Chapter 11: Slug Club
The following morning was a Monday morning and Harry had a lesson with Dumbledore that evening. I had the dinner with Slughorn. I walked down to breakfast with Ginny and we sat at out normal spots. I was next to Hermione and opposite of Harry Ginny in the other side of Hermione talking to her friends and Harry next to Ron.
"Good morning," I said as I sat down and grabbed a sausage with a piece of toast.
"Hi-" said Harry.
"Are you excited for Slughorns later?" Asked Hermione with a slight laugh. I rolled my eyes.
"No way," I said.
"Wow, it's already quarter of-" said Hermione after we finished eating.
"Oh goodness, I have to be at history of magic-"I said as we began grabbing our books. "Ginny-" I called.
"Oh, I'm gonna walk with Dean today," I started walking away.
"Okay, see you later- don't be late!" And with that I walked with the trio til I made it to my class. It was a normal history of magic day and we learned about Great wars again and were told we had to write a twelve inch long essay on the goblin rebellion.
Then we had potions. It was the same as normal and at the end of class Slughorn held me back.
"So, I hear you will be at my dinner tonight?" He asked me.
"Ah, yes, I will be-" I said with a fake smile plastered on my face.
"Good, good, we are excited to have you-" he said.
"Thanks, excited to be able to go," I said.
"Okay, well I'd better be off-" and with that he left the room and I headed off to the Great Hall.
"Ugh-" I said flopping down onto the seat at the Gryffindor table.
"What's up with you?" Asked Ron.
"Slughorn," I mumbled. Ron got defensive again because he was mad Slughorn didn't want him to go to the dinners.
"I have to get my books for the afternoon. Talk to you later," I said as I walked back to Gryffindor tower.
Once I got into my dormitory I gathered up my needed textbooks and saw that the note I had found in the common room the night before was ripped in half but laid together so it still formed the message. I was running late so I ran to my next class which was Divination with Professor Trewlaney. She still smelled of cooking sherry even though Umbridge was gone and her job news secure.
"Good afternoon Professor Trewlaney," I said as I entered the classroom that was in the north tower. It was foggy and smelled of perfumes like always as I walked over to my and Ginny's table that we sat at.
Ginny and I had to interpret each others dreams. I interpreted Ginny's which had to do with her in a forest looking at the sun, but when it came to mine I realized I couldn't tell her my real dream so I just said that I dreamed that Dobby visited me. We were told that we had to start keeping a dream journal which I dreaded. I couldn't actually write my real dreams.
After Divination came the double period I hated most... D.A.T.D.A. Yes, it's true I loved the class in general but not with Snape as the teacher. He made everything 100% worse for my and Harrys life. I walked to class with Ginny like always and we sat next to eachother.
"I wonder where Snape is," I whispered as we sat down.
"I don't know but-" I turned around and saw Snape entering through the back door. I stared ahead of me and twiddled my quill in between my fingers.
It was a theory class so we had to take notes. Unlike last year, this year we switched off learning theories and practicing spells and counter jinxes. After a long class the school day was over and I left and went back to the Gryffindor common room with lots of homework to do and being extremely tired and mad about having to go to Slughorns party with his "jewels". I worked on my homework alone in my dormitory for about a hour before shoving all my books in my bag again and getting ready for Slughorns even thought it didn't start for another two hours. I put my hair into a Dutch braid and put on a sweater dress that was maroon with a gold zipper down the back. It went down to my knees and the sleeves went just below my elbows. Then I put on a pair of black shoes with small heels. I did my makeup slightly and put my wand in the inside pocket of my dress.
It was half past four by the time I was done and I decided to go to the library for a hour to work on my essays and homework. I walked to the library with my books in my schoolbag and plopped down at a desk with three library books open in front of me about the goblin rebellion.
"Oh, there you are come on Elizabeth we are going to be late," said a voice after I had been sucked into my work.
"Hermione... Wait, what time is it?" I asked as
I gathered up my paper and my textbooks. I stuffed them into my schoolbag quickly and clicked off the desk light.
"It's quarter of six we need to go or we will be late!"she said impatiently stuffing two of my library books back onto the shelves.
"Oh, no I'm so sorry Hermione!" I said as we started running out of the library. We got yelled at by Filch on the way to Slughorns classroom.
We entered the classroom with no time to wait and saw about fifteen students seated around a circular table all eating steak and kidney pie. I made a fake smile and looked towards Hermione who nodded encouragingly. I walked next to her slowly as the eyes of all the students fell on us.
"I-I'm sorry we're late- we-"
"Elizabeth lost track of time while studying and then I found her in the library were really sorry we're late Professor Slughorn," continued Hermione as she led me to two empty chairs around the table.
"Oh, no problem girls. Please, sit, sit," he said laughing merrily. I hesitantly sat down next to Hermione.
"I am very glad you could join us here tonight Elizabeth," said Slughorn.
"Oh- I am... Glad I could be here," I said trying to sound like I was meaning what I said when really I did not want to be at this meeting.
I looked at Hermione and she shrugged me off. Cormac Mclaggen was two years above me and he tried to be seeker a year ago. Blaise Zabini was in Harrys year but a Slytherin. Ginny loathed him and he was in Dracos gang so I didn't like him. Flora and her twin sister Hestia also were at the table. They were both Slytherins whom I didn't really like. Melinda Bobbin was also there. She was a Slytherin to. Ginny sat there at the table next to Jermione and Cormac. She looked incredibly uncomfortable.
The dinner was very boring and I did not want to go to another. He talked about all of our families and asked what they did and things like what we wanted to be our grades. I stayed pretty quiet during the dinner even when Hermione urged me to "just answer" as she would say.
At the end of the night Slughorn held me and Hermione back. Ginny waited outside of the classroom for us.
"Hello, did you enjoy the dinner tonight?" He asked us.
"Oh, yes!" Said Hermione happily.
"Certainly, thank you-" I said quietly.
"Anyway, I will not keep you two longer than I must. So, I want to know a copy of Harrys schedule as to be able to make sure he is at my Christmas Party," he said.
"Um- I'm not sure if that's pos-" I said quickly.
"Of course we can help you with that Professor I'll get it to you tomorrow," said Hermione. I glared at her angrily.
"Excellent. Alright well, you two must be off to bed I'm afraid it is ten past nine. Do be careful-" he said as we left the room.
"Hermione-" I said angrily as we walked down the hall quickly with Ginny.
"Eliza-" she said back. She was looking around the halls normally. It was dark in the hallways as we walked.
"You know Harry doesn't want to go to these Slug Club things," I said as we walked up the staircases.
"Yes, but come on Eliza he's going to have to go eventually and we're allowed to bring someone to the Christmas party so he might enjoy it," said Hermione defensively. I sighed because it was true that we were allowed to take someone to the Christmas party which was almost a full month away.
"Fine, I wonder if he's back yet-" I said.
"Probably, but just don't tell him Eliza I will eventually. Don't mention it... Please," Hermione said as we arrived outside of the portrait hole.
"I won't-" I said as the door swung open and we were engulfed in the warmth of the common room that had many people still inside of it.
"What even happened?" Asked Ginny.
"Nothing, Hermione said that Harry would go to the next meeting and you know he doesn't want to go," I said.
"Oh, okay," said Ginny and she walked over to Dean Thomas.
We walked over to the corner of the room where Ron sat surrounded by a pile of books with Neville. I felt my face burn red when he looked up at me. His cheeks also went slightly pink and he quickly looked away from me. No one seemed to notice though as they went on.
"Oh, are you back from Slug club?" Asked Ron angrily. He was obviously jealous because his sister and we were in it but he wasn't.
"Yes," said Hermione as she sat down on the ground in front of him.
"How was it?" Asked Ron.
"The worst thing ever-" I said before Hermione had the chance to interject.
"It was not Elizabeth," she said. I have to admit though Ron looked much happier after that.
"Hello, Neville," I said shyly to him.
"Oh, hello Eliza," he said as he dud his face farther into a book.
"So- is Harry back yet?" Asked Hermione.
"Not yet-" said Ron.
"I didn't think he would be," said Hermione.
"He will be back soon enough," I said.
"Well- I'm tired. I think I'll go to bed," said Hermione. "Are you going to wait for him?" She asked me and Ron.
"No I'm going up to our room to Neville. Are you coming?" Asked Ron.
"Nah, I'll be up in a few minutes-" said Neville. They bade us all goodnight and we're off.
"Neville-" I said shyly.
"Yes," he said packing up the last of his papers.
"Never mind," I said. Neville would never know the things I was thinking. "Uh- goodnight," and I ran up to my dormitory
