Charlotte's face stayed neutral, but as her eyes found Detective Adams, she shrugged and walked out. Anthony followed behind her, slouching but filled with remorse and Heather right on his tail, taking small steps out of the room.
As soon as they fled the doors, the sudden sounds of trickling could be heard from outside. drip , drip, drip. The rain dropped down from the sky, like the tears of the sky, falling upon the roof of the building. It was beautiful. Droplets stained across the windows, dripping down and down the windowsill. The trees tall, but leafless.
" Ugh! It's raining now, and my perfectly done hair will now be ruined!" screeched Charlotte.
Anthony looked towards her." Well, you can come over to my place? Heather is coming over as well" Charlotte gasped, her face etched with sarcasm. " Aww, yes I'd be delighted to come over to your house. Yes totally!" she giggled with delight at the sight of their faces.
Anthony glanced at Heather and looked back.
" HAH- DID YOU REALLY THINK I WANTED TO COME OVER. WELL HERE'S THE REAL ANSWER. NO. HELL NO. Do you really think I'd want to come over to YOUR place? EW- just fuck off. Please. Pretty pretty please, JUST GO AWAY! ". She stormed off inside the school, leaving a cloud of darkness raging behind her.
" Okay, suit yourself," Anthony replied as he walked outside. "That interview was a bit weird ain't it?"
" Yeah, well um- it was okay. I mean at least we can help uh- find what happened to Em?" Heather replied softly.
" Yeah I guess. But seriously, did you see Charlotte in there? She was such a bitch. She was gabbling along about her own personal life like she didn't even fucking care about her friend"
" uh- well yeah she is, but I guess there is a reason for it. Her best friend just died. I mean like it is um- pretty sad for her"
" Well she clearly ain't showing no feelings."
" But- uh- i mean"
" She's so heartless!"
" Maybe, um- that's her way of showing her sadness? Like she could bundle it all up in a ball and never tell anyone-"
" Stop thinking about the positive side of people, Heather," Anthony replied, rolling his eyes furiously. He continued to rage. " She's a heartless bitch and that's all she is. She isn't nice, nor kind, nor caring. SHE IS JUST HEARTLESS"
Before he got ready to open up his umbrella, he turned around to see that Heather had disappeared. Her bag was on the floor, her raincoat lay flat against the oaken chair. Oh crap. Where did she go? Don't tell me she went to comfort that bitch. He left the front of the school and went back inside. Next he trod down and up the hallways. The etched walls and the golden knobs of every door seemed to come off more eerie as beautiful.
" HEATHER! HEATHER! ARE YOU THERE?! HEATHER!"
A second or so later, he had already circled around all the classrooms. Except one.
He hurried up the flights of stairs, his body panting, sweat dripping down his face. Last room. If she isn't there, I should call her mum. There the room was. The dark room was like a place out of time, a place to rest without consequence. The darkness in that way was a sanctuary, a place to recharge and forget the things the world said had to be done. It was insane. Last time it opened was never. Until today. The door was slit open, the slightest gap of darkness filling the empty school halls. It was like Harry potter and the dementors. Dark creatures sucking the happiness out of the world. Except now, it was reality. It wasn't written in a book. It was right there.
The cobwebs that once draped on top were now on the floor. Sunken deep. Heather, please be alive. Please. And that's when he opened the door.
