Chapter 21: Memory Retrieved
"Aragog is dead-" said Ron as he shoveled eggs into his mouth.
"The crazy spider that Hagrid is friends with a rules the arachnids?" I asked eating a grape.
"That's the one, Hagrid wants us to come down to the burial tonight at sunset-" said Harry.
"But we aren't going. Harry is going to use his Felix Felicis to try to get the memory from Slughorn," Hermione said sternly.
"That will have to work-" I said looking to Harry.
"Alright I'm off to class-" I said leaving for herbology.
"Bye," said Hermione.
"Bye Eliza," said Ron.
"I'll meet up with you all later before the Felix-" I said quickly before walking to the greenhouses.
-------------------------------------------------------
"Alohomora," I walked into Ron and Harrys dormitory and saw Harry Hermione and all looking at me. My left wrist had been burning all day and turning red and puffy.
"Ready Harry?" I asked as I walked towards them and sat my bag down near the door of the dormitory. Harry held up a tiny crystal bottle full of a golden potion. He uncorked it.
"Ready?" Asked Hermione. Harry took a small sip of Felix Felicis.
"So, how does it feel?" Asked Hermione as the three of us stared at Harry.
"Excellent!" Said Harry confidently with a big smile on his face. "Really excellent... Right... I'm going down to Hagrids," Harry said.
"What?" Said Ron and Hermione together.
""No, Harry you've just got to see Slughorn, Remember?" Said Hermione quickly.
"No, I'm going to Hagrids. I have a good feeling about Hagrids," Harry said confidently still looking extremely confident.
"Harry? It's spiked with drugs isn't it? My brothers on drugs-" I said looking at Harry.
"I'm not on drugs-" said Harry to me.
"Then get yourself to Slughorns and get the memory-" I said.
"No, I'm going to Hagrids. I feel like it's the place to be tonight- you know what I mean?" Harry said pulling out his invisibility cloak.
"Trust me- I know what I'm doing," Harry said with a small laugh as he looked at Ron, Hermione and my alarmed face. "Or at least... Felix does," he walked out the door and before the three of us could catch up to him he was through the portrait hole because Dean and Ginny had just come through it and it seemed like they were in a fight but the sounds of it.
"What are we going to do?" Asked Hermione as we watched the portrait swing shut behind Harry.
"I'll go follow him," I said at once.
"No, Eliza, there's no point. We can just try again tomorrow and maybe have you try to get the memory with Felix as Harry has gone off-" said Hermione.
"Let me just watch him so I can see that he gets to Hagrids cabin safely," I said. Hermione looked mad. "Oh, come on Harry is my brother and he's on some weird potion," I said calmly facing both of them.
"Might as well," said Ron.
"Ron!" Hermione exclaimed. She looked at me thoughtfully. "Oh, fine but be careful-" she said and with that I ran into the hallway of the schools and towards the front doors but before I reached them I thought I heard a loud noise from a few floors above me. I ran all the way up to the seventh floor where the room of requirement was and as I walked in front of the bare wall I saw Draco Malfoy emerge from the wall and a small door disappear behind me. When he spotted me he looked shocked.
"Potter- what are you doing here?" He sneered though he sounded nervous.
"I could ask the same to you Draco," I said calmly.
"I don't have to answer to you-" Draco said.
"No, you don't have to forests but I know you have to answer to someone-" I said and I gestured to my left wrist slightly. Draco looked nervous for a second.
"Your out of you mind? What are you even implying?" Said Draco.
"Admit it Draco your working for him," I said kind of loudly.
"Ridiculous!" He said.
"Draco- you know that I'm telling the truth admit it!" I said.
"And what might you be interrogating Draco about, Potter?" Asked a voice. I sighed and turned around where behind me I saw none other than the man I least wanted to see right now- Severus Snape.
"Um-" I panicked. "About how he didn't go t the last Quidditch game-" I lied quickly. I saw Snape not breaking his eyes contact with me so I tried to use occlumency.
"Do not lie to me-" Snape said.
"Not lying-" I said still trying to use occlumency.
"Then why are you trying to block me out?" Snape asked me.
"Because I don't have to let anyone see my thoughts-" I said quickly.
"Certainly," said Snape obviously not believing me.
"If I see one more thing like that happening between you and Mr. Malfoy here again I wish you luck-" Snape threatened. I almost rolled my eyes.
"Come on Draco- I have some things to say to you," said Snape angrily ushering Draco away from me. I shouted the first thing that came to me.
"I wish you luck Draco... With your special task-" I said calmly. I swear I saw Draco stop walking for a few seconds and shake nervously.
I quickly ran away before Snape could process what I had said so I ran down all the flights of stairs and out the front doors which were, scarily unlocked but good for me. I sprinted across the dark Hogwarts grounds hidden by the fleeting shadows and made my way towards Hagrids but. I walked down the rocky horror wth towards the old hut and saw smoke coming from the chimney. The closer I got I heard singing coming from it. It was extremely off key and it was two men's voices singing together a song about death.
I slowly walked closer to the cabin as twigs snapped beneath my feet and I peaked my head in the window.
"He was talking about my parents dying-" said Harry sadly.
"Oh yes, terrible... Terrible," said Slughorn. I noticed he had a big glass in his hand as did Hagrid and Harry had a full glass in front of him. "I don't suppose, you remember where I t happened, do you Harry?" Asked Slughron awkwardly.
""No well- I was only one when they died-" he suddenly looked towards the window, spotted me and gestured with his hands for me to get lower. I did and went around to the front door, and listened through the crack in it.
"But I've found out what happened pretty much since. My dad died first, did you know?" Harry said.
"I-I didn't," said Slughorn.
"Yeah... Voldemort murdered him then stepped over his body towards my mum," said Harry. "He told her to get out of the way, he told me she needn't of died. He only wanted me. She could have run-" Harry said remora fully. "She could have had my sister instead of her almost dying except for being saved by a emergency-" Harry said.
"Oh dear... She could have... She needn't have... That's awful," Slughorn breathed.
"It is, isn't it? But she didn't move," at this point I was almost laughing at Harrys guilt tripping skills. "Dad was already dead, but she didn't want me to die to. She tried to plead with Voldemort...but he just laughed..."
"That's enough! Really, my dear boy, I've had enough. I'm an old man... I-" I ran over to the window and popped my he
ad in it again Harry spotted me and looked at me as Slughorn rambled on.
"He liked mum. Guilt trip him, to help us-" I mouthed. Harry nodded and as Slughorn stopped talking Harry said.
"I forgot, you liked her didn't you?" Harry said sadly.
"Liked her? I don't imagine anyone who met her wouldn't have liked her. Very brave... Very funny...it was the most horrible thing..." He said sadly. I looked at Harry through the window.
"Guilt him through mum," I mouthed slowly. Harry nodded curtly and Slughorn looked back at the window so I ducked down quickly.
"But you won't help her son. She gave her life but you won't give me a memory," he said making Slughorn sound like a death eater almost. I bit my lip slightly and smiled as I ducked underneath the windowsill with my head against the stone hut.
"Don't say that," slight on whispered. As I peeked from the bottom of the window I saw his eyes were filled with tears. I almost felt bad for him except for that fact that we needed this memory more than anything. "It isn't a question... If it were to help you... It would serve no purpose," he whispered.
Harry looked to me and I mouthed something back. "Dumbledore," was the single word. "Dumbledore needs information, I need information," Harry said dramatically. This time I actually had to cover my mouth to keep from laughing. Felix was working its magic by the seems of things.
"I am the chosen one. I have to kill him. I need that information," Harry said leaning in closer to Slughorn. It was getting extremely cold as the night drew later. I was in shorts with a gray tanktop and blue long sweater over it.
"You are the chosen one?" Slughorn asked sound int in awe.
"Of course I am-" Harry said. I gave him a heads up in the window.
"But then... My dear boy... You're asking a great deal... Your asking me, in fact, to aid you in attempt to destroy-"
"You don't want to get rid of the wizard who killed Lily Evans?" Harry said.
"Harry, Harry, of course I do-"
"You're afraid that he'll find out you helped me-" Harry said calmly.
"Be brace like my mother professor," Harry said.
"I am not proud..." Slughorn said as he raised a hand to his lips. "I am ashamed of what the memory shows... I think I may have done a great damage that day-"
"You would cancel out anything you did that night by giving me the memory," Harry said confidently.
There was a lot of silence until Slughorn took a crystal phial out of his coat along with his wand and he withdrew a memory from his temple then put it inside and handed the memory to Harry.
"Thank you professor," Harry said taking the memory. I was so giddy that I actually hit my head on the window sills loudly. Both Harry and Slughorn looked over in the direction. I laid low and rubbed my forehead that was now developing a bump.
"You're a very good boy, and you've got her eyes. Just don't think to badly of me once you've seen it..." Slughorn said and then he fell asleep just like Hagrid. I walked over towards the door of the cabin with a huge smile on my
Way.
"You did it!" I said in a happy whisper as Harry stepped out of the front door of the hut.
"Thanks for coming Eliza, and by the way you didn't need to come-" he said.
"I didn't mean to, well... I was going to try to get you to go to Slughorns," I said. "But it seems like you found him anyway," I said.
"Come on let's get back to the castle I can feel the potion wearing off-" Harry said and with that we started to march back towards the castle.
"It's open-" I said as I opened the front door to Hogwarts.
"Come on let's go-" said Harry we ran through the hallway and when we finally managed to get to the portrait hole the fat lady was not very helpful.
"The password changes at midnight-" she said. "But if you want you could take it up with the headmaster he's the one who's tightened security-" she mumbled.
"Fantastic- really brilliant. I would like to take it up with the headmaster but he's away-" Harry said starting to pace slightly in front of the portrait hole.
"No he's not-" said a voice. "He got back a hour ago, the bloody baron saw him-" said Nearly headless nick.
"Where is he?" I asked urgently.
"In his office, from what the baron told me/" said Nick. Harry sprinted down the hall.
"Thanks Nick," I said before also running down the hall towards Dumbledores office.
"Toffee eclairs-" Harry said to the gargoyle. When I finally caught up next to him the staircase was spinning and Harry was climbing up them. I was extremely out of breath.
"You- couldn't... Have waited- a... Minute?" I said.
"Enter-" said Dumbledore as we arrived at the door in front of Dumbledores office.
