Lupin, barely moving his lips and looking suddenly tense. "Bill will not be a full werewolf. The cases are completely —"

"But I don't care either, I don't care!" said Tonks, seizing the front of Lupin's robes and shaking them. "I've told you a million times. . . ."

And the meaning of Tonks's Patronus and her mouse-colored hair, and the reason she had come running to find Dumbledore when she had heard a rumor someone had been attacked by Grey-back, all suddenly became clear to me that Tonks was in love with Lupin.

"And I've told you a million times," said Lupin, refusing to meet her eyes, staring at the floor, "that I am too old for you, too poor . . . too dangerous. . . ."

"I've said all along you're taking a ridiculous line on this, Remus," said Mrs. Weasley over Fleur's shoulder as she patted her on the back.

"I am not being ridiculous," said Lupin steadily. "Tonks deserves somebody young and whole."

"But she wants you," said Mr. Weasley, with a small smile. "And after all, Remus, young and whole men do not necessarily remain so."
He gestured sadly at his son, lying between them.

"This is . . . not the moment to discuss it," said Lupin, avoiding everybody's eyes as he looked around distractedly. "Dumbledore is dead. . . ."

"Dumbledore would have been happier than anybody to think that there was a little more love in the world," said Professor McGonagall curtly, just as the hospital doors opened again and Hagrid walked in.

The little of his face that was not obscured by hair or beard was soaking and swollen; he was shaking with tears, a vast, spotted handkerchief in his hand.

"I've . . . I've done it, Professor," he choked.
"M-moved him. Professor Sprout's got the kids back in bed. Professor Flitwick's lyin' down, but he says he'll be all righ' in a jiffy, an' Professor Slughorn says the Ministry's bin informed."

"Thank you, Hagrid," said Professor McGonagall, standing up at once and turning to look at the group around Bill's bed. "I shall have to see the Ministry when they get here. Hagrid, please tell the Heads of Houses — Slughorn can represent Slytherin — that I want to see them in my office forthwith. I would like you to join us too."

As Hagrid nodded, turned, and shuffled out of the room again, she looked down at Harry. "Before I meet them I would like a quick word with you, Harry. If you'll come with me..."

They left the room and I was left in the silence of the room.

"Elizabeth if you'll come with me and Tonks..." Said Lupin.

"Oh..." I stuttered. "But I thought you to had a marriage to complete right now. You know where to find me..." And with that I tried to walk away but Ron grabbed the back of my dress. I stood and saw Lupin looking at me semi-angrily and Tonks flash red cheeks but with a blink of her eyes they've ft away instantly.

"Now-" Lupin said walking towards the door. Tonks followed.

"Fine-" I said angrily following them.

I heard a few small laughs through the cries around the room. Fleur even commented happily about my attitude.

"Bill always loves the humor in the younger children," she said through sobs. I smiled for a moment before quickly walking to catchup with Tonks and Lupin.

He closed the door to the ward behind us and walked down the hall silently until we entered a empty classroom. Lupin locked the door and conjured some light in the room.

"Hello-" I said meekly and awkwardly.

"What were you saying about being in the room of requirement?" Lupin asked me sternly. I looked at Tonks and she titled her head towards Lupin. I sighed before beginning the story.

"Well, I was at Dumbledores office for a meeting. He and Harry had something to do-"

"What were they doing?" Asked Lupin.

"I don't know-" I lied quickly.

"Eliza-" Tonks started.

"I'm sorry-" I started. "I'm not allowed to say... Dumbledore swore me to secrecy-" I said.

"We will comeback to that-" Lupin said quickly.

"Anyway," I said. "I was at the meeting and Dumbledore told me to talk Draco out of it. I ran towards the room of requirement and it opened for me. I spotted Draco working with the closet and he opened it after telling me to leave-"

"Wait," interrupted Tonks. "He told you to leave?" She asked.

"Yes..." I said casually.

"Wait... He told you to leave- why?" Asked Tonks interested.

"I don't know. I was trying to talk him out of whatever he was going to do and he performed a spell. I ran around some stuff and hid,"

"Okay- here-" said Lupin. He pointed his wand at me. "Vulnera Sanetur," I felt my forehead tense up and brief pain before touching my hand to it and feeling my head with no blood or any cuts on it. "You might want to get to bed," he said.

"Lupin-" I said starting to argue.

"Now-" he said sternly.

"Fine... Goodnight Tonks- Lupin," I hugged them both and walked back towards Gryffindor tower. A tear fell down my cheek again but I wiped it away hastily. I went through the portrait hole quietly and I walked into a full common room the room fell practically silent. I saw people staring at me as I walked towards the boys dormitory staircases.

"Elizabeth-" someone called my name as I went up towards the room. I initially ignored it but then my wrist got pulled. I whirled around quickly and broke my wrist free.

"No!" I shouted. All eyes were once again on me. Seamus was looking at me a little puzzled.

"Just wanted to tell you girls aren't allowed in the boys dormitories anymore-"

"Hell with that," I mumbled and walked up the staircase. I flung the door open to Harrys dormitory and saw Harry and Ron both look at me.

I walked silently aver in between both of their beds and sat down with my knees pulled closely to my chest. My back leaned against Harrys bed as he lay on top of it. After a long silence I sighed deeply.

"Now what?" I asked staring at the stone bricks.

"Now-" said Harry. His voice sounded a little choked. "You go to bed,"

"I can't sleep after that-" I said.

"I never said you would be sleeping... I said to go to bed. Lay down.... I think that's the most helpful thing we can do right now," I sighed again. Before I knew it I was walking around the bend of the girl and boy dormitory stairs.

"Elizabeth, you were there right?" Asked a voice. I felt eyes burning at me as I walked back up towards the stairs.

"Bye-" I said and walked into my dormitory. Without changing my clothes I laid down on my bed. Closed the curtains around it which was a rare occurrence and cried silently into the darkness. I fell asleep....
