Chapter 2: lies turned to truths

                                                                                        PRESTON

I woke up laying on a wood floor. It had hurt my back, but it reminded me of home for an odd reason. I smiled, until I fully had came to my senses and realized that I was nowhere near home.

A dimmed light was the only way I could genuinely see. Even then, it wasn't like I could tell what my surroundings were.

I stood up and my shoe squeaked against the floorboards.

Oh shit. Escaping is totally going to be fun.

It took me a bit to even realize what was in the room.

Bookshelves, posters of sorts, a small bed, and Kat.

Kat-

What was she doing in here? I had nothing against her, it just took me by surprise.

If it almost sends you into cardiac arrest because of childhood trauma I totally don't have, then yeah, all it did was surprise me.

The light flickered on and off for a minute or two and it came back to making regularly colored and looking lighting.

I finally looked over at Kat.

Maybe she could help.

"You have any idea where we are?" I asked.

"Absolutely not." She sighed. "Do you?"

"I don't think I'd be asking you if I did know."

"Dear Lord, you're right. Sorry." She apologized.

"Don't worry about it." I sighed and started looking around. My attention got drawn to the bookshelves, more specifically, the books.

From my fair share of watching movies and shows where they get into situations like that, I figured that if the books got reassembled into a certain order, it would've brought out something.

But as I looked closer at the book titles, they were all in French.

Damn it.

I was taking Spanish.

And I knew Kat was too, since we had the same class.

I felt around my pockets to see if I still had my phone. Damn, I don't. They took my phone, so there goes that.

Wait you idiot. You're trapped in here with another person for a reason.

It was dumb, but I was still going to ask her.

"Do you have your phone?" I asked.

She felt around her pockets and looked up at me, shaking her head no.

"Damn." I looked around trying to think of something else. "Hm. Oh, uh, do you by any chance know French?"

"When's my birthday?" She questioned back for some reason.

"March 20th. What does that have to do with anything?" I asked.

"Fuck, I didn't think you knew. Very complicated way to tell you, but uh, yeah, no I don't know. Sorry." She said.

"Hey, stop apologizing. It's fine. I was just hoping by some sort of miracle you would know. Don't beat yourself up."

"Alright."

"And by the way, you didn't make it complicated, you made it fun." I said to her.

 She laughed. "Whatever."

...

The tension between Kat and I was getting to the the craziest state of awkwardness.

I need to pick an adjective, jeez, one or the other. Eh, it's whatever.

I was playing with my rings while sitting on the floor.

Shit, I'm probably gonna die trying to get out of here.  So you know what, fuck it. I think it's time I tell her how I feel.

"Kat, can I tell you something?" I finally spoke up.

"Yeah, sure. What's up?" She said while getting up from the bed.

"Sit down." I say grasping her shoulder and pulling her back down to me. "I need to talk to you."

As  Kat sits, I uncomfortably shift as I attempt to form the words I was going to say. "Kat, I've been meaning to tell you this for the longest time but um..." I sigh and look at the ground. "I like you Kat. I've just had to find ways for people not to find out and you know... start teasing. That's why I've been waiting until we were alone."

I could feel the awkward tension between us arising again. Oh no. I've made a terrible mistake. Damn it, why did I do this? But her response was actually the complete opposite of what I was expecting.

I saw Kat blush. She looked down at the ground for a bit, then back at me. "You know, I've actually liked you for a while." She says, pulling her hair behind her ear.

She pulled her hair behind her ear, that means we should kiss. Damn, I never thought Mike's advice would come in handy, but I was so freaking wrong.

I hesitantly grab her arm to pull her in for a kiss. Before we do, she smirks at me and gives me this look that clearly says, go ahead. So I did. I leaned in, and then the magic happens....
