17- Crossed Paths[Namkook/domestic/romance/]
The calm water exposed to the warm sun played with the gentle breeze kissing it's surface. The petals of cherry blossoms danced with the wind and showered over the people passing by the Han River, making the surroundings prettier.
People of all ages in different groups were spread all along the bank, adding instinct noises to the surroundings as they enjoyed their time in the sunshine accompanied by the cool breeze. The weather concluded that winter was on its way.
Wrapped in an old weared out sweater, his composed figure was relaxed on a wooden bench by the blue flowing beauty. His dark brown orbs blankly observed the flowing river, as the wind lightly ruffled his soft brown hair.
His eyes which used to sparkle with stars even at the slightest happiness had now died down. The sudden burden of responsibilities he was supposed to carry after his father’s death suppressed him. After his demise, his elder brother, Junghyun, had to leave his studies and look for a job, which sadly didn't carry the expenses of both the household and his university.
Junghyun surely loved him and tried his best to spend time with him, but Jungkook still felt something was missing. Jungkook understood the situation, and tried his best to help his family, by coping with his university. He wasn't good in studies, but he held a great position in sports, and that was how he was going to secure a scholarship.
Moreover, he missed his father as much as his mother, who worked as a waitress in a small restaurant. She worked for nearly 12-13 hours so that she could earn enough for a living . But unfortunately, she was like a breathing corpse in a hospital cabin, suffering from a rare disease.
This unfortunately made his brother work even harder. Seeing him stressed, he wanted to do something, anything, just something so he could contribute. He wanted to lift the burden off of his brother’s shoulder but he definitely couldn't afford paying the hospital bills, yet he used to try his best.
Frustratedly Jungkook pulled at his locks in representation to his thoughts that were eating him.
“Jungkook?” a soft voice spoke from beside him. “Jimin?” he looked up at the boy who was looking down at him with a soft gaze.
His light brown eyes showing all the affection in the world. Jungkook felt like crying into his embrace, but thought better of it. ‘He’d probably laugh at me’, he thought and quickly pushed the urge away. “What are you doing here?” he asked, his gaze settling back on the river flowing peacefully.“I needed air,” Jimin sighed. “What about you?” Jimin politely asked. “Same” Jungkook mumbled lightly.
He stared ahead at nothing in particular. Maybe the light waves overlapping each other, or the branches and leaves of the trees moving due to the wind? Or Maybe the hollowness consuming him.
But what was he trying to do? Seek comfort from them, or was he looking for someone? What was it? He did not know this himself, he wanted to know what he was doing, wanted to know what he was staring at! He wanted to know…
“Jungkook” he heard Jimin’s soft voice again. “I can see that your mind wanders off to places, I can see that something’s bothering you, just open this shell you’ve put yourself into and express…” he said, rather desperately.
Seeing his lively best friend like this hurt him. Jimin wanted to do something, but how can he do that when he doesn’t even know what’s wrong?
“Express yourself! Tell me what’s going on in your head. If not me somebody else maybe, but just please seek for help” he stumbled over his words, trying to find the best ones and knock some sense into him. “It hurts seeing you like this, so just please!”
Jungkook returned his gaze, which he had shifted to look at Jimin, and turned to the water again. He had a little debate whether or not he should tell Jimin, finally heaving a sigh he laid his head on Jimin’s lap. He felt him freeze for a moment before he ran a hand through his locks. He caressed his hair ever-so-slightly, to tell him that he was listening all along and to maybe comfort him as he let all his feelings out.
He stared at the sky as his mouth kept on moving and spilling his secrets. He felt Jimin embrace him whenever his voice cracked giving him comfort. He knew he could trust him, he knew he’d always be there for him. His best friend. He loves him.

Jungkook’s eyes scanned the columns of jobs in the newspaper. Looking through offers with a high salary, that could help him in paying the house bills at the least. When he had told Jimin about Junghyun not being able to handle everything well and that he wanted to help, he told him to look for some part time jobs.
When he put up a condition that it would be difficult for him to study, he simply told him to look for a job in which he would have to work for less hours. You can answer anything, he had said to him to which he just laughed and waved it off.
Jungkook let out a frustrated groan as he leaned back in his chair, throwing the paper on the floor and rubbed his eyes rather harshly. “Seems like I won’t get any job, any time soon.”
Still leaning on his chair, he stared at his ceiling and thought of what he should do. His thoughts wandered off to places. If I tell Jimin he’ll think I can’t do anything and I can’t tell hyung, he won’t be happy that I think we’re short of money and instead of letting me work he’ll work harder. He heaved a sigh and went to grab some water.
He shuffled to the kitchen and took out a glass from the cabinet. Practically dragging his feet to the fridge, opening the door he took out a bottle. After pouring the water to the brim he kept the bottle back and gulped down the water.
As he wiped the wetness from around his mouth, the ringtone of his phone caught his attention. He took his phone out of his pocket and checked the caller ID which read, ‘Jimin’.
He smiled to himself and picked up the phone, bringing it near his ear he spoke, “Hello?”
“Got any job?” Jimin asked, ignoring his greeting.
“What a way to greet someone” he scoffed. “C’mon!” Jimin sang desperately. “Tell me! Did you get a job?”
“No,” he sighed, quitting up. “Did you not find it or did they reject you after seeing your ugly face?” Jungkook faked a laugh and said, “Very funny”. “I can literally see you roll your eyes,” he laughed.“Cause it’s obvious!”
“Alright, on a serious note” he contained his laughter. “Why don’t you go to some official job websites and sign yourself in? Give them the details you find necessary and wait for pings.”
“There are such websites?" He asked, almost not believing his words. “Yep” he said, popping the ‘p’.
“Okay, I’ll check it out." He muttered, anyway. Jimin hummed in response, swinging in a final goodbye before hanging up the phone.
As the call ended he made his way back to his room. Settling down on his chair, he opened his laptop and searched for the website, and signed up himself. Writing all the details he found necessary he clicked on submit. Now he just had to wait, like Jimin said, to get notifications for jobs.

A day passed and Jungkook was doing his university work when he got a ringing sound on his phone. He switched it on to see the mail from the website he had applied for. Excitement rushed through in his figure as he went through the details of the mail.
He typed an acknowledgement and sent it to them. He jumped up in excitement and danced in joy. He stared at his phone and suddenly his thoughts landed on Jimin. He found his number in the contacts and called him. Bringing the phone near his ear he waited for Jimin to pick the call.
After a few rings he heard a soft, ‘hello’.
“Jimin-shi,” he beamed.
He heard a loud bump and a low groan, making Jungkook stifle a laugh. He was sure that the elder of the two had probably bumped into something.
“I got a job opportunity from Mr. Seokjin! He is willing to pay me 92000 won!” Jungkook squealed into the phone.
“Oh my god! For real” Jimin screamed from the other side, in utter delight. "Yes!" Jungkook exclaimed.
“What do you have to do?” Jimin asked. “Umm...well it’s a bit weird,” Jungkook answered, hesitantly.
“You are weird too, but I've been handling you since we were kids,” Jimin replied, snorting. “Argh! Shut up!” he snarled but continued. “I need to stay with Mr. Jin’s boyfriend...”
“Oh. And?” he inquired. “Nothing. I need to stay with his boyfriend till the time he’s away, which is for around seven weeks. He’ll tell me other details after I meet him." Jungkook replied.
“Seven weeks?!" Jimin asked, "But what will you tell your brother?" He asked surprised. "I will figure something out." Jungkook said, sighing out loud.
“Okay. So, when are you meeting him?” Jimin asked.
"Tomorrow" Jungkook replied, looking at the mail, to check once again.
“Well then, all the best,” Jimin piped up, cheering for his best friend.
“Thanks!”

Jungkook hurried off to his closet to decide what to wear the next day. It was important, he had to look good. After choosing a plain black shirt with black ripped jeans along with a black beanie, Jungkook went out to see his brother making dinner for them.
“Hey” Junghyun said when he realized Jungkook was there. “Hey,” Jungkook replied. “What are you making?” he asked.
“Bibimbap and Kimchi Stew” Junghyun replied, removing the lid of the pot to show him. Jungkook hummed as the smell of the food reached his nose.
“How’s eomma? Did you go see her?” Jungkook asked, as he helped in setting the table. “She’s fine, but” he sighed and turned around to face Jungkook. “But we need to get her operated soon so I’m gonna start working the night shifts too.”
Junghyun worked at a small Taxi service company called, “TaxC”. It gave him enough money to pay for half of Jungkook’s university fees and house bills. The hospital bill and the other half of the university fees was taken care by the loan.
“Ok…” Jungkook mumbled lowly.
“Let’s go eat!” Junghyun said as carried the dishes to the small dining table in the living room. Jungkook followed and sat down on a brown chair whose one leg was a bit shorter than the rest.
“Jungkook…” Junghyung started, his tone threatening and tired. “How many times have I told you to not sit on that chair? You can fall and get yourself hurt”
“And how many times have I told you I enjoy sitting on it? It feels like some ride” Jungkook said with a smug look on his face. Junghyun just smiled at his younger brother’s childishness, but was it really his childishness speaking? Or had he grown up?
“Oh hyung!” Jungkook said. “I need to go early tomorrow.” Junghyun halted in his hand moment and looked at Jungkook. “Where to?”
“Uh…the university?” Jungkook said, giving him an awkward smile. Junghyun just raised a brow at him.
“I have a project to work on.” Jungkook said, whatever came into his mind. Junghyun sighed and nodded. “It better be the university Jungkook,” he threatened.
Jungkook nodded his head and started eating.

The next day, Jungkook got up to the sunlight highlighting his features. He washed up his face and got ready. He bade his brother goodbye and went straight to Mr. Jin’s house.
Jungkook took long breaths as he stood in front of Mr.Jin's house. The house seemed cozy from outside. A brown welcoming wooden door with a beautiful handmade board hanging from the top. The names Seokjin and Namjoon were carved on them.
Jungkook knocked on the door. After a second or two, the door opened which gave Jungkook a view of a handsome tall man. The man wore a deep blue jacket above a white shirt. His trousers were the same color as the jacket.
The man looked at him from up to down, before meeting Jungkook’s eyes. His eyes were dark brown, which seemed to be as cold as an iceberg. Jungkook shivered as he felt those eyes right on him.
“H-hello” Jungkook mentally cursed himself for stuttering. “I’m here to meet Mr. Kim Seokjin.” Jungkook said, giving a small awkward smile.
The man moved away and into the huge living room. There were paintings all over the wall. A Navajo Yellow shelf which had a few photo frames. After taking a closer look at the pictures, Jungkook figured that the guy who opened the door for him, might be the 'boyfriend' he had to look after and the other one might be Mr. Jin.
“Hello,” Jungkook heard a smooth voice from behind him. “You must be Jungkook.”
Jungkook turned around to face a tall gentleman, a little shorter than the previous one. He had a sweet look on his face and his hair was neatly combed. His shoulders were wide and his face carried the elegance of a business heir.
“Hello. Yes that’s me,” Jungkook replied as the guy, who he supposed was Jin, walked over to him. “You must be Mr. Kim Seokjin.”
“Right I am!” he answered enthusiastically. “And no need to be so formal, call me Jin.” He said being comfortable.
“Okay, Mr. Jin.” Jin smiled at Jungkook. “I’m sure you’ve met my boyfriend, Namjoon,” he said. His voice seemed a bit lost and his words seemed empty, as if he did not mean what he said.
The guy who had opened the door, Namjoon, was sitting on a huge cream couch, scrolling through his phone. He seemed least interested in what was happening or who his boyfriend was talking to.
"I need you to stay here for these seven weeks. Cooking and Babysitting my boyfriend are the only things you have to do. Don't worry I am gonna pay you your salary for every week you stay here." Jin said, as Jungkook nodded. "You can leave for your university from here. And a firm reminder, do not allow Namjoon into the kitchen, he is a bit more on the destructive side." He said chuckling, as Jungkook mentally noted it down.
Jin showed Jungkook around and informed him of the things that needed to be taken care of. He showed him the guest room, where he would be staying.
“I’ll be leaving now!” Jin said. He turned around, took his bags and walked to the door. He hugged Namjoon and nodded at Jungkook.
The air filled with awkwardness as soon as Jin left. Jungkook looked around the room, not daring to steal a single glance at Namjoon whereas Namjoon was busy on his phone, however it was obvious he himself was feeling awkward too.
After nearly fifteen minutes in his position, Jungkook composed himself, and hesitantly walked over to the living room, contemplating whether he should speak or not. As soon as he reached the living room, he tried to start a conversation.
But no sooner had he stepped in, Namjoon stood up, and marched upstairs without sparing Jungkook a glance. A few minutes later, a loud noise of someone closing the door echoed through the house, confirming that he had probably gone to his room.
Jungkook sighed looking at the stairs. These were going to be the longest seven weeks of his life.
●●●
Namjoon stared at the laptop screen which was glaring into his eyes. He had an important presentation the next day, so he was checking on the details of the file. Staring at the last slide in his presentation, his mind drifted to a certain brunette, Jungkook.
It was not the first time Jin had left someone to look after him. He always did, scared of what would happen if he left Namjoon alone. Namjoon just gave them a tight smile and ignored them for the rest of the weeks they stayed, because usually they were women above 40's and he had nothing to do with them.
Jin never minded whoever the person was. He just wanted someone to do the cooking for him, and someone who didn't destroy his kitchen, like Namjoon. He always took at least a week to decide on someone, because he couldn't trust someone else that easily after what happened with his stepfather.
But this time he had to plan for a sudden trip and had to decide on it in a day. The fact that troubled Namjoon, himself, was that the chosen "babysitter" was a young man, who probably attended university. Jin had said that the younger was the only option for him, so he had no option but to agree.
But now Namjoon didn't regret hiring Jungkook, after seeing the youngsters body language. He didn't know why, but Namjoon felt that he had known Jungkook before. A sense of similarity in the way they met, and in the way he spoke. His doe eyes looking at everything with confusion, and his pretty chapped lips, pressed in an adorable pout when he did not understand what Jin was explaining.
Namjoon observed everything. He didn't feel guilty for checking out someone who wasn't his 'boyfriend'. As first, Jungkook was his type and second, Jin was his boyfriend, but only in name.
It was all just a well structured mask, to fool Jin's stepfather, who had taken over his mother's company illegally. They were waiting to renounce it, after Jin took over his stepfather's power and took the company back into his hands. For which he needed a powerful background and money, that was when Namjoon came in.
Namjoon had a powerful and resourceful background. They both had met in a business deal and by the time the contract was sealed, a new deal was constructed between them. Namjoon had put a simple request of receiving some shares after the collab, and Jin had heartily agreed to the terms.
It was a deal, with no feelings involved from either side, and how could it be when Jin already had a lover, who too was involved in their plan. Namjoon had no hard feelings and instead found a good friend in him. Thanking their drinking games, which glued them into best friends.
Jin too was a really good friend and a great brother. He was really caring and sweet, and he cooked amazingly. The only time he had been really angry was when Namjoon had accidentally broken his most expensive set of cutlery. A one side rap battle broke out in the kitchen, with Jin rapping his insults to Namjoon, who stared at him dumbfounded.
Namjoon chuckled at the memory. He still finds it as a reminder to never step into the kitchen ever again. He slowly sat up in his seat and looked out the window. The pretty birds flying outside in the orange sky, shook him back to reality. His thoughts suddenly shifted to Jungkook.
He had left the poor youngster all alone, because of a reminder of the project. Contemplating his thoughts of checking on the younger, Namjoon played with a pen on the table. After a second or two, deciding it wouldn't hurt to check on a certain someone, he got up from his seat and switched off his laptop, before walking downstairs.
●●●
Jungkook stared at the stairs for a while, before tearing a paper from his book and writing up a brief message for Namjoon, stating that he had to go to his university and that we would come back in the evening. He left his phone number too, just in case Namjoon would have any difficulty.
Cooking wasn't a big hassle. Fortunately the house was stuffed with some snacks, which did not need to be cooked. So, he quickly whipped some simple dishes for lunch and left instructions on how to use the microwave, to heat the food in case it got cold.
Taking a final look at the house, Jungkook headed to his university. He took a bus, taking him straight to it. While he was seated, his phone rang. Looking at the caller ID, a small smile made its way to his face.
He pressed the call button to answer and Jimin's voice made its way to his ears. "So, how was it?" Jimin practically screamed into the phone. Chuckling, Jungkook replied, "It went well. Jin, I mean Mr. Kim had to leave early, so he gave me a small tour and asked me to stay at his house. He even provided me with a guest room to stay in."
"Wow! That is good isn't it." Jimin said, as Jungkook hummed in response. "But, what are you going to tell your brother? He wouldn't believe you if you said you needed to stay at someone else's house for seven long weeks." Jimin asked, his voice brimming with concern.
"Well don't worry about that. Hyung has decided to work for the night shift too. So, basically at the times I stay at home, he wouldn't be there. If he does come home, I will tell him that I am with you." Jungkook said.
"Do you think it would be better to lie?" Jimin asked, sounding worried. "I...I don't know. But I am doing it for both of them, Jimin. I don't want to worry them." Jungkook replied.
He was hesitant too, but it had to be done. They needed money and depending on his brother alone, would only lead to his brother getting stressed and tired. He wanted to help, and now he was determined.
"Okay then, meet you at school, you are coming right?" Jimin asked. Jungkook giggled and replied, "Yes, I am. I am on the bus. Meet you in ten minutes."
●●●
As soon as the university was dismissed, Jungkook and Jimin ran to the parking lot. They both boarded Jimin's car, making their way to Jungkook's house. Usually the university ended by four in the evening, but today they were kept behind late for some project.
Jimin had promised to drop Jungkook at his home and then back at Namjoon's house, to which Jungkook was really grateful. As soon as the car stopped at Jungkook’s house, he leaped out and picked up his already packed bag. It was just a big backpack, filled with his clothes and books.
He took a last glance at his room before running downstairs to Jimin’s car, who quickly drove him back to Namjoon's house. After reaching the house, a sigh of relief left both of their lips. Smiling widely, Jungkook bid Jimin goodbye, promising to cook him some delicious meat for his favour, to which Jimin had refused, but gave in to the big doe eyes and adorable pout.
As soon as Jimin left, Jungkook turned around and easily carried his luggage into the house. He had already gotten so late. He just hoped nothing bad had happened while he was not there.
Nearing the house, a strong smell of fire made its way to his nostrils, instantly alerting him. His eyes widened as he ran inside. Looking around, he saw black smoke rising from the kitchen. Dropping his bags on the ground, he ran to the bathroom and brought a bucket of water with him to the kitchen.
He looked in to see the smoke filling the whole kitchen. He moved closer to the source of the smoke. Just as he was going to splash the water, a tall figure emerged from the smoke, scaring the wits out of him. The figure was carrying a plate which had something black, too black to even decipher what it actually was. Straining his eyes, he looked closely at the figure, brushing off the hoards of smoke.
The person standing there was none other than Namjoon. His jaw dropped down, looking at the bulky man, covered with soot all over his face, making him look like a messy kid. His hair looked as if it had been electrocuted, standing out. His blue jacket and white shirt were now covered in black soot.
A sheepish smile spread on Namjoon's lips as he muttered, "Sorry..." Jungkook stood there speechless, looking at the man in front of him. He now understood why Jin told him never to let Namjoon enter the kitchen.
It was a complete disaster.
Two weeks had passed since the kitchen accident. It had taken Jungkook almost three hours to get rid of the black soot & to clean the whole kitchen. He had been exhausted. Namjoon had guiltily apologized for it, nearly twenty times that day.
Namjoon had also promised to pay Jungkook extra money, which Jungkook had accepted. He had come there to work and he was getting paid for it. It wasn't his home, where he had to do it without any pay. Luckily he did not have to cook that day as Namjoon ordered them both some food, which he was really grateful for.
The next day to no one's surprise, Namjoon had returned back to his cold demeanor, glaring at his phone and laptop screens, typing aggressively. The only exchange of words they ever had was a "Good Morning" and a "Good Night".
Honestly Jungkook did not expect more of it. He was an introvert and this was the best way to communicate without getting awkward.
Sighing at the events, Jungkook stared at the window of the bus. Currently he was on his way to his university. He had managed to settle in his temporary room and had also escaped any suspicions built in Junghyun, who had called every single night.
Thinking of his "achievements" he stood up from his seat noticing the approaching university building. He got off the bus and met with Jimin, who was standing near the gate, waiting for him.
"Jimin-shi" Jungkook called out, snickering when he saw an annoyed expression linger on Jimin’s face. Jimin rolled his eyes scoffing at the younger antics, before they both went inside.
"Do you know what day it is today?" Jimin asked Jungkook, who immediately immersed himself in deep thinking before replying, "Friday?"
Jimin gave him a deadpanned face to which Jungkook returned an awkward smile. "Do you think I am an idiot?" Jimin asked, to which Jungkook nodded before aggressively shaking his head.
Jimin narrowed his eyes before saying, "We are getting our results today." Jungkook's eyes widened.
Today was gonna be a long day. A really long one.

"Jeon Jungkook!" The professor called out Jungkook's name. Jungkook stumbled in his steps before reaching the front desk to receive his papers. He knew he would have failed miserably given the time he actually spent reading the other subjects.
He didn't really like the subjects he was studying in his classes, but he really didn't have a choice. Arts was the only other option for him to seek comfort & knowledge. He had to get passing marks, to at least get a scholarship with his sports credits.
As soon as he reached the table, the professor gave him a silent glare. "Jungkook, this is the third time you have failed in my subject this year." The professor said, loud enough for the whole class to be heard.
There were a few snickers heard, which were immediately silenced as a glare was thrown towards them by the professor. Jungkook hung his head low in shame.
"The only subject you have passed is Arts. What about the other subjects?" The professor asked, "This is your last strike for this year. If in the next test you get a grade below C in any of the subjects, I will personally meet with the principal and cancel your sports scholarship." The professor said, making Jungkook's eyes blow wide.
"I take your drastic change in expression as a point that the message is clearly received?" He asked, to which Jungkook nodded his head slowly and replied with a "Yes, sir."
Taking his stack of papers back to his seat, he could feel his brain going fuzzy. He had to get his grades into place or he could lose the only thing that had kept his brother sane until now.
No matter how hard, he had to do it.
●●●
Jungkook grabbed his hair as his hand scribbled on the pages of the book in front of him. He was sitting in the living room and working on his papers only to let frustrated groans when he couldn't understand anything in it.
He had made up his mind to get back his grades, but even the number of pages in it were getting his mind dizzy. Frustrated, he screamed loudly before dumping his head in the book. A pain shot in his head, as a headache started building inside.
Suddenly the front door was pushed open widely and Namjoon entered the house with a big smile and a cover. Jungkook bounced back in his seat at the sound and stared at Namjoon. He did not expect him to come back this soon.
Usually Namjoon comes back at 9 p.m. or later. Jungkook checked the clock to see it was only 6p.m. Namjoon's smile grew when he saw Jungkook, who was staring at him bewildered, as if he had never seen someone smile.
"Hey, Good Evening!" Namjoon said, smiling. "Um, Good Evening" Jungkook awkwardly replied, feeling a bit strange to see the older of the two smiling when it was usually replied by a frown and upside down curve.
"You, you seem happy today." Jungkook said, as Namjoon sat down on the Sofa beside him. "Oh really? What gave away?" He asked.
"I don't know, maybe your smile." Jungkook said, a small smile playing on his lips. It wasn't everyday the elder was this happy, and it somehow suited him very much, with the dimples beautifully adoring his cheeks.
"Well, I had been dealing with work for three weeks and it has finally been sealed off. It was one of the hardest deals my company had worked on so I am happy that it is finally over." Namjoon said. He didn't know why he was explaining it to Jungkook, but Namjoon had always been like that. He may have been humble but he loved sharing his experience with people and this was none other than that.
Jungkook didn't completely understand what the deal was but he was genuinely happy for Namjoon after seeing him work for long hours. "Congratulations!" Jungkook said, to which Namjoon smiled and handed him the cover.
"There are donuts, you can eat some of them." Namjoon said. Jungkook looked shocked but he nodded and thanked him.
"So, what are you doing?" Namjoon said, his eyes shifting to the pile of books spread on the table. "I was doing my assignments." Jungkook said, sighing.
"Oh, are they a bit tough?" Namjoon asked bending to pick one of the papers. "Yeah" Jungkook replied, adding 'Very very damn much' in his mind.
Namjoon studied the paper for about ten seconds before asking, "This is easy, do you want some help?"
Jungkook declined almost immediately, shaking his head. However Namjoon already started taking a look at the textbook and notes.
"Sure," Jungkook replied.
●●●
Jungkook slumped on his bed. He was tired, but at least his assignments were done. All thanks to Namjoon, who helped him with all of it. It had actually gone over his head the first time Namjoon had explained it to him. Thankfully he held a lot of patience while teaching Jungkook because of which he understood it the second time. Or maybe the third time.
He had thanked Namjoon so many times for the help, that Namjoon had offered him an offer that he could never decline. He promised to tutor him for as long as he stayed with him, and that too for free!
Jungkook had almost hugged Namjoon for the amount of gratitude he felt. Since he couldn't do that, he instead bowed and thanked him. He now regretted taking that money for the kitchen incident, although Namjoon had pushed aside any mention of it.
Jungkook had always wanted to take extra tutoring classes to tune his grades but his financial situation didn't really help. So when Namjoon had offered help he was too happy to even think of declining it. He may have been a little hesitant but his grades had become so important that he couldn't just ignore them.
It is not always a difficulty when met with an opportunity that holds a benefit to both the persons abided to it.
●●●
Two more weeks passed and Jungkook found him sitting in his regular spot, waiting for Namjoon. These two weeks slowly grew him out of his shell and made him feel comfortable with Namjoon.
Their conversations grew long enough for Jungkook to know that Namjoon's favorite color is black and he has a dog named Rapmon, who is currently with his parents. He also got to know that Namjoon loves Iced Americano and loves to work out too. Another amazing thing he discovered was that Namjoon wrote songs and rapped underground during his college days with the nickname Runch Randa.
And on top of that, Namjoon devised a plan for Jungkook to remember every little detail and topics by asking him questions at any point in between their conversations. It was irritating at first but really sharpened Jungkook's memory.
He was still behind a lot of topics but now he could feel himself doing a bit better than before. He just prayed to God that his final exams go well and he passes all his subjects.
Tired of waiting for Namjoon, Jungkook opened his sketch book and started doodling on it. He didn't know if it was accidental or not, but his doodles slowly turned into raw sketches of Namjoon. While detailing the small highlights on his face and structure, Jungkook actually started realising how keenly he had detailed the drawing.
He didn't even know when he had started paying so much interest on the elder to even know the different way his hair was parted, or the way his dimples were situated on his cheeks, or the way his beautiful eyes were assembled, or the way his nose was structured.
As the details were added, Jungkook found himself drowning in an emotion that he couldn't identify. It wasn't lust or love, nor was it friendship. It was something too distinct yet so close to the three emotions that Jungkook couldn't put a finger on it.
As he put the last stroke of pencil on the page the door opened and Namjoon entered the house. Shocked at the entry, Jungkook hastily stuffed the book into his bag just in time for Namjoon to enter the room.
"Were you waiting for long?" Namjoon asked, as usual smiling his pretty dimple smile that Jungkook had started getting fond of. "N-No!" Jungkook stuttered, as a blush creeped onto his neck out of embarrassment.
Namjoon stared at him for a moment before shrugging it off. "Okay. I am gonna take a shower and come. Can you prepare an Iced Americano for me?" He asked me while loosening his tie.
"Sure!" Jungkook replied, before dashing into the kitchen, stumbling a few steps in between, leaving a bewildered Namjoon behind.
Jungkook clutched his chest tightly. His heart was beating at an unsteady pace. It was as if he had run a hundred miles. The dimple smile still lingered in his mind as his thoughts started questioning him.
He couldn't have a crush on Namjoon could he?
●●●
The next few days were really awkward for both Namjoon and Jungkook. Jungkook tried avoiding any type of conversation with Namjoon, who was determined to speak with Jungkook. The tutoring classes were the only time Jungkook and Namjoon had a conversation where they didn't think of anything else but studies.
Currently they were sitting in the living room after eating lunch. Jungkook was completing his assignment while Namjoon was working. Jungkook stole a glance of Namjoon, who was working on his laptop.
Jungkook didn't know what was stopping him from speaking to Namjoon. Was it because of the stupid crush he had developed or the fact that Namjoon had a boyfriend who he probably loved so much to even bother about him.
Sighing, he closed his books and made his way to his bedroom, without Namjoon noticing. He immediately slumped on the bed and scrolled through the contact list on his phone to call Jimin. He needed a friend, and who else was better than Jimin himself. He immediately called him and to his luck his call was picked up in two rings.
"Hey Jungkook" Jimin’s voice came out weaker than usual. "Jimin? Are you fine? You sound weak." Jungkook asked, concerned. "Well I do have a slight fever. Nothing much, don't worry." Jimin said, betraying himself as soon as he coughed loudly, which felt painful even to hear.
"Yeah sure. That cough really didn't seem like much. Are you alone?" Jungkook asked. "Yeah, I am." Jimin replied sniffing. "Okay I will bring you some soup then." Jungkook said.
"You don't need to." Jimin said, a pout already visible in Jungkook's mind. "But I will. Wait for me, I will be there in 20minutes." Jungkook said, Ending the call before rushing downstairs.
By the time he reached downstairs, he couldn't find Namjoon around. He quickly made the soup and left a message for Namjoon to see, before sprinting out the house, locking the door on his way.
There were two reasons Jungkook was going to Jimin’s. One Jimin needed someone to look after him, and two Jungkook needed someone to talk to.
●●●
Namjoon was sitting at the coffee shop waiting for one of his clients to arrive. Sipping his favorite iced americano, his thoughts fought for his attention.
He of course gave importance to the one that was about a certain brunette he had started to get comfortable with. These last two weeks Namjoon actually had felt relieved and happy because of Jungkook.
The pouty lips and whispered cursing Jungkook let out during the study sessions were beyond amusing. The way he tried putting effort into his work was fun to look at, especially when he did it the wrong way. Namjoon felt himself growing adoration for the younger.
It definitely wasn’t lust. Maybe he had a thing for Jungkook's body at first, but now it was mostly the sparkling doe eyes, the bunny teeth and the giggles that filled the house. It was much more than attraction yet less than love. Maybe the emotion was just liking. But whatever it was Namjoon had come to love it.
He had actually decided to play the cold tag with Jungkook, but the sealing of the deal took off his load and he had tried introducing a new part of himself to Jungkook, which he had seen the younger feeling comfortable with.
The only thing he didn't understand was why Jungkook had started avoiding him when everything had started settling well in between them.
Did he do something wrong? Or was Jungkook feeling uncomfortable with him?
His thoughts came to an abrupt stop when his client rushed towards the table. Brushing off the dust on his suit, he straightened his back welcoming the client to sit on the opposite seat.
"Good Evening. My name is Kim Namjoon." Namjoon introduced himself. The other man nodded, taking his hand before introducing himself.
"Good Evening. My name is Jeon Junghyun."
●●●
Jungkook rushed between the bedroom and kitchen, bringing in the soup and food. Jimin just watched Jungkook guiltily, feeling apologetic for burdening the younger.
"Here!" Jungkook exclaimed, placing the soup on the table in front of Jimin. "And don't think of saying either Thank you or Sorry. I am not gonna accept those." Jungkook said as Jimin glared at him.
"Then what would you accept?" Jimin asked, slurping in the soup. "Umm, maybe some advice." Jungkook mumbled, fiddling with his fingers.
Jimin looked confused at the request, but nodded. "Okay, but let me finish the soup first." He said, to which Jungkook nodded happily.
As soon as Jimin finished his soup, he pushed aside the bowl and looked Jungkook straight in the eye. "So, what did you wanna ask?" He asked.
Hesitating Jungkook explained everything that had happened in the last four weeks, without leaving a single detail. He even explained the kitchen incident, making Jimin chuckle at the clumsiness of a certain someone. Finishing the story Jungkook added a statement.
"I-I think I have a crush on Namjoon." Jungkook said, hesitantly. Jimin looked at him shocked before straightening back his face. "Crush? Are you sure it is not admiration or some other sort?" Jimin asked carefully.
"I-I really don't know. Just, Just look at this." Jungkook said, shoving his phone which had a picture of his drawing of Namjoon. Jimin looked at the picture with a smile before looking at Jungkook. "It doesn't necessarily have to be a crush. You don't feel like dating him or living with him or any other sexual thoughts, do you?" He asked.
"No, I don't really have that. Maybe it is admiration or maybe just attraction?" Jungkook asked, looking at Jimin, who smiled gently. "That is for you to find out." Jimin said, making Jungkook groan in frustration.
"And you don't really have to listen to anyone. Just follow your heart, but not in the wrong way. If it takes you to a cliff to jump off from, pull it back and guide yourself back to a sane path." Jimin said.
"And remember something Jungkook, never try to hurt anyone in a relationship intentionally or unintentionally, whether you are a part of it or not. Promise me you won't." Jimin asked.
Jungkook looked shocked at Jimin’s statement. He didn't understand why Jimin had spoken such words. After pondering for a while he promised Jimin.
"I won't, no matter what." He said.
●●●
After Jungkook had washed the dishes and left them to dry, he headed back to Jimin’s bedroom, where the other had already dozed off. Jungkook sighed. He wasn't annoyed or angry. He understood that Jimin must have felt too tired to stay awake.
Shaking his head slightly he laid Jimin properly in bed and covered him with a blanket. He did a quick scan before locking the door and pushing the key inside. He then left for Namjoon's house.
He was still remembering Jimin’s words. He had actually spoken the truth. Just because someone showed you comfort and help, doesn't necessarily mean that they should love you. It doesn't really feel like love. He admired Namjoon. His way of approaching and how he got his work done. The level of determination and presentation. The focus he had and the way he spoke surprised him and he was sure it affected everyone the same.
It was maybe a momentary reaction to see someone reaching him to help or maybe the difference in the area they both were raised in. Jungkook started convincing himself that no matter who was in his place, Namjoon would have done the same, and it wasn't a lie. Namjoon was a spokesperson. His thoughts differed from Jungkook and maybe if a person of the same age and morality had entered they might have gone through the same.
However the only thing that bugged him was the way Namjoon's eyes dulled when he avoided any talk. He just wanted to stop his stupid heart, but it still hurt him to see him suffer. He looked at the passing people swinging and enjoying each other's company. They all didn't seem to care about others and looked happy.
That was when it clicked Jungkook. They never really have to name whatever they have. Staying in their limits and playing their own parts would be enough. He now didn't mind if it was a crush. He wasn't gonna lose a beautiful bond just because his heart started playing things. He would bring himself together and rebuild that bond he had avoided these few days.
It doesn't matter if it lasts only for three more weeks. He was gonna fulfill whatever his role was in this bond. He wanted to do it.
However minor his role might be.
Jungkook sat on the couch staring at the message in his phone. He had been so bent on his stupid crush that he had completely forgotten about the exams that were going to start in a week's time.
His insides were already twisting in fear, doubting every possibility of even passing the subjects. His hands trembled and his mind went blank.
What was he going to do about it? He had no idea.
He had only now started understanding his subjects as they were supposed to be understood. All this now seemed bigger than the stupid crush he was crying out for two weeks. He had no idea on how to deal with any of this.
Anxiety started kicking into his system as the syllabus was posted on the university page. Scrolling through them, a sigh of relief left him as he spotted a few chapters that he had grown confident in.
As he was looking through all of them, a knock interrupted him. Still looking at his phone, Jungkook opened the front door to meet with Namjoon. As soon as his eyes met the visitor, an awkward silence filled around both of them.
"Hey" Jungkook said, giving a small smile, trying to break the awkward tension. Heaving a sigh of relief, Namjoon smiled replying, "Hey"
With that he entered the house and sat on the couch. After taking a moment to get comfortable, Namjoon asked, "So, how is Jimin?"
"Could be better. He is taking rest for now. He will hopefully be better by tomorrow." Jungkook replied, taking a seat. "How did yours go?" He asked.
Namjoon smiled, for the third time that evening. "Could be better." He replied, making Jungkook throw in a small smile.
That started a conversation between the both of them. A simple yet sweet one, that didn't mix any stupid crushes or feelings. One that felt like good friends, one that didn't mess with your head, one which felt good and one which brought relief.
Relief, to both of them.
●●●
"So, you are gonna have exams in a week?" Namjoon asked, looking at the marks of Jungkook’s previous tests.
"Yes," Jungkook replied. "Would it be too much to ask for help for this week?" Jungkook asked, hesitantly.
Namjoon thought for a while before replying, "Yes, it would be." Jungkook looked down, pouting, "But not if I offered it." Namjoon added, making Jungkook smile with his bunny smile.
"So, what are you waiting for? Let's get started!" Namjoon said enthusiastically. Jungkook looked at the other with a hint of shock. "Now?" He asked.
"Yes, why? Do you have anything to do now?" Namjoon asked. Jungkook looked at the clock, which displayed 8 pm. "No. Nothing at all." He replied.
"Ok then bring in your notebooks and materials. I will freshen up and come." Namjoon said, before going up.
●●●
A week of exhaustion passed by and Jungkook's exams came up. The week was filled with ratting up hundreds of papers while doing assignments handed by both Namjoon & his teachers.
Jungkook was terrified to be honest, but he held himself up, at least in front of Namjoon, who was proud of Jungkook for completing all his assigned assignments and works.
Jungkook entered the exam hall with trembling hands. He was scared. If he couldn't do this set of exams well, there was a good chance that his scholarship could be torn away from him.
So, when the exam paper was put forward, a tear slipped down his eyes and onto the paper. He was relieved! There was actually something on paper that he could write and it was enough to pass his subjects!
He was surprised that he had been able to distinguish between two different topics in a subject. Usually, he just gobbled up a chapter and wrote all the same answers for different questions. It wasn't because he was a dumb, It was because he didn't have time to revise all his subjects before exams.
Taking a deep breath, Jungkook began writing down the exam. He had vomited all the answers he had memorized. To his surprise, the first exam went by well, which added to Jungkook’s confidence in the approach of his exams. In a week, Jungkook's exams successfully finished making him fly to the moon.
As soon as they were done, Jungkook hit Jimin’s place, from where they both went for a little ice cream date to celebrate the completion of exams.
Not knowing the series of surprises that were waiting for him at home.
●●●
"Hey! I am home." Namjoon said, as he walked into the house. Jungkook walked out of the kitchen with a smile and a cake he had baked. He added it with all the delicacies he had prepared on the table.
"Oh, is it your birthday?" Namjoon asked guiltily. Jungkook shook his head, smiling. "Is it my birthday?" Namjoon asked, to which Jungkook stood surprised.
"Is it?" Jungkook asked, now feeling guilty himself. "Nah, I was just messing with you." Namjoon replied, while sitting on the dining table.
"So, who is this for?" Namjoon asked, pointing at the cake, "Are we gonna have any guests?"
"Oh, it is actually a gift, I guess." Jungkook replied. "Oh, well for whom?" Namjoon asked, pouting at the thought of Jungkook giving it to someone else.
"For You." Jungkook said, smiling.
"Me? Why?" Namjoon asked, bewildered. "Well, you see, because of you I could at least write something that related to the subjects I was studying." Jungkook said, giving a cheeky smile.
"Since you didn't want me to give you money for this, I decided to prepare all your favorites for Dinner!" Jungkook said, dramatically whipping his hands out.
Namjoon smiled and said, "You didn't need to do tha-" Namjoon paused looking at a particular dish, "Wait, is that Kalguksu?" He asked, looking at Jungkook, with big eyes. "Yes, it is." Jungkook said, smiling at the enthusiastic eater, Namjoon.
"Oh Please join me." Namjoon asked Jungkook to join him, which after a minute or two he did.
They both had a beautiful evening, filled with a delicious dinner, a comfortable atmosphere, a wonderful talk and an emotion that surpassed its way from confusion to comfort.
●●●
In all the excitement Jungkook had almost forgotten about his brother and mother, who were waiting anxiously from him at their home. It had already been past their bedtimes and Jungkook was nowhere to be seen.
It had always been a rule that Jungkook would have to have a meal with them after his exams, so he could tell them all about it. There usually wasn't that much to tell, so he diverted them with sports. It was like a family dinner where all the three of them would be present for at least then.
Junghyun dialed Jungkook’s number and called him. After about five or six missed calls, Jungkook picked up the call.
"Jeon Jungkook." Junghyun called Jungkook’s name, almost lifting out Jungkook's soul with the call.
Sitting abruptly in his bed, Jungkook stared at his phone with bloodshot eyes. Looking at the time and date, his eyes filled with guilt. He was supposed to meet his mom and brother today!
Cursing at himself he held his phone near his ear. "Hyung?" Jungkook asked, his throat gettinging drier with every breath. He was dead scared of his brother’s outbursts, and he knew he had to deal with one now.
"Where the hell are you?" And with that it began. "Do you even know what time it is? Mom and I have been waiting for three hours. Where are you?" Junghyun asked Jungkook in a stern tone.
"I-I am with, uhm Jimin." Jungkook said, unsure of what he was saying. "After the last exam we went to his house to um, celebrate."
It seemed eerily silent on the other side. Jungkook’s heart was beating rapidly. After a long sigh, Junghyun spoke again. "Okay. Is Jimin there?" He asked.
"He is sleeping. I will get you to talk to him tomorrow." Jungkook said, sighing silently. "No need for that. I am gonna come and pick you up by myself tomorrow. Get ready by 8 am. I will meet Jimin then too." Junghyun said, Ending the call.
Cursing at himself Jungkook immediately called Jimin. He was sure the older one was currently watching movies or something, since it was still Friday. In about three calls, Jimin picked.
"Yeah, yeah, I am up and about. You're gonna have to pass Jungkook to kill me! You can kill him first, I don't mind." Jimin screamed into the phone. Taken aback by the sound, Jungkook stared at his phone.
Shaking his head disapprovingly, Jungkook replied, "Hyung, it is me Jungkook." Jimin immediately responded with a guilty voice, "Oh, hey Jungkook. What a pleasant surprise."
"I should say that. I didn't know you would sell me out to a stranger like that. Thank you Hyung, I owe you so much." Jungkook responded, sarcasm dripping through his words.
"I am sorry! I was watching this Psycho Thriller and I thought he called me too, you know, because all his victims have the surname Park." Jimin said, explaining his crime.
Jungkook sighed. "Okay enough of that, why did you call at this hour?" Jimin asked, yawning. "Well, I have a favor to ask." Jungkook said, taking his turn at feeling guilty.
After explaining everything that was to be explained, Jungkook waited for Jimin’s response to his situation. After a minute or so Jimin responded.
"Knowing your brother, he is gonna probably come two hours before the time and guard the whole area. I will come now and pick you up. Leave a message for Namjoon, and bring some of your clothes and books." Jimin said.
Jungkook nodded, before realising that Jimin couldn't see him. Cursing at himself again, he replied, "Okay. I will be down in ten minutes." With that he hung up.
It took him ten minutes to get ready and pack his bag. He scribbled a message and left it on the kitchen table. Looking around one more time, he left the house, closing it with his key.
●●●
When Namjoon woke up the next day, the least he expected was to be alone at home. So, when Namjoon did come across the note, he decided on going out to eat instead of going into the kitchen. Well, he did learn from his last experience!
Putting on his shoes and hoodie, Namjoon took his bicycle and rode down the street. There was an excellent lunch stop down the street, Jin approved. It had already passed 11 in the morning so he decided to get a brunch.
Paddling down the street, Namjoon started pondering on the thought of why Jungkook had suddenly left. Some of his luggage was still there, so he had assumed it was only temporary.
After parking his bicycle near the entrance, Namjoon entered the restaurant. It was a small restaurant that was owned by an old couple. It had a homey atmosphere which both Jin and Namjoon loved.
Swiftly moving to his regular seat, Namjoon was met with a surprise, Junghyun, his former client who now worked under him.
"Junghyun?" Namjoon called out. Junghyun turned around, equally surprised. "Namjoon-shi? I did not expect to meet you here." Junghyun replied, bowing. "Neither did I." Namjoon smiled.
"Hyung!" A voice called out from behind Namjoon. He turned around only to receive another surprise.
"Jungkook?"
●●●
Junghyun sat in between Namjoon and Jungkook staring at the two men. Jungkook was staring down at his shoes, waiting for his death, from his brother's hands, while Namjoon was staring at Jungkook.
The awkward silence was interrupted by a fake cough. Both Namjoon and Jungkook looked at Junghyun, who was clearing his throat.
"So, Namjoon-shi, how do you know my brother?" Junghyun asked in a polite tone, which Jungkook considered as a threat. "Um, I didn't know Jungkook was your brother." Namjoon said, "He works at my place as a cook and house caretaker. Jin appointed him."
With each word Jungkook’s blood turned cold. He was now sure that his brother would kick the hell out of him. "You what?" Junghyun asked Jungkook, in a cold and deadly tone. "I told you not to worry about the money, didn't I? What do I have to do to make you listen?" Junghyun scolded Jungkook.
"Hyu-Hyung, I-" Jungkook stammered. His mouth had gone dry and his insides were twisted. He could barely breathe thinking of all he had done.
"Ah, Junghyun-shi. You don't have to worry about Jungkook." Namjoon said, "I know it is none of my business, but Jungkook has been doing good in his studies. I tutor him after work. You don't need to worry about his studies."
Junghyun looked at Namjoon nervously. "But, he is too young. I don't want him to work because of me. I have already told you about my mother's condition. I don't want him to share that burden too." Junghyun said.
"But I want to, Hyung." Jungkook said. "I want to help you. I promise I won't let it interfere with my studies."
Junghyun stared at both of them contemplating the situation at hand. Sighing, he nodded. "Okay, I will allow you to work." Junghyun said, spreading a smile on both Namjoon and Jungkook's face. "But, If you don't pass this term's exams, you won't be doing any sort of work and will come back home." Junghyun said.
Jungkook hesitated for a moment, before nodding. "Okay, I will do as you say if I fail this time too." Jungkook said, making Junghyun smile.
Giving his word, Jungkook and the other two started devouring their food which had just been placed on their tables.
●●●
"Hey Jungkook!" Namjoon called out. He was currently going through some of his emails when he suddenly came across an interesting one. It was a Carnival that was being held in Seoul. One of his clients had offered him some tickets for it.
"Yes?" Jungkook said, entering the room. "Are you by any chance free this weekend?" Namjoon asked. Thinking for a while Jungkook nodded.
"Yes, I am. Is there anything I have to do?" Jungkook asked, tilting his head. Chuckling, Namjoon showed him the Carnival Poster.
As soon as the colorful poster was shown, Jungkook’s eyes grew as big as saucers. "Oh my god! Isn't it the Seoul Carnival! I love that place! Although I could go only once, because of Jimin." Jungkook said, looking at the poster.
"Would you like to go with me this weekend?" Namjoon asked, smiling at the sparkling doe eyes. "Yes, yes, a thousand times Yes!" Jungkook said, giggling at his own squeaky voice.
Saying so, Jungkook made his way out, humming a tune while bouncing on his bunny heels. Amused at the younger's antics, Namjoon smiled before going back to his work.
●●●
Jungkook’s doe eyes sparkled with stars looking at the giant entrance of the Carnival. The atmosphere brought immense happiness and joy into him, making him smile his bunny smile at full display.
"You like it that much?" Namjoon asked, smiling at the younger of the two. "Like it? I love it! Thank you so much Namjoon hyung." Jungkook said.
Namjoon was taken aback by the younger calling him hyung. "Hyung?" Namjoon asked. "Well, you are older than me and you told me I have to call you something other than Mr. Kim, so I decided on hyung. Is it okay?" Jungkook asked, showing his puppy eyes.
"Sure. It is fine." Namjoon said, ruffling the younger's head with adoration. "So, which one should we go on first?" Namjoon asked.
Jungkook’s eyes lit up!
"The Drop Tower!"
●●●
Namjoon drank another bottle of water. He had lost all his strength in the three rides he had gotten on. The younger was still trying on every ride in the place, smiling widely.
He was happy Jungkook liked it, but he wasn't really happy about going to the washroom three times. Exhausted he sat on a bench, gaining back his strength. He watched Jungkook hop from one ride to another, trying every single one of them.
His staring contest was abruptly interrupted by a phone call. Frowning, he picked up Jin’s call. Jin never called unless there was an emergency.
"Jin hyung?" Namjoon called out. "Namjoon, are you at home?" Jin asked. His voice sounded strained and worried. "No, I am outside hyung. Why?" He asked.
"Namjoon-ah, that stupid old man stole all my work. He erased all the backup files I saved on my laptop." Jin cried. "Oh no! That man is such a bastard." Namjoon said, feeling sorry for Jin.
"I know! Stupid man! But leave him. I remember saving another backup file in your laptop. Can you please send it to me. I need it in two hours. It is very important for this to work out. This can be my only chance left against him." Jin said.
"Ok hyung. I will send it right away." Namjoon said, running to the entrance. He ran to the house, talking to Jin on the phone.
He never saw back.
If he had, he would have seen a worried Jungkook calling out his name.
●●●
Namjoon clicked the enter button and sent the file to Jin, who thanked him profusely. Sighing a deep breath of relief, Namjoon looked out the window. It had suddenly started raining.
His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. Making his way to the door, a certain someone entered his thoughts. Jungkook! He had left him there!
Opening the door, he was met with a completely wet Jungkook, who had a blank expression on his face. "Oh my god! Jungkook, I am so sorry! I did not do that purposefully. Jin called and he said he needed something immediately. And-" His ramble was stopped by Jungkook who pressed his wet lips against Namjoon's.
Before Namjoon could even realize what the other was doing, Jungkook collapsed in his arms. Catching him, Namjoon realized that Jungkook was burning hot. He was having a fever!
●●●
Namjoon dipped the cloth in water before squeezing it and putting it top on Jungkook’s head. Apparently Jungkook had a high fever, and the doctor said it was because of the rain.
Namjoon felt guilty for leaving Jungkook alone. If he had been more careful, Jungkook would have been happy and healthy now. Resting his fingers on his lips, Namjoon relished the sweet moment that had taken place.
He had not expected Jungkook to do that. Maybe Jungkook was just dizzy and maybe mistook Namjoon for someone else? Even the thought made Namjoon clench his fist.
Looking down he realized how happy he actually felt with Jungkook around. Seeing him sick killed him. He was so scared when Jungkook collapsed in his arms. It was an achievement that he even had the strength and mindset to call a doctor at such a time.
Namjoon was independent when it came to work and other intellectual things, but when it came to the minor house chores or works he was too dependent. He had always known that when Jin was around.
Jin was more like a brother. He was free to scold and do anything. It just felt different with Jungkook. Maybe because he was being paid or for other reason, Jungkook always tried to find some positive act in all of his destruction. Even in the kitchen accident, he didn't complain and just thanked him for not hurting himself.
Namjoon smiled at the small yet memorable events that had taken place in the last few weeks. It was amazing. There were some Ups and downs, but yet it just seemed perfect to him.
When Namjoon had started opening up to Jungkook, he did not expect the younger one to grow on him. Maybe he had opened it a bit too much.
But did he regret it? No. Not once.
●●●
The next day Namjoon sat Jungkook down and explained to him all that had happened yesterday. He apologized about 50 times. Jungkook just shot him a small smile and forgave him.
As soon as he forgave him, Namjoon hugged Jungkook and left for work. Jungkook’s smile faded along with Namjoon.
The dizzy kiss still lingered in his thoughts. A spark had glowed in him, when he had seen Namjoon approach him. But he knew by Namjoon's words that the kiss did not mean anything to him.
But at least he had gotten what he wished for. He didn't want a serious relationship or anything. He was happy with that one memory, however hazy it might be. He could hold on to it for now.
He couldn't do much. He was just a worker under him. It was not like he was his boyfriend. Jungkoom chuckled humorlessly at the thought of even being one. It was just a dream. He just hoped it wouldn't turn into a creepy nightmare.
One that he was ready to hide from.
●●●
Another week turned in and Jin was standing at the door. He wore a bright smile. He hugged Namjoon as soon as he saw him. They both started talking. Jin explained all of that had happened, dramatically whipping his hands in all directions.
Namjoon listened with a smile. He had missed Jin. It wasn't that he felt bored or anything. The elder just had this charm that brought happiness to everyone around him.
Jungkook stood in the kitchen, contemplating on when to go out. He felt guilty facing Jin. He didn't know why but just the thought of Jin scolding him or calling him out scared him. His thoughts were interrupted by Jin’s voice.
"Jungkook! Come out! I brought something for you!" Jin said, as Jungkook walked out. He handed Jungkook a check and a small gift box. Jungkook hesitantly took it.
"I usually don't give gifts to everyone who works, but since I asked you for seven weeks, here is a small gift. You were so good. I constantly heard praises from Namjoon." Jin said, chuckling. "Thank you so much, Kook."
Jungkook’s eyes welled with tears. "Thank you, hyung." Jungkook said, as Jin embraced him in a hug. "You're welcome." Jin said, smiling widely.
"Oh, I need to take a bath. I will meet you afterwards." Jin said, going into his room.
"Thank you, hyung. For everything." Jungkook said, looking at Namjoon. Namjoon sighed. "I should be thanking you." He said.
Jungkook chuckled. He gave Namjoon a last hug, before turning around and leaving to his room. Namjoon sat down on the couch, reprimanding his decisions.
He couldn't just let him go. Could he?
●●●
The door closed shut and Namjoon and Jin sat back down on the couch. Namjoon sighed while Jin gave him a chocolate.
"I thought you would have stopped him." Jin said, taking a bite of his chocolate. "What?" Namjoon asked, bewildered.
"Oh, don't give me that look. I can see just from your eyes, how you were begging him to stay. I am not blind, like you two." Jin said.
"But I really didn't have any right to stop him. Did I?" Namjoon asked. "I don't know. You could have. But you chose not to." Jin said, shrugging his shoulders.
"Hey! I was just staying loyal to you." Namjoon said, making Jin scoff. "Yeah, like I have been loyal to you." He said.
"We both knew we could date others, as this was a mask to make others believe. You should have told him the same." Jin said. "Now, don't make that golden retriever face. If you really do have a chance, you will surely get another chance. Don't worry."
"Maybe." Namjoon said, munching on his chocolate.
●●●
Two years flew by.
Jungkook and Jimin both graduated with flying colors. Jimin took charge in his father’s company while Jungkook got a job under the Kim firms, where he was sure to meet someone he had waited for years.
The stupid crush Jungkook had named, grew into a major one as the distance grew between them. Instead of letting it downfall him, he made it his goal to meet Namjoon in a better position.
Jungkook grew himself into an outstanding adult. He was responsible, patient and supportive. His mother died two year back, leaving Junghyun and Jungkook to support each other. Junghyun married a beautiful woman and they now have a one year old kid, who loved his uncle Jungkook very much.
Because of the lack of space, Jungkook moved in with Jimin, who was more than happy to have him as his roommate. As time flew, Jimin met the man of his dreams, Taehyung. All the three now lived in the same house. He was happy, and he knew the last piece was a certain Kim that he had worked so hard for.
Jungkook pulled out his favorite suit and dressed up. He carried his bag and entered the Kim Firm. Taking in the moment he entered the building.
Jungkook got called in. Making his way inside, his heart started beating rapidly. He was nervous yet happy. He knocked on the door, to hear the same voice he had anticipated to hear
"Come in."
Slowly opening the door, he met Namjoon. His hair was brown, body dressed in a silver suit. A dark blue tie settled in the middle. Namjoon raised his head to meet with the surprise.
His lips widened into a smile, dimples pressing into his cheeks, showing his happiness.
"Jungkook?" Namjoon called out.
"Namjoon hyung." Jungkook said, smiling.
This was certainly a new journey, and Jungkook was set to make it his. He didn't cross his paths with him twice, just for a memory.
It was to seal a deal for a lifetime.
And this time, Jungkook was set to mark it his.
