Chapter 16: pushed down

                                                                                      JACOB

Oh crap, I hope she's ok. I don't want her to die.

I don't know why, but Rachel's safety became my top priority. At first it was to make it out of here alive, but at this point, I really don't understand why my perspective has changed all of a sudden.

You'll understand one day, Jacob. One day.

"Is everyone alright?" Holly asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Uh, no I'm fucking dying here!" Rachel said in a bit of a raspier voice.

"Oh I'm so sorry there, little princess. Your prince is coming and he'll heal all your bruises with a goddamn kiss. Then you two will get married and live happily ever after." Kat said.

"Damn, straight up roasted." I said.

It bothered me a little, but it was an okay joke. Where her sudden snappiness came from I still don't know.

Holly laughed. "That was a good one!"

"Uh, that's not fucking funny!" Rachel said.

Preston lightly laughed. "To be honest, it kind of is."

"See, even Preston agrees!" I said. And to me, that's the shocker.

"Guys, shut up! We seriously need to get out of here." Rachel said.

"Okay, queen of Obvious Land!" Most likely Holly said.

We did our typical walking and I start thinking. Since for once we weren't being attacked, I actually got to think.

Why the hell was this building so big? Lord knew how long we had been in here, but why was it-

Why wasn't this building being used for something useful? It's L.A, this place could've been another corporation building. Why use it to torture people? I wondered what this building used to be.

I got some sudden chills just thinking about that.

I rose my eyes up, about to ask the group a question.

Instead, I looked up to see a guard.

"Jacob, do you want to fight off the guard again?" Preston asked me.

"Hell yeah!" I answered.

And then I fought him.

My guard (Haha, I know, I didn't intend to make that pun.) was still down, so I honestly didn't know why I even agreed to doing so.

At first, all I was doing was dodging and blocking any attacks this dude had up his sleeve.

I wanted to rile the fucker up like a bull seeing the color red, so I started playing with the sword.

"Jacob, what the hell are you doing? Fight him!" Holly said.

"It's called foreplay, sweetheart." I said to her, winking.

"What-" Holly started laughing.

"Just keep fighting you dumbass!" Preston said.

My plan worked just as expected, and the guard looked pissed as hell.

I remember thinking I could take it one notch higher.

"Ring around the rosie, pocket full of posie, imma fuckin blow all the ashes down." I said to myself.

"Knock it off you TikToker!" Holly yelled. I could hear the eye roll in that.

We clanged swords and fought.

After not too much struggling, I got a hit on him. "Checkmate." I said.

"Wrong sport." The guard said and barely got up.

He lunged and nicked me in the shoulder blade.

The only reason I got nicked was because I swayed myself to the side. I ended up falling, but it was okay.

The guard fell to his knees and I could hear quiet, wheezing breaths.

"No, I think I got it right." I said.

Holy crap that hurt! Why did that hurt?

I let my body merge with the wall and I sat up against it, blowing a loose strand  off my face.

I didn't want to move my hands. I felt like if I moved one more part of myself, everything would crash.

"You alright Jacob?" Kat asked me.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I lied, grabbing her hand and getting up.

"You guys, there's a map!" Holly said.

"Wait really?" Preston asked.

"You think I'd lie about that?"  Holly asked.

"Yeah." He replied, running to the map.

"Guys, we're really close! Only 4 more floors!"  Rachel figured it out before any of us.

"But weren't we just at the exit?" Preston asked.

"Honestly, I don't know." Holly said.

"Rachel, do you think you can handle that? I mean, you're really hurt." I said.

"I'll be fine. What about you, Jacob? " Rachel asked.

"Hey, Rachel. I'll be fine. He barely nicked my shoulder."

Jesus Christ, I need to go to a fucking hospital. Why do I feel like this? I don't want to go to a hospital. That shit's expensive. Thanks, America.

Preston stood in front of me, meaning he wanted to have a conversation. He put a hand on my shoulder, putting a lot of pressure right where I had gotten hit.

"I can see through your bullshit, Jacob." He said, moved his hand, and walked away.

"Bro, what were you doing?" Holly asked.

"Oh. Jacob wanted me to double check if it actually wasn't anything serious. He's all good." Preston said. He threw me a pissed look.

Why was he so mad about that?

"Well, let's shut up and get going!" Kat said.

Holy shit, Jacob's down!

Is that another slow down?

Are they even going to get out of the  building?
