*Your POV*

*Flashback*

You look around at the pristine conference hall. The ceilings seemed hours away, and it was the biggest room you'd ever seen. You run your fingers along the gold rails of the marble steps and are lead over into the main area. You walk over to a girl who was standing with her support worker. She was wearing a soft beige jacket over her blue dress and black tights. As you got closer she turned and waved. 

"Good morning, I'm Mellisa, but you can call me Missy!" You shook her outstretched hand. "Hi, Missy! I'm Y/N, nice to meet you!" You both smiled at each other. Missy looked at your dress and bag. "I love your clothes!" You smiled. "I love your clothes! Which continent are you from?" You looked at the girl waiting for her to answer. "I'm the European candidate, what about you?" You smile and raise up your lanyard. "I'm from Australia, in Oceania!" She looks at you with her mouth open. "Do you really ride kangaroos to school in Australia? Are drop bears real? Are you scared of spiders?" You giggled as Missy asked more questions. "No, completely, and yes I'm terrified!" 

You talk for a bit before Maria, your support worker leads you away to meet the others. You walk over and see two other girls and three boys. Melissa walks with you and you all introduce yourselves. 

"Hello, I am Li Din Wang, the Asian candidate." You smile as the girl bows to you all. You watch her long, straight, black hair fall in front of her shoulders. She has a big red bow in her hair, matching her black and red dress.

"I am Abasi Kimathi from Africa." The dark-skinned boy fiddles with his slightly oversized coat. He is a head taller than you, but hey, you're only 13, you still have time to grow. He elbows the boy next to him and he starts to speak. 

"Hey guys, I'm Fin. Fin Tiffadian. The North American." He runs his hand through his blonde hair and looks at the girl next to him. She glares at him then turns to you all.

"Kamila Sanchez." You look at her deadpan face and she looks at you. She must be the South American candidate. You pause for a second before speaking.

"Oh, hi I'm the Australian, Y/N Y/L/N." You smile and look at Missy. She smiles and flicks back her brown curls.

"My name is Mellisa Wilkons and it's a pleasure to meet you all." You smile at everyone and think about how hard you worked to get here. Missy looks over to the last boy, who was practically jumping.

"Hey, I'm Ixtli Aaridak from the Arctic." He brings his hand up and waves. You wave back and smile at him. He smiles back as you're all called to sit at your place on a round table. You walk over with Missy and smile. Maria seats you between Kamila and Abasi, and across from Fin. You were sad that you would only be staying in New York for a week, and that the official conference only lasted five days, this was the start of a new, exciting life.

*3rd Person POV*

You spring up, panting heavily. You run your hand through your hair and look over to see a girl with a red jacket sleeping in a chair next to the hospital bed. You watch as she slowly slips down the chair. Her head knocks the back of the chair and she jolts up to see you smiling. She sits up and rubs the back of her head. 

"Hi, I'm Wanda." She looks at you and you just lay back down. "I'm guessing you got me to tell you who I am." You turn your head to glare at her but see her looking at the floor and fiddling with her dress. She turns her head to look at you. "I am so sorry about Tony. He can be a real jerk at times. And he didn't know. And you almost killed him so that's a win." You give her a small smile, she seems nice. You look around at the room. "You didn't do anything. He's the one who should be apologizing, not you." You smile as she takes your hand and squeezes it.

You see something moving out of the corner of your eye and turn your head to see the man once again. He looks at you through the window and you make eye contact. You pull your hand away from Wanda and grab at your neck. Your throat feels like it has a barrier through it, and no air seems to be coming through. You turn, gasping, to Wanda, and without thinking, she brings her hands to your temple.

*Your POV*

*Flashback*

You lay back in the metal chair, your body practically welded down. You look around at the doctors walking around you. You start to wiggle, trying to escape. A man standing at your feet chuckles and pulls a lever. One of the doctors puts something in your mouth and at first, you are confused, but as the metal presses against your skin, you bite down from the unbearable pain. You scream for what feels like hours. When the doctor pulls the lever back, you can still feel the sting from it all. Your face is wet from the tears streaming down your face, and you can see the blood flowing from your aching body.

You fall to the ground, panting. The man paces in front of you. You reluctantly stand up and look at Li Din in front of you. You get back in a fighting stance and strike forward. She uses her super-speed to run around and kick your back. You stumble forward, then turn invisible and punch her. She falls back, and lands outside the blood-splattered ring painted on the concrete floor. The man hits his cane against the ground. "Make yourself visible now." You stand in front of him and reveal yourself. He punches you in the face and kicks Li Din in the stomach. "You should have won quicker, you should have won." He looks between the two of you frowning. He walks out of the room and you help Li Din up. You share a short smile before walking out to your cells.

You look back as you run around the twisting corridors of the base. You see men lifting their guns and opening fire, but the shots are silenced by the not so far away explosives. You stop to look around, trying to figure out which way leads to the surface. You hear screaming from behind you and you run through doors at random. You run through the never-ending labyrinth of the Hydra base you called home. You turn back to see Fin flipping and bending to avoid getting shot, unsuccessfully. You scream and run faster. You reach a set of stairs and start sprinting up them. As you pant you look down over the rail and see Ixtil riping up the railing and hitting something green in the face. 

You reach the top of the stairs and see half of the building collapsing into flames, with Lin Din being flung out a window on the top floor. You run over to her and check for a pulse, nothing. You stand and look around to see Missy falling down. You sprint over and kneel over to her. "Missy, what happened? What's going on? You'll be okay, I promise." Missy looks up at you with a weak smile. "I guess being able to change what you look like isn't exactly a great skill against the avengers." You shake your head. "No, no, no. This can't be happening. Li Din is gone. Fin is gone. Where is Kamila? Is Ixtil okay? What about Abasi? You have to be okay!" Missy turned her head over and lifts her shirt, revealing two bullet wounds in her chest. "Ixtil wasn't as strong as the hulk, I think he's gone. Kamila tried to defuse the bomb, but she thought there was only one. She's gone. Abasi tried to warn me about the gunman, but he just got in the way and then they shot me too. He's gone. And I think we both know that I'll be joining them in a minute." You feel the tears running down your cheek. She lifted her arm to your face and looks sternly into your eyes. "I can hear them coming, I know you can too. Either run, turn invisible, or do both. We can't all die today." You nodded and turned invisible, staying with Missy as she lost her pulse. You looked up just in time to see the second half of the Hydra base crumble to the ground, with fire erupting from inside. As you looked across the field you see one thing through your tears, a face. A man with long dark hair, thick stubble, and a metal arm. 

*Wanda's POV*

I looked up and let my arms fall to my side. I didn't even realize that I was crying. I looked up at Y/N and at Bucky. He was standing outside the room looking confused and concerned, but I just shook my head. I turned my head over to Y/N to see her staring at me scowling. She pushed me off her, shaking. I sat up on the ground and looked at her.

"I can't believe this. I can't believe that I thought you were actually nice, that you were on my side. But no, you're just like Tony. You just used me and put me through pain to find out about me. You guys think you're so good, but at least HYDRA admits that they tortured us." I could see the tears running down her face as she stood up and walked out the door, ignoring Buky and storming out of the medbay.

Bucky walks in and helps me stand up. He looks back at the door. "What the hell was that? Are you okay?" He turns back to me and I just shake my head. "I think we did this."

*Steve's POV*

I couldn't bear to look at anyone. Wanda was standing at the front of the meeting room and just told us about what she saw when she read Y/N's mind. I turned my head to glance at Bucky. He lived through torture and experimentation, but he didn't have to go through seeing all his friends die. I couldn't imagine watching everyone in this room die, it was probably worse than anything HYDRA could do. Tony was the first to speak up.

"I feel that I might have screwed up a little bit. But, in my defense, I knew none of that when I did it." Everyone turned to look at him.

"Might?!" Clint said.

"A little bit?!" I didn't even release that I was speaking. Tony looked at the floor before nodding and sitting back down.

"I can't believe that I helped put her through that." I looked over to Nat who had her head in her hands. Bucky was pacing in a corner, and I could tell that he wanted to punch Tony so hard right now. I stood up. 

"Guys, we should probably find her and apologize. Right now she is walking around an unfamiliar place having just relived the worst moments in her life." Bruce nodded and Clint walked over to the door. 

"We should probably split up, we'll cover more ground that way." I practically jumped. I always forget that Peter is there, and he hardly ever speaks. "Good idea let's go."

A/N

Hey, so I know that there were a lot of flashbacks in this chapter and not a lot of present-day stuff, so yeah. There will be fewer flashbacks, but they will still be sprinkled in there every now and then with maybe one more huge flashback chunk. I also know that I added six characters in this chapter and that is kinda a lot. I hope you are enjoying this story so far! For the candidate names, I just looked up popular names of each continent. I also charged Antarctica to the Arctic because the Artic has indigenous people. So I'm sorry if some of them aren't correct, or if there are much better names that I could have used.

Also, I've changed Peter's age to 17 in this so yeah. He doesn't have to be the endgame but he is an option now that he's not too much younger.

I am uploading a lot because I'm in lockdown right now, and I'll probably change to once a week once I'm out. I hope you like it so far!
