TWO
Chapter Two
Bloodlust and broken bones
Elena and Mackenzie sprinted through the halls of Beacon High. The Gilbert cousins were both creeped out by what Lydia had said. Elena was starting to regret coming to Beacon Hills - but she had to get away from the supernatural. Lacrosse practice was starting, and Kenzie was intent on making the team. Her cousin, Elena, curled up on the bleachers, watching expectantly as Kenzie used her vamp speed to beat everyone at the laps around the field.
"Hey, Mystic Falls girl!" yelled a girl from behind Elena. The Gilbert swiftly turned around; Malia Tate and Rey Brooks faced her, smiling. Elena nodded.
"Yeah that's me," Elena confirmed, standing up to reside in the space next to Rey. Both girls grinned at her, before widening their eyes as Kenzie made accidentally broke somebody's arm with her super strength.
"Wow, your cousin is very strong..." Rey trailed off, her voice laced with suspicion. What if she found out Kenzie was a vampire? Elena quickly shook her head.
"She's just a very healthy and fit person, that's all," Elena lied, desperate to leave the bleachers, scared of slipping up. However, Rey kept pressing on, suspicious of the new girl and her family.
"So, how did she break that guy's arm? I'm a healthy and fit person - I can't do that."
"....Anger issues, it fuels her strength," The Gilbert told yet another lie. Rey wasn't convinced, but she nodded her head anyway. Elena glanced over at Kenzie, only to see her being...hugged by a fellow freshman? What was she doing? Mackenzie pulled out of the odd, friendly hug, and jogged to the back of the line. In front of her was the spastic Stiles Stilinski, who Elena had met earlier. He waved at Malia, furrowing his brows when he noticed Elena curled up next to the were-coyote.
The three girls watched as the team captain, Scott McCall failed to stop the freshman boy who had been hugging Kenzie before. Suddenly, Malia stood up, waving her hands around at the coach.
"That was luck! Do-over!" she shouted angrily. The coach laughed at her.
"Sweetheart, there are no do-overs in lacrosse," he informed her. She glowered at him, slightly confused.
"Ten bucks on Scott and Stiles!" she bargained, watching gleefully as the coach thought about it.
"I'll take that action! Get back in there, Liam!"
So, his name was Liam. Kenzie obviously must have taken a fancy to him, Elena decided in her head.

The Gilbert cousins traipsed over to the school cafeteria, grabbing their lunch. Elena sighed as Kenzie began to voice her worries about Liam Dunbar, the freshman boy who got knocked down by Scott McCall - whom Elena might add, was incredibly handsome.
"Let me just ask, why were you hugging him earlier?" Elena questioned, an unreadable look on her face.
"I talked to him, he said he had anger issues, and I promised I would help him since I've dealt with it before," Kenzie explained to Elena, wiping the strange expression off her face. The oldest Gilbert gasped as she watched a mouthless man cut his hand - blood oozing out of it. Elena blinked and he was gone, except the smell of blood was leading to the locker rooms.
"I'll be right back," Elena informed her cousin, hunger driving her mad. She needed to feed, and she could already feel the pain in her gums. I need blood, she thought desperately.
She entered the locker rooms; fangs elongating and veins protruding from her eyes. The man - if he was even human - stood before the Gilbert, humour dancing in his eyes. He typed something into a keyboard, which produced a loud, eerie voice.
"You know you can't resist my blood, Elena Gilbert. Come on, just take it," he said, holding his bleeding wrist out for her. With as much force as possible, Elena used her vamp speed to smash into someone's locker.
"No, no, no.." she muttered, pleading in her mind for her cousin to come pounding in. No such luck, the man merely tackled Elena and shoved his bloody wrist in her mouth. Instead of filling her with delight, the taste burned her mouth, causing her to scream. It was vervain. The same thing the man stabbed her with. She shouted and shrieked, however the man just smacked his hand on her mouth to shut her up.
"Elena?!" someone called, running over to the dying Gilbert. In an instant the man was gone: Carter Boyd and Malia Tate stood in his place.
"H-hey.." Elena whispered weakly. Malia used her were-coyote strength to lift Elena off the floor and carry her bridal style. Carter walked ahead, opening the entrance doors of Beacon High for Malia. Outside, Carter's black jeep took up a parking space.
"Get her in the car, we're going to Deaton's!" ordered Carter, starting up the engine. Malia swiftly placed Elena in the backseat, staring worriedly at the axe in the side of Elena's back.
"Shouldn't we get that out?" asked Malia, but Carter just ignored her and began to drive down to the vets.
Once they reached their destination, the two girls took the almost dead Elena into the vets. Deaton immediately ripped the axe out of Elena and force-fed her some medicine for vampires. Deaton knew she was a vampire - the vervain wouldn't affect anyone else. He wasn't sure if Elena wanted anyone to know or not, so he kept quiet; pretending the Gilbert was merely allergic to it.
Malia left to find the rest of the pack, however Carter stayed by Elena's side - reluctant to move. The Gilbert began to stir. Unfortunately, Carter's phone rang just as Elena woke up.
"Hello?"
"Carter, it's Stiles on Scott's phone. That freshman boy, Liam, got attacked and Scott had to give him the bite to save him,"
"Okay,"
"Where are you babe?"
"With Elena, you know, the new girl. She almost died because of some allergy she had to a thing called vervain. I'll be there soon, love ya Stilinski."
Carter ended the call and turned back to see....
Elena was gone.
