Chapter 12- Is this the End?

*Your POV*

"We found them." You look up at Peter with wide eyes. "We found your family." You take a deep breath. "I... I... my family? Is... this real?" Peter nods and presses a button on a remote. Three faces shoot forward as holograms. You stare at the faces of your parents and sister letting the tears fall. "You could have mentioned that you have an identical twin." You look towards Peter and chuckle. You look back at Ginger, it had been a while.  You absent-mindedly rub your locket, looking at your parents. They look older and more stressed. Was that from you? "They live at a different house now, but they're still in Australia. Your sister goes to university for computer science now." You sigh. "Still a nerd." Peter chuckles. "Says the smartest 13-year-old in Australia." You shake your head and turn to Peter. "Why are you showing this to me?" Peter looks down at the table. "Because you could go back. Mr. Stark is happy to fly you and all your stuff. You don't have to go all at once, you can see them again first if that's..." You interrupt Peter by hugging him. "Thank you."

...

You sit on your bed and look at your room, your bags packed in the corner. You run your fingers over the edge of your locket to calm your nerves, but nothing seems to help. There's a knock at the door and Peter comes in. He sits down next to you and points to your bag. "I see you've already packed." You chuckle. "Well, there wasn't much." You sigh and fall back onto the bed. "I can't believe I'm leaving. I started a whole life here. I mean, not by choice, but still. And I have no idea what my family is like now." You look down and smile as Peter holds your hand. "I'll bet they'll love you. I mean, just because, I think.. that.. you happen... to be... really cool." You smile and hug him. "Well, maybe, to help with my nerves, and in case something happens, you could come with me. I, mean, only if you wanted to, of course." Peter nods. "I would love to. I mean, not love you, but, uh, um, yes."

...

You look out the window of the plain, and smile at Peter. "Oh, and you have to try vegemite! It's amazing. And you have to have shapes as well! Oooh, and of course we just have to get a pavlova! And a Woolies mud cake!" You look over at Peter and see him with his brows furrowed, slowly nodding. "We have shapes in America, you know, circles, rectangles," You gently slap him on the arm. "No, the crackers. You're going to love Australia." Peter smiles and looks out the window too. "Do you think that we'll see a drop bear? Ned told me about them. They are real, aren't they?" You smile. "Completely."

*Peter's POV*

My smile falters for a second. "They are real, aren't they?" Y/N smiles. "Completely." It was weird that she was smiling. Angry koalas creatures that eat people's faces and can only be warded off by eating a whole tube of toothpaste seem like something you don't smile about. "But, aren't you scared that they'll eat your face off?" She looked over at me. "Yeah Nah, one tried to eat my nan, but I think I'll be fine." I look at her horrified. She pats me on the back. "See, everyone tells you about the snakes, spiders, and drop bears, but no one warns you about the magpies." I look at her. "Magpies?" She nods. "Oh yeah, they'll swoop you if you get too close." I shake my head. "Australia seems so dangerous! Next, you'll be telling me you play with possums!" She looks at me with a raised eyebrow. "Possums? Yeah, they are so cute! You see them around in trees and on powerlines and stuff. They just run along, it's so adorable!" I looked at her, mouth agape. Either she's crazy, or she doesn't know what a possum is.

*Your POV*

Peter holds your hand as you walk up the drive to the house. You can barely walk and have to focus on Peter's words to stop yourself from collapsing. "Look, you can do this. It's been six years." You look at him. "It's been six years. What if they've changed? I've missed so much, maybe I should just stay back." Peter stops you and puts his hands on your shoulders. You can't help but feel your cheeks going red. "You are Y/N Y/L/N and you can do this." You nod your head and reach the doorstep. You squeeze Peter's hand and press the doorbell. You look at Peter whose giving you a big thumbs up. What the hell have you done?

A/N

I had to add in drop bears because... I just had to. They are a national treasure. There's nothing more Aussie than a national inside joke. The whole Peter's POV section is just kinda a joke, and I love it. True representation.

So I'm adding a break here because, suspense and also I wanted to make this a separate chapter but it was too short, so yeah.

You squeeze Peter's hand and press the doorbell. You look at Peter whose giving you a big thumbs up. What the hell have you done? Time seems to freeze as you wait for something to happen. You look to Peter. What if no one is home? What if Tony was wrong? Just as tears were about to form in your eyes, you hear footsteps and a familiar voice. "I'll get it!" A girl opens the door and it's like staring into a mirror. She gasps and her hand flies towards her mouth. You can barely hear her voice as she whispers. "It can't be you. Oh my god, it can't be you." She burst forward and squishes you into a hug. Neither of you can help but let out a sob. "It is. It's me." She smiles as you whisper in her ear. You hear a gruff voice come from within the house. "Who is it, Ginger?" You look up and see your parents walking towards the door. They pause for a second, looking at you. "Y/N, you came home." You burst into tears at your mum's words, and they race towards you and hug you. You look up at them, and then at Peter, and even he has a tear in his eyes.

"Oh my, come in, come in." You feel your mum grabbing your hand and pulling you into the house. Peter leans towards the door and Ginger beckons for him to follow. You look around at the walls, full of photos of Ginger, and a few of the both of you. You talk for feels like hours before noticing that Peter isn't in the living room. You excuse yourself to look for him and see Peter standing in the hallway. He steps aside to reveal a small cavern in the wall with a picture of you smiling and a few lit candles. You pick up the frame and bring it closer. You smile and nod. "I remember the day this was taken. It was the day I found out I was chosen. I was so excited that I started crying. I couldn't believe it. Mum and Dad took me and Ginger out for ice cream to celebrate and I got bubblegum, and mum even let me get sprinkles because of how special it was." You wipe a tear out of your eye and look at Peter. "Hey, can you wait by the car, there's something I have to do." Peter nods and walks out by the car and you go back to the living room.

A few minutes later you hug Ginger goodbye and walk out to the car, Peter leaning against the door. He looks around, taking in every detail of the small neighborhood. "What's so interesting?" You step towards him and he smiles. "I just didn't expect so many trees." You stop and look towards him. "Did you think Australia was all desert?" He hangs his head and nods while rubbing the back of his neck. You laugh as you get in the car. "So, when should we drop your stuff off here?" You look up at Peter. "Never." Peter furrows his brows and tilts his head. "Why? Your family is here." You look at him. "It's been six years. And sure, I've missed my family like crazy, nothing is the same anymore. So, I'll definitely visit, and there will defiantly be video chats, but I can't live here." You hang your head a bit and feel your cheeks going red. "And I kinda have a family, in New York." Peter feels his cheeks going a matching shade and hangs his head a little as well. "I like you as a part of the avengers family Y/N." You smile and hold his hand. "Me too."
