Chapter 8 - The upcoming, welcoming formal
"That following day . . ."
"Alright class, before we close off for today, I would like to announce the upcoming welcoming formal that will be taking part within the next months." The teacher said, before setting his textbook down on the desk.
"A welcoming, formal?" Felicia whispered to Nicholas who sat near her.
"I didn't even know we had one of those." He shrugged.
"As you all know, preparations will have to be done in order to bring things together. The school's staff have already been taking care of the majority of things, like the DJ, the foods, and whatnot. We need volunteers to help set things up. While we're doing our part, you students will be doing yours. We can't have a formal without a proper budget, so visit the principal's office to sign in your names before you leave. There, he'll fill you in on all the details. Although that is, for all the students who want to help out." The teacher said, as he walked across the classroom.
"Um, sir Eliot?" The redhead student said, with her arm lifted in the air.
"Yes Scarlett?" The teacher answered.
"Must our dates be the students within this school?" She questioned.
"Yes Scarlett." The teacher nodded, leaving the student with a frown.
Same time, the bell rang, notifying the students that it was the end of class.
The students got up and headed out the door immediately, impatient to get out school. Meanwhile, Nicholas waited on Felicia who was still gathering her stationery.
"Ms Gordon." The teacher said, while making his way towards Felicia.
"Yes, sir Eliot?" Felicia said, with her hands behind her back.
"Next week, my son Chris will be transferring here and well, you are one of the most delightful students that's ever attended this school. So I was hoping, if it's not too much trouble, would you like to maybe, show him around when the time comes?" Mr Eliot questioned, scratching the back of his head.
"I, would love to!" Felicia said with excitement.
"Great then! So it's settled, next week Monday" The teacher stated.
"Next week it is." Felicia smiled, as the two shook hands on agreement.
After waving the teacher goodbye, Felicia didn't linger to head up to the principal's office. Of course, Nicholas followed her the way.
"I don't understand. How come Chris Jones is Mr Eliot's son? Isn't he the principal's?" Nicholas questioned.
"They're both Chris's fathers." Felicia replied, stepping up the flight of stairs.
"What!" Nicholas said in shock.
"Don't tell me that-"
"No Nichols they're not gay." Felicia assured with a giggle.
"Oh thank God." Nicholson said with relief.
"You see, Mr Eliot was Chris's original father. He divorced his wife, and she remarried to the principal Mr Alec." Felicia explained, knocking on the door at last.
"Enter." Said a male voice.
"Mr, Alexander?" Felicia said, slowly stepping into the office.
It's cool air made every inch of her tremble.
"Felicia, it's nice to see you." Mr Alec said plainly, while his focus was glued to the files he was signing.
"Um, I'm here to-"
"Sign up for the formal preparations?" Alec interrupted.
"Yes sir." Felicia said, pulling in her lips, as she felt nervous.
"Same here." Nicholas said, putting a hand on her shoulder, causing them both to loose themselves in a gaze.
"Alright then, sign here please." The principal said, sliding a form towards them both, breaking their moment.
After an awkward chuckle between them, Felicia took the pen passed to her, and signed her name on the dotted line. Nicholas did the same, and slid the sheet of paper back towards the principal, who attached it to his clipboard.
They were then handed a schedule that listed the things that needed to be done.
"Thank you for volunteering, and I hope to see some progress when the time comes." Mr Alec said, before waving Felicia and Nicholas goodbye.
Putting on his best gentleman act, Nicholas opened the office door, and created an exit for Felicia. On her way out, she revived a shy, and uncertain smile from him, which made her giggle.
The two made their way down the stairs, and glimpsed a few students who were on their way up.
"I cannot believe it." Nicholas said, stretching his arms into the air, while exiting the school.
"The school's having a welcoming formal"
He added, turning to Felicia who was staring at the students that headed up the flight of stairs.
"Felicia." He repeated, causing the girl to swing her head his way.
"Yes Nicholas?" She snapped.
"You saw something, didn't you?" Nicholson said, crossing his arms.
"What would you do if I said yes?" Felicia smirked, placing her hands on her hips.
"You'll prove my theory true." Nicholas uttered, bringing himself closer the his friend, and leaning in, only leaving two inches between their noses.
"Then no." Felicia replied, creating a gap three feet gap between them, and then walking off.
"Are you coming?"
Nicholas kept his eyes on Felicia for a moment, and then gave them a roll while lifting the corner of his mouth and shaking his head.
"She knows I'm right." He thought, before cupping his hands around his mouth.
"Hey you know I'm right!" He shouted before catching up to her.
"No Nichols. You're wrong about this whole angel thing." Felicia said, wrapping her hair up in a messy style.
"Then who were you staring at earlier huh? Was it James? Or Kelly? Oh no, let me guess, it was the-"
"Nicholas that's enough." Felicia said calmly, lifting a palm in front of her friend, stopping him by a few inches.
"I do not have an angel, and that's that."
Nicholas gave off a sigh before gently sending down Felicia's hand.
"Okay, okay, I get it, and you're right. Maybe you have a hard time believing in stuff like this. But I'm telling you, it wouldn't hurt to just pay this matter some mind. I know you don't like the idea of having an angel constantly stalking you, but you have to understand that there's more out there than you think." He said, setting his hand on his neck.
"You're really trying to let me open up to this, aren't you?" Felicia giggled, while shaking her head.
"I think so. Is it working?" Nicholas sheepishly grinned.
"You are sweet." Felicia said, before leaning in to kiss him on his cheek.
"I know." Nicholas replied smoothly, while wrapping his fit arms around her.
"So uh, does that mean you'll be my date to the formal?" He added with a charm, and received a bright sparkle from Felicia's hazel brown eyes.
"Yes." she replied with chuckle.
"I'll be you're date."
"Yes!" Nicholas cheered with glee, making Felicia burst out into laughter.
